    I have a big question. Will French Polishes/Shellac retouch Varnish Will works over an oil varnished violin? If it doesn't, how do you Polish/retouches an oil varnished violin? What's the difference between an oil varnished violin and a spirit varnished violin?

  • @davidkiholm4368
    @davidkiholm4368 3 года назад

    Question. Why do you choose to raise the height of the neck and finger board with a raised shim instead of making a thicker fingerboard to correct the angle. Was the neck sunk or warped? Or is it just old, and bad angle or fingerboard to begin with.

    what are rubbing down that violin with? alcohol?

    • @MCGR
      @MCGR 4 года назад

      I think its oil, its making it shine better so that's what I would assume

    • @glendonjones
      @glendonjones 3 года назад +2

      Its probably alcohol. That's what is usually used for deep cleaning a violin. It dissolves built up rosin and renews the surface of the varnish. It should be done only by an expert though because it can also remove the varnish itself. Don't ask how I know.

    • @andyrenshaw9148
      @andyrenshaw9148 3 года назад

      @@glendonjones most likely clean water, thats enough to get most gunge off. Alcohol would just strip the varnish off in a second.

    First, the corner is not well and correctly shaped. Second, never insert a wood piece between ring board and neck. This is ugly. Should a standard way to it. Third, the fingerboard might be tilted if it is glued in the way shown in this video. Overall this repair is not professional. It is bad.
