    great example of the craft, and tutorial, the apprentice was a tade heavy handed but that's to be expected. none the less she did a great job also. thanks for taking the time to share. ECF.

    I always thought that it was the violins' memories that I was hearing in the background sound of your shop. I think that violins dream of people while they sleep, just as, similarly and conversely, I dream of violins while I sleep.. After a serious repair, a violin would spend some time sleeping, and dreaming, and remembering ..... and wishing. Thank you again for all the lovely videos and for this particularly lovely video.

    Surely you need to clean the surface before glueing on the cleats, glue does not stick very well to dirt and dust. Very light sanding with fine sandpaper or wiping with alcohol would create a clean surface for glueing.

    The peaking down of the cleats and sandpapering looked rather heavy handed. Having watched other you tube violin repairs, everything looked rather heavy handed.

    Does it make a difference acoustically how the wood ties are oriented?

    You did an amazing job and there's a great violin player at the end of the video, I don't know if you are him. Do you have any videos showing how you mount the sound post?

    You speak Portuguese, I surmise from the video. But your accent sounds German or Dutch to me. Is Portuguese your native language?
    Just curious. I really enjoy these videos!!

    Why the patches twisted?

    • @SuperAlfaDogg
      @SuperAlfaDogg 5 лет назад

      My educated (?) guess as a woodworker is that the grain orientation of the patch is not parallel with the grain of the wood which would probably lessen the likelihood of splitting. And placing the patch perpendicular to the wood grain would cause a conflict of wood expansion and contraction in opposite directions. Just a guess on my part but have seen the same technique used in another video. I'm pretty good as a cabinetmaker/millworks guy but nowhere in the league of actual violin makers.

    • @ellisc.foleyjr9778
      @ellisc.foleyjr9778 Год назад

      @@SuperAlfaDogg I agree on the grain orientation, and it allows more glueing surface along the desired length. (example a 1inch patch would have a 1 1/4 inch length along the gluing direction of desire vs i inch. ECF
