As an aspiring neuroscientist (computational) with no background in natural sciences or psychology, your videos are inspiring and helping me solidify my decision to quit my software job and move into research in neuroscience. I may be making the field impure by bringing deep learning, ML and AI into studying the brain, but I guess times change and I could do something with my skill sets. As someone who is actively reading research papers and attending courses in medical neuroscience, seeing you break down topics in neuroscience is helping me understand research papers better. Thanks a lot and keep producing quality content like this. Your channel will definitely enjoy massive exposure sooner than later. Keep inspiring❤️

I suffer with imposter syndrome. I set very high bars for myself with extreme results. Because I fall short of my own goals, I feel like I've failed. It doesn't matter how well others do, I always feel like my results are pitiful.
And yet... I have just been accepted into a Neuro MSc at a VERY prestigious University, known for taking only the elite brainiacs.
I even thought it was a Nigerian scam when I received my unconditional letter! I called the University to verify my student number 🤣

Thank you for this video! It's always good to know others feel this too. I will really try to put these suggestions into practice! I'm a first year (soon to be second year) PhD student and I have felt like an absolute fraud this whole time. Due to many factors which have been completely out of my control (although my brain insists I could have done something to prevent or lessen the effect of these factors), I will be starting my second year with no results. The fact that I'm the youngest in my lab (and quite possibly in my department/institute) really doesn't help. I was never an anxious or insecure person about my abilities, but now I feel like the most incompetent person on earth everytime I make a stupid mistake :/ I've tried to think about the PhD as just a job, but that is way easier said than done

I am sorry you have been going through it! It can be so hard. I only have data in my thesis from 6 months in and got most of it during my second year. Every project is different and examiners recognise that. Keep doing little things every day and you will get there!

Thank you for this video!! I just started my PhD at Oxford, and although it is easy to compare myself with all the great people that I'm surrounded by and feel intimidated by them, I will rather try to be inspired and appreciate the opportunity to be able to learn from them.
I will definitely keep your tips in the back of my mind the next years!! Especially the one about challenging myself 😌

I’m sorry but I’m literally so obsessed with you! I’m considering doing a PhD in neuroscience/neuropsychology next year and you’ve really inspired me! I’ve been so scared because I don’t think I’m smart enough and being a woman in stem can be quite scary, especially in male-dominated areas of psychology like the more neuro side! I wish I knew you in real life because you seem so cool and fun and make studying science seem less “lame”! I’ve also been really worried about doing a PhD because all of my other friends are starting to get real full-time jobs and by the time I finish a PhD I’ll be around 27-28 and that scares me 😭 I hate this, I’m too indecisive hahah but I’m going to continue watching your videos to keep me inspired

Ahhh too kind! Thank you! You are so smart enough and can do it. I have just turned 28 and I am still not finished so do not let age stop you!

Thank you so much! I actually didn't watch anyone before my PhD - I was oblivious to the world of science communication! I had some people I knew in person who were doing them. If you head to my instagram and go on who I follow, there are so many amazing sci-commers/PhD students on there!
