Here in New York City trying to learn how to repair my violin, because I can't afford a repair. I give this video a thumbs up. thank you for making this video.
The footage of the restoration is very informative and therapeutic. Bravo
I really enjoyed watching this video. I inherited an old Hopf violin. When we got it, it had come apart and there was quite a bit of damage to it. A luthier in Salt Lake City did a marvelous job of repairing the violin. That was back in the 1960s. Now my granddaughter is playing the instrument. It is lovely.

My friend has an old HOPF violin that she has asked me to restore. I am no where near qualified to attempt to take on such a task. Thank you for your video to confirm that. But I did learn a lot. You do beautiful work.
I just bought a DAVid HOPF $200, smell like 200yo as supposed just needs new strings and soundpost set which I just received in the mail I can get whole ebony sets really cheap and do external repairs then give the instruments away. Except the two antique ones
The whole time I was wondering if the top could possibly sound the same with all the added glue and braces, but she sounds awesome!!!
I really enjoyed both parts of this restoration process and what a beautiful instrument 😍
I watched both videos and you did a wonderful job. I wonder if a luthier signed his work when he repaired a crack in mine a few years back. You made what you did look so easy as if anyone can do it..kudos to your talent. what a beautiful violin
I'm doing an old Karl Knilling right now a couple cracks, but I got it for $63.00 👀😳
I enjoyed your video very much. I know I am five years late, However; one thing looks like a problem with this repair. The fit on the tail saddle is too good. Leaving the fit that tight will cause the top to crack if it is not stored in a perfectly humidity controlled room. In the winter as the air gets dryer, the top shrinks sideways and the tail saddle has opposite grain, so it doesn't shrink as much and wala, cracks on one or both sides of the top saddle that was just replaced. I know, because this happened to my 200 year old Czechoslovakian built Strad copy violin. The cure was to leave the ends of the tail saddle a few thousands of an inch short which allowed the top to shrink without cracking. I would hate to see this fine old instrument crack again in the same place. I build string instruments rather than repair them, but love to learn new techniques from watching these repair videos.
Beautiful work. Thank you for posting!
A wonderful resurrection of a classic instrument! And your ebay listings cause me to travel away in a dreamland...❤
Glad you enjoy it!
Beautiful workmanship, superb. The art of making something look easy :) Also a fine use of wine corks and a great selection of shirts......
What a beautiful voice that violin has! Thanks for sharing it has been very entertaining and very educational. The art of Mr. Irps is excellent as a restorer or rather a savior of such instrument. Let me add that the camera shots and the quality of the filming was great. Congratulation to all, I'm looking for the next presentation. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
increible la forma que lo reparaste. excelente trabajo.
Great sounding instrument!
The clamps are works of art themselves!
Wonderful work !!
I need see more yours vídeo.
I am making violin but I don't luthier's course. Today you was my teacher. Thank you for the posted.

Brilliant clamps
Wonderfull sound....great work ...👏👏👏👏
Arte pura!
I enjoyed watching this wonderful craftsman at work. The chatter in the background was distracting though.
Bravo my friend nice piece 🌹 🌹
Thank you for sharing your mastery
Thank you for the videos.
Bravo! ❤
Nice job
Really good job.
Bravo!
Absolutely stunning work the craftsmanship you and your organization instilled in this instrument is unbelievable. If I may ask what do you use to clean instrument with?
Very interesting. Thanks .
Very very nice.
It was a quite informative video. What I do not understand though, is why was the ebony not fitted first, then glued in place: shaped to blend to the body of the violin with some sort of power tools grinding wheels, then a small die grinder with fine stone and burr bits, then finished with die-makers files. Some of these files are so very fine, that they are used to burnish only. It seems to me the risk of damaging a very expensive, if not priceless stringed instrument, increases exponentially fitting ebony the way you show.
Great tutorial :) how did you remove the neck?
If you will make your small square wooden patches a small pyramid they will be stronger. And leave the point on them!
I truly enjoy watching your quality work. Have you thought of making your own violins?
amazing
I bought a violin; inside tag "Germany", the only tag on it, and decided to do a complete rebuild by taking it to bare wood. In order to do most of the uneven sanding necessary, I filled a small balloon with fine sand. I didn't mention that this is my first time with a violin, and if it had a builder's name, I would not take it down completelt.
It's like Werner Herzog narrating luthierie and i'm very much into this.

19:09 What Brand of Strings are these & what model?
excellent
Amazing. 🤝
Thanks ✌️
Bravo magnificent
cool really good method for soundpost setting works better for me this way.
Reminds me of Trigger's broom from "Only Fools and Horses" if you get my drift.
what is the name of that black wood that you used under the violin arm?
How was the arm dismantled and installed
Do violins really need a bead on the top and bottom panels? If so, is that to hold the chin piece or purely aesthetic?
super !!!
And whoever gave this video a thumbs down I give them a thumbs down a good video thank you I really appreciate it
Keep those Band-Aids handy...
Minuto 19 52 só Brasileiro vai entender o que foi falado no fundo.
Use your file in one direction only. A file cuts as you push it away.
I guess the violin is sold by now?!
Great work, thank you for sharing! How many hours of work was it altogether?
We didm't count the time.
The violin is still available ...
Not Enough,I'm Afraid..
Why the Ebony piece at the base of the neck?
ola qntos seria o valor pra trocar o braço do violino 4/4 apenas o braço
Perfectly repaired violin you are an artist
It needs a sound post patch
I thought the soundpost ends had to b cut at an angle to match the curve of the sound board??? new one on me.
SHADOWMAN296 thought the same
It looked to me like he sawed it at a slight angle.

goooooooooood& great
When you say, animal glue, is there a preference? I heard of a violin maker here in California that uses Rabbit glue on his violins...I never heard of it, have you? I've always assumed it was either cow or horse.
FUNNY i thought it was made from whale, but maybe not now it might be made of cat now, sounds like i can here it still meowing ..jeff..
Hide glue can come from different animals. It's very common.
Those hands hold the secrets to a dying art which may be lost to us forever.
* eye roll *
Never, there Are Over 1 Million People Who Do This.
U should go to cremona. It is a growing art
разве это правильно,устанавливать душку в коробку,на которой уже струны давят на подставку? при замене струн она просто вылетит....а тк вроде мастер нормальный.
Bady bay

At 19:53 something sounds a little x rated Lol, take a close listen for a few seconds.
Had the same thought :)
Kyla M. luthier needs to occupy himself somehow in the lonely many hours of caressing an old stringed instrument
With tramp stamp authentic? Masters never stamped their violins for what I know. Video is fine otherwise.
I wasn't talking about repair label but a stamp on the back of the violin tho...
Great detail. Loved watching but not listening to screaming children in the background. You need to make a quieter recording. I'd love to know how much these violins cost. I need a new one. Mine sounds tinny. I'll go check eBay.
Great Video and loved the sound of the children in the background.
I thought the background sounds added a lot of life.
Somebody tell this fella that pull saw only cuts on the pull.
