She is perhaps an apprentice but my complement to her craftswoman-ship came from watching the way she handled herself. The way she moved. I am a 43 years working manual machinist/toolmaker & it is so easy to spot skilled movements...some of the women I have worked with had far more thoughtful dexterity/manipulation than "skilled" fellows who had to overly muscle the delicate work. I thought that any asking on her part was just politeness or shop politeness. My impression was very positive of her work...Jeff

Ah sim, a menina esta de parabens!!!! Isto fica no Brasil?! toda a gente fala brasileiro! Pensava que era dificil encontrar ferramentas para as reparacoes, deve ser tudo da Europa, suponho...

At first it looked a little crude (not knowing any other way to take a violin apart). But as I watched there is definitely skill involved!! Thank you for sharing this:)

Do the cleats dampen the tone of the top. I know its a common practice but it seems they would effect tone some.
Thanks for the videos .I have learned a lot of tricks of the trade that i would have never thought of on my own.

What is the mold solution mixture?

Is the procedure to cut down the cleats after installation to reduce the mass of the top plate, or is it just for aesthetics?

I am slowly catching up on all your violin repair videos, and they are wonderful. Please tell me you have at least from this point purchased and used a tripod? This looks like a mix between This Old House and Blair Witch Project :) Still loving what I am seeing

i am also a restorer. What polish did you use please? Also, I know a good way of taking off an old fingerboard. Hairdryers are the best invention as that is what I use with an old bone handled biggish butter knife. Just done one now. It took 7 minutes. Thank God the person who glued it used animal glue!!! I wish I had filmed it but I am on my own here. Please adopt me! I am useful and fast worker too. I hate taking the tops off violins though. I made mistakes when learning. I glue the top first outside with hottish animal glue and wrap with string the cracks, leave it for a few days to completely dry, then that old knife with hot water, v careful at corners, especially blocked violins. Rusty nails are a bloody nightmare! anyway, well done, a clean top taken off there luv!!! How to get those iron nails out please? any tips? Thank you x

@gina walker Hide glue is, for good reason, traditional. However, a modern adhesive can be satisfactory. Like hide glue, the bond must be breakable by the modest application of heat and, possibly, moisture. Epoxy, CA, and "waterproof" wood glue will not do. Original "TiteBond" seems to be OK and is used, with apparent success, by primarily fretted instrument luthier Jerry Rosa.
