    I'm not sure about anyone else but I really like how they turned out if it was me coming up with any ideas for those I would use them as table center piece like the dinning room table or put them on the end tables by the couch. In the end anyone can still have some uses for them no matter if they are failed projects or successful projects.

  • @roguewolf7053
    @roguewolf7053 2 года назад

    I really like it when artists & craft makers show their failed projects AND explain WHY they failed. It helps the rest of us artists/crafters to not feel so bad about themselves when we mess up. And by explaining what went wrong &/or what mistakes were made it allows MANY to hopefully learn from one person’s mistake vs all of us having to discover it on our own. But it DOES take a LOT of courage for anyone to put their failures/screw ups on public display! So BRAVO to you for being so courageous & for caring enough to explain the reasons any issues occurred thus helping your viewers avoid ANY mistakes &/or failures you experience❤️ The arts & craft community..as well as the world as a whole.. *need MORE people like YOU!!*💜❤️💜
    **FYI…when I say artists who show their “failures” I’m talking about pieces like these where most people would agree that while something totally new & different *might* be salvageable from different parts of the piece(s)…the execution of the original idea was a complete failure with no real way to rework the existing piece(s) to make it work in anyway close to as was originally intended. *NOT* when artists make a piece which works/functions/turns out as originally intended & to most people looks amazing but which the artist claims is a “failure” simply bc they don’t like some minor aspect or it just doesn’t perfectly match the idea they have it their head. **
    Just wanted to be clear

    I've only been a subscriber for a short while and haven't seen all of your videos. As such, I apologize if you've already tried this or commented on it. Have you ever considered casting something in resin, turning it to finished quality and then casting it again in another shape? Perhaps like an hour glass inside of a sphere or something along those lines. If this hadn't crossed your mind, I hope it sparks some inspiration. Cheers!

Thank you from the bottom, and top, of my heart. The one lessen I appreciate the most is, don’t give up on any project. Those could be bookends. I must admit this is one of the big reasons I prefer my textile crafts, generally it's easier to fix a wide variety of mistakes with yarn and fabrics. But of course you can make some really amazing things with wood + resin that are completely unique to their medium. I really appreciate your deconstructing and explaining your errors step by step; it's both a brave step on your part as a maker and an excellent teachable moment for us as viewers.

      Ethan Cox use a chisel or a drill and dig out the wire... then add a thicker wire on and something to protect the wire then fill the little hole with resin again. If you don't like the shape then change it.... DON'T GIVE UP JUST YET, it can still be awsome. Upload a video on the fixing up. The main point is the lights and wires are still in there snd CAN work.

    First of all, even the projects you think are “failures” are cool as heck. Secondly, to steal a line from the movie National Treasure, “You know, Thomas Edison tried and failed nearly 2,000 times to develop the carbonized cotton-thread filament for the incandescent light bulb. And when asked about it, he said "I didn't fail; I found out 2,000 ways how not to make a light bulb," but he only needed one way to make it work.” The next time you’ll do it differently and maybe it will work. I’ll anxiously await your next post....you are in my top 3 RUclips subscriptions. One day I’m going to come to the U.K. and I hope to have a cup of coffee with you.....

    Really cool looking paperweights! Would it work if you bored a 1 1/2 to 2 inch hole from bottom to 2/3s of the way up and then mount an electric light in it. The problem with the lights you were using i think was that they weren't bright enough, something with higher lumens (hey i am getting techy) may give more of the desired effect you were looking for. Very interesting video.

  • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
    @GrandadIsAnOldMan 6 лет назад +5

    Too late now but drill bigger hole in the bottom wide enough to hold the whole battery box instead of taking the wires out the side. You could feed the string of LEDs up through from the bottom and temporary seal the battery box inside with modelling clay or disconnect and reconnect later. Another tiny point, if you didn't know, LEDs only light with the battery connected the right way round so when you cut them and reconnect them you need to do it the right way round. If it doesn't work one way, try the other way. Love the idea, could have been great.

    "No mistakes, just Happy Accidents", Bob Ross.
    Thanks for sharing even though it didn't turn out as planned. I've been watching your channel for 5 months now, thanks for all the inspiration. You, Heath Knuckles, Carl Jacobson & Zac Higgins have been my shop class teachers. Because of you guys my friends say, "You made this?" And after my "yeah" they say, "YOU made this???" So thanks for making me a better artist/woodworker! But my wife says you are the reason we have 10 colored pencil wine stoppers! ; )

    This is why I love your vids Nick because you admit your mistakes so we can all learn from them great vid it’s a shame they didn’t work but we live and learn xx

    It takes a humble man to admit and then show/discuss his mistakes. I will learn from your mistakes and mine too.

    I think showing your mistakes and success is just as important as the ones you love. I saw you have some little watchers from the note you read the other day. It shows that even master woodworkers ideas sometimes don’t always come to be what they thought they would and with the influx of subs it’s perfect to see.

    I like that you post your failures. We all have them as hobbyists so it's life and nice that you share those too.

    What you consider a fail is a learning tool for others, especially those on a budget that cant afford to lose a large quantity of resin. Making it a successful and useful project.

    I’m one of those new subs and I honestly love the fact you’re posting your fail! Everyone is human, and on social media where everyone seems so perfect, it’s a nice reminder that we are all just stumbling through, trying to get better!

    Thank you for showing us this Nick! Life isn’t always success and how we want it to be nor is making things! Thank you for staying so positive and not letting it stop you!
    I see how you wanted it to be and it would have been super wicked! No worries though! WAFFLE ON!!!!

    First, thank you for sharing your fails! It makes those of us who are creating art of every variety feel like that box/closet we ALL have is much more than normal and is not a sign that we should stop now, just back away! LOL
    I work with a lot of resin and what I do requires a lot of colors. To get a slightly blended look I let the resin for each color set up about 1/2 way. To get sections of color Iet each color set up completely. If you pour them all at the same time you are going to get, well, what you did.
    I have been a subscriber for a long time and although I do not have a lathe or do woodworking, you do give me a lot of inspiration and encouragement. This fail only makes me like you all the more!

    Drilling a hole from the bottom, run string lights up, cut the bottom wire and feed it outside the mold, pour resin, shape like a vase but with a rounded top filled with the string lights, reconnect the wire on the bottom, add a base and switch... Win. You were totally on the right track idea wise.

    There is no such thing as failure, only opportunity for learning, and then success from that. I see an opportunity to make a lot of blanks for turning rings, spehere, and pendants. :D

    This is not just a woodturning channel to me.
    This is Nick! doing some projects, woodturning and waffeling included. 👌😎
    And with trying out to make something...out of something and being in uncharted waters, always a failure comes along.
    Sometimes the failure isn't that bad or maybe genius. And sometimes the failure is just nothing.
    I like to sew and I like to tinker, often it's a mixture of both. I can spend hours on a project and finally ...toss it.
    Showing this side of your work on projects makes me loving this channel even more. I would subscribe immediately, but I have allready. 😉😂🤣😎
