    Superb flight and video Emi, I'm not sure anyone would want to venture out in those awful conditions IRL, but that's the beauty of FS. I was using the PMS 50 GTN until the Pro upgrade shipped which was the trigger for getting the TDS GTNXi instead. Worldwide Navigraph chart and database support was what I was waiting for. Its a game changer.
    Looking at those gorgeous graphics reminded me to dig out a few screen grabs I took in FS2000. Looking at those , I don't think anyone could have guessed how such a beautiful 3D world would ever be possible in a home flight simulator. Back then, there was no trees, no roads, rivers, or powerlines, no accurate coastlines. No water, just a blue mottled texture. Only major cities had buildings, no houses. Clouds were just 2D billboards floating in the sky. No weather or poor visibility, yet the sim stuttered terribly in a turn. Why did I love it so much ? I've stuck with it ever since. To make FS look half decent costed an arm and a leg in addons, but now MSFS2020 is beyond your wildest dreams straight out of the box. The very fact that a professional pilot such as yourself can admire it is the greatest praise you could ever bestow on a product such as this, yet people still moan about it. Nothing stranger than folk. Keep the videos coming, they are superb. The Chancellor is a gem of an airplane. The attention lavished on it is visible wherever you care to look. Aren't we thoroughly spoilt ? I must admit, VATSIM scares me a bit. I'm really waiting for Beyond ATC to hit the deck.

      They're perfectly fine IFR conditions, nothing wrong with flying in them. Probably not for the PPL guy trying to show the hood to their friends, but for an IFR rated pilot no problem.

      @@A330Driver Totally agree fine IFR conditions, but getting soaked on the way out to the plane is not too great. Neither is the walk around, bur if you've got to fly because you have a job to do, so be it. I'd look out at the weather and wish someone else was piloting today instead. Very, very realistic looking wet weather.

      If there was any actual limitation in place, like the controller in whose airspace I'd have to fly is already overloaded and has too many aircraft, then I could totally understand why the flight could not be accepted. A slot would then have been the correct solution. The problem here however was simply that there is a VATSIM internal agreement not to let planes between Hamburg and Hannover higher than FL100. Well, if there's icing conditions below that level they have to adapt. Most VATSIM ATCs will agree by now that if somebody requests a vector off a standard route they will get it. Likewise if somebody needs an altitude off the standard they should try to accomodate as well. It's still a weather deviation.
      I still remember however when we got the first weather radar in FSX back with Active Sky Next and PMDGs 777 cockpit integration. All of the sudden VATSIM ATCs got a lot of "request heading xxx to avoid", and it was a complete mess as they had no idea of how to handle that.

    There’s a major update coming to plane shortly with walk around like the A2A etc plus some other stuff. Thx for flight it’s a nice plane for sure that’s going to be even better with the update coming. the tds pro update been really great with what I’ve managed to try as been busy with the fenix B2. so many fsim updates too much to keep up with. For sure a golden era in the sim world and 2024 to look forward to as well

    That situation after inflating the WAI boots is pretty realistic. If you inflate the boots you think it should be clear of ice but that's not always the case especially when there is only a little bit of ice or more of the rime ice on the leading edge - if you inflate the boots to soon the iceforming is to little to actually break the form and have the ice not adhere to the boot anymore. So in fact it's better to have a larger chunk of ice build up on your leading edge wing and THEN inflate the boot to brake and shear of the ice then to do it too soon to often.

    I'd appreciate a bit more exploration into the capabilities of this updated gtnxi to be honest, your eye for detail in these matters is very useful. Perhaps a comparison between the new functionality of this one and the pms one and if you could explain why those features would be useful or not and a personal recommendation we'd all appreciate it.
    It'd make for a pretty hot topic video right now too

    It's interesting that the TDS GTN does not communicate with the other unit. I noticed this with another video which used the 750 with the 650. I have the PMS5 premium version and they communicate so if the flight plan is made in one, it's shows up in the other. Otherwise, it's looks to be an excellent product.

    Although I really like your contribution to the flightsim community, I think you should hold your horses sometimes. I get it, the Vatsim controllers can be annoying at some times but c'mon, the guy is (unlike you) not a professional, he probably even is a kid based on his voice and just does his best and still has a learning curve to go through. So speaking to him like this "totally unbelievable, I'm filing something.." etc... well, it's a bit hyperbolic IMHO. But anyway, continue the good content, just ease up a bit ;-)

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 месяца назад

      What's your opinion for what I should have done? I went through the "escalation" chain slowly, first telling him that I'm unable to accept the lower level and why (due to forecast icing condition), he just blindly repeated that I can't get a higher level though. I tried a few more times just explaining him why I need a higher level, but he refused all the time. Eventually there were no more options left. And now look and see: Turned out there was no problem coordinating the higher level in the end. He could just have told me to standby as he was coordinating, but instead he continually told me down.
      The way this would have gone in the real world is that when I filed the flightplan I would have gotten a call from ATC inquiring about the reason for the high level and they would have tried to accomodate it then. It would probably have resulted in a slot, which might have either been on time or not, depending on how much the controller in the higher airspace would have to do.
      Since that option doesn't exist on VATSIM it should have gone about this way:
      After I initially told him I can't accept his amanded lower clearance and why he should have told me to standby while he coordinated with the higher ATC units if it's possible to accept me at a higher FL than their usual limitation. That might have taken a little while, but no problem, that's life. Eventually after coordinating he should have come back to me and told me if it's either possible or not, or if it might only be possible at a later time if the higher sector is currently to busy. Due to the short timeframe involved however it's rather obvious that he didn't even try, but rather just tried to argue me down. That became even more obvious when we got to the point of entering the higher level airspace (above FL100) later and the controller did not really have much to do.

      It's the tone that I find a bit disturbing. You get irritated quite fast, that's what I meant being hyperbolic. That's all. Not the fist time I hear this in one of your videos. It's a hobby after all. But then again, it's just my opinion.@@A330Driver

      @@gopherch2754to be fair. In future if someone not as confident makes the same request it will likely be granted now. Some controllers do think they dictate rather than assist pilots in achieving their flight, especially if not a standard request in a GA.

    For the people that used both any huge differences in between PMS50 which I already bought and the TDS GTNxi Pro?

    • @gopherch2754
      @gopherch2754 2 месяца назад +1

      I use both in the premier and Pro version. I use it for RL training so the TDS is as close as it get's since it's basically the Garmin trainer. The Navigraph integration was that little puzzle piece that was needed. So now I'm more often using the TDS. The PMS has a few quality of life things that don't exist in the real world - like showing and selecting active Vatsim frequencies and such. Honestly, if you already own the PMS and don't give much to have some features of the XI variant, it's definitely good enough for the most part if not even better in some aspects of flight simming. For me having both gives me options like when the SWS PC12 came out, it worked better with the PMS (at least in the beginning, didn't test it lately). So yeah, it's a personal decision if it's worth for you.

    must be a lot of traffic at fl170 too busy to accomodate

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 месяца назад

      Nope, no traffic at all. Simply a standard agreement between VATSIM controllers that flights between Hamburg and Hannover and not to be let above FL100. The background is probably that the approach controllers airspace goes until FL100 and above that there's another controllers airspace. So when I asked for a higher level what the delivery controller had to do is to ask the higher level ATC if he could accept my flight. Might take a few minutes, but outright denying the clearance until I tell him I'm going to complain to the chief of his regional group... let's put it that way: Was unnecessary.

  • @whiffy506
    @whiffy506 2 месяца назад

    ...bro why did they push so much to keep you flying low? Weird flex on their end

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 месяца назад

      Because it's VATSIM and one of the weaknesses of that network is that they are very bad at deviating from "their norms". They have their standard arrangements and one of them is that aircraft flying between Hamburg and Hannover and probably not allowed to fly higher than FL100. A typical VATSIM attitude is that controllers always know things better than pilots. Which in many cases is somewhat true as controllers at least go through some sort of training while everyone can fly as a pilot. But that's where the problem comes up: If a pilot actually knows what they're doing, like requesting a higher than VATSIM-standard flight level due to weather conditions below, then controllers might still be like "no, I won't give you that". Likewise immediately amanding the flightplan. His very first sentence to me was "I amanded your cruise level". No, how about he first ASKS about it? Because there might be a reason behind it? But that's probably to much for most VATSIM ATCs.
