    I finished my audio upgrade in my MK7 GTE 2015. Here’s what i did: upgraded tweeter & front speakers by GroundZero composet. Added 2 JBL speakers in the rear parcel shelf. Added a JBL subwoofer in the trunk via a high to low converter to get a RCA signal. Isolated doors + panels + trunk with sound deadening stuff foam. Now it plays, sounds better then original. BUT here is the main problem: when i go over half volume, the amplifier of the sub kicks out completely. No power. When you turn the volume down it starts right back up. This might have something to do with the VCDS OBD11 coding as if the head unit thinks: “hey, i see something drawing too much signal power, i’m shutting it off for security” or something like that. I’m still investigating, but this helps a LOT. Thank you hero 😎 greetings from The Netherlands

    How would you go about running new components to an aftermarket amp. I'd rather not run new wires if I don't have to. is there an option to mount the aftermarket cross over under the dash and connect the stock wiring from tweeter and midrange then running a new wire back to the amp? Just not sure how I would go about running new wires through the door.

    • @sanfransimo
      @sanfransimo 5 лет назад

      He has a video where in he puts a 5 channel amp and a 10" sub into this very same car (link in the description of this vid). You should check it out, but spoiler: he uses the existing stock speaker wires/harnesses that run to the doors. Dude cuts the wires on the back on the head unit and runs cable to the amp and wire back to the head unit where he connects them back onto the existing harness.
      As for the crossovers, pretty sure the stock system uses integrated crossovers (in the speakers). The speakers he used as replacements here work the same way(the line going to the tweeters) so no issue.
      I actually have the same question about what he would have done if the crossovers weren't integrated. I imagine you'd want them wired in somewhere in between the head unit and the amp line in. Not sure though. speakers with integrated crossovers don't seem to be bothered by effectively having the crossovers wired into the amp line out.

    • @sanfransimo
      @sanfransimo 5 лет назад

      Re evaluating the crossover thing. Feel like the crossover would have be on the amp line out. Since it's a component speaker set (woofer + tweeter) running off one channel, there must be a split somewhere. It's just not clear, from this video, where that split is in the stock system. Being totally uniformed, right now I would lean towards putting the crossover in the door near the woofer, then run one line from the crossover to the woofer and the other back into the dash up to the tweeter in the A-pillar. Actually, I'd lean towards choosing an component set with integrated/inline crossovers (like the ones he uses here) and save the headache. I sure hope this guy sees these comments and sheds some light on this stuff.

    Hey, great video. Thanks. You mention the crossover next to the tweeter. Is that a factory crossover? What I want to understand is if the speaker signals running to the door and the pillar are full range and then hi/low passed at the speaker, or are the signals pre crossed at the head unit? If you wanted to just install coaxial 6.5 inchers in the door would it have a full range signal down there? Thanks in advance.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  6 лет назад

      Yes, a 6.5 coaxial in the door will yield a full-range signal. Crossovers are built onto the factory speakers themselves, not through the head unit.

I replaced both the tweeter and the door speaker with Rockford fosgate and now when I turn up the volume the passenger side of the car makes a "crackle" sound and basically cuts out. @@ProvoBeastAudio First all, thanks so much for an awesome video, and you obviously know your $hit. I have a GTI 2019 and it looks pretty much the same as what you are showing here. However, I have a pair of Focal 165AS and it comes with a crossover that is too large to put in the A column. So it sounds like I should do what you recommended above, which is to install the crossover in the door and run a new wire to the pillar just for the tweeter.
      Related to this: for the GTI, does the Volkswagen head unit have only one speaker pair for each front tweeter/mid pair (left and right), and the factory crossover is in the door or A pillar somewhere? I assume that I need to remove the factory crossover - where is it?
      Or (as another installer told me - and I don't think he is correct) that the crossover is built into the head unit so the front speakers have separate tweeter and mid pairs coming out from it going straight to the speakers, so there is no external crossover?

      All of the VW wiring diagrams, just say "in wiring harness." Good luck finding it. Unless you have the premium audio from VW with an external amp, the door and the tweeter are wired in parallel, so they both get a full range signal from the head unit. Each component should have some filtering on it. If you want to run one external crossover, you need to somehow run wires into the door through the oem door wiring connector.

    • @antonamalfi
      @antonamalfi 4 года назад +1

      umeng2002 I thought so, I ended up using the factor door wiring as an input to an external crossover and then just ran some fresh wires up to the tweeter leaving the factory tweeter wiring open. I’m not sure why but I’m getting some alternator noise coming through the system, even with the power to the factory unit in the glovebox being filtered. Running a small amp using the factory wiring as well but noise still persists after disconnecting amp which is weird as this would mean the noise is being induced into the wires…was thinking about putting some capacitors and bridging the open tweeter connectors perhaps?

    • @umeng2002
