- Part two of the VoiceLive Play video manual with soulful singer/songwriter Georgia Murray and TC-Helicon's Craig Fraser going through all of Play's core features and applications.
I don't always watch vocal fx manuals, but when I do, there's a fire... starting in my heart...
LMFAO
hahahaha
I love her, and she is a really good singer. Well played, TC Helicon.
You guys did an amazing job demoing this effect processor....AND FINALLY there is a video of an actual real great sounding singer!!!!! Awesome..Thanks guys.
She is absolutely gorgeous AND very talented. She caught my attention which made me watch the video.
i dont ever want to hear " theres a fire " ever again .... but great pedal
DYING! HAHAAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.
I was thinking the same thing! 😂
He said little about opening voices ! It is the most requested feature. As always have the right voices for an entire song.
In Brazil!
Thank you SO MUCH for showing how we can lower the Octave Up feature. Others I've watched on youtube have not played with this feature much. I will definitely be buying! Searched the internet for days, trying to find the right voice processor. This one has the features I need.
Man she is having too much fun huh... Lol I just love it!
Well made video with clear directions, Craig. It goes a little quickly sometimes, but not too bad. Only one suggestion: maybe next time we can have a fuller repertoire ready for this most excellent and charismatic singer... (I was rather rolling off the deep end of sanity hearing that line over and over.) Thanks for bringing more understanding about my machine.
Hi ilogikus,
If you're using set key/scale on the Play there are 3 major and 3 minor scales you can choose from, each with variations on the output harmony notes, based on the lead note and chord combination.
I can't link here, but if you google "TC-Helicon Scale Chart" you'll find a little document outlining how the different scales are implemented.
TC HELICON how do you turn it on
Hi! Does this have a tone button or tone effect like the Perform V and other TC-Helicon products so that my voice can be compressed and EQ'd? The effects offered in this unit interest me but I am also looking at the TC Helicon Perform V. I like the idea of the perform V because it has a tone button which seems give you a nice crisp studio sound and a separate talk button (I rap so I want to easily be able to perform with no effects from time to time). Also outside of a bit of auto tune, all I really need is reverb and delay or double, another reason why the perform V interests me since I think I will have all my bases covered there.
I am a hip-hop artist doing many lives shows and the biggest point of feedback that I have received is that my vocals sound dry. I don't have the luxury of having an engineer setting up my sound so I want to come to my shows with this already figured out which is why I am interested in this product.
How to setup more than one effects, say for example, if i want to have harmony and double voices at 2 different places, how to use it with the hit button without them effects coming together?
Question: Is there a place to save a preset without writing over one? Other than that bit of confusion on my part, I must say that this box is definitely the most user-friendly piece of electronic audio hardware I've played with in a very long time. Very nicely done, folks.
+TheRealJimmyRoberts1 You can save to "empty" slots. When you press STORE the first time, you can change the name of the preset, but there's also a small "Store to" number that lets you store that preset to a different location. If you choose a number of a preset that currently doesn't show in the box, it'll store there and then you will be able to navigate to that preset number.
Hopefully that makes sense in practice. It's a bit odd to try and explain in text. :)
Question if I move rolling in the deep to 1 will the preset that was on one be deleted?
Thank you for a great video. Can you please make a short video demonstrating AutoTune and its capabilities? How do you control AutoTune? Any presets for rock vocals like AC/DC or Kiss?
Hi Yonathan,
Yep, you can press 2 of the footswitches (UP+HIT) to enter tap tempo mode and fire your tempo in via the HIT button.
Check to see if you have any tranduscers on in the presets as they could create feedback!
I'm thinking about getting one of these. I love her voice plus she's beautiful too.
Hello TC Helicon,
I saw in one of your videos that, on the VoiceLive touch, you can choose different type of scales for your harmonies. For example, when setting up your VoiceLive touch to generate 3rd harmonies on a C major scale, when singing a G (the 5th), the generated note can be Bb (7th), B (Maj 7th), or C (the 8va).
Is it possible to tweak a "Voicelive play" in the same way? or is it a specificity of the "Voicelive Touch"?
Hello. Why there are no advanced settings for Hard tune Natural and Chromatic. Level and Speed setting would be perfect to make it work great.
Falou pouco sobre como abrir vozes! É a função mais solicitada. Como ter as vozes sempre certas durante uma canção inteira.
Hi Chris, thanks for the advice. There's actually a lot of heavy singers using TC-Helicon gear: Troy Sanders (Mastodon), John Garcia (Kuyss), Bring Me The Horizon, Joey Belladonna (Anthrax), and more. For the videos we work with local artists that can both present and sing, but we'll keep your request in mind.
It would be nice if you focused some on rock n metal singers. You always have pop vocalists singing . I'm sure this would be nice for us metal singers but an example for a change would be great. So we can see how pushing hard aggressive vocals thru this sound.
just got this...its awesome!
I cannot enter the deep/advanced menues, like shown at 8:35. I tried the same effect and it doesn‘t work. Firmware is 1.5.00
is this also works well for wireless microphone like Shure Beta 58A? Because I always see all demo they are just using microphone with cable.
I know it’s been a few years, but I’m considering purchasing one these.
Is there anything for feedback control?
I'm thinking of buying this pedal - do you offer one to one lessons via zoom at all if I was to buy it? Thank you
You talked about the natural pitch correction and showed it but skipped right past demonstrating it. Thats the one I was most interested in hearing.
It's pretty transparent so it doesn't make for a super obvious demo. It's the intent of the correction, which is perhaps why they skipped the example. Or they just forgot ;)
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING
i find this super interesting!! thank you a lot!!
Posting again as I'm about to buy in the next hours :)
Hey, does the doubler effect on the voicelive play sound as nice as the D1 pedal or is it the same ..... I'm wondering whether to buy this or the D1 pedal.. I want it for recording at home mainly so can I also plug this into my audio interface quite easily. Thanks
***** For straight up doubling, I'd use a VST plugin instead of an external hardware device. There's a ton of them out there. The best doubling is to actually sing the part a second time on a different track :) I'm not trying to talk you out of a sale, but in your case, it seems like you may not need anything, unless you plan to use it live too.
TC-Helicon Thanks for replying quickly :) I Just haven't found a doubler VST that sounds like this pedal though and it's nice to be able to sing with the effect activated.
can you control the delay using tap pedal??
Does this have Pitch Correction? I didn't actually see any demo of that feature specifically.
YES
I see theres a pedal input, is it possible to use another controller pedal to change presets and control the HIT button so that the unit itself can be placed higher up on a microphone stand to be able to see the display easier and have access to the dials in case of an emergency without having to bend down ?
+Mike Acosta Tc helicon switch 3 or switch 6 :D
Yes, it is possible with a TC-Helicon Switch-3 (or compatible) pedal. The TC-Helicon Switch-6 pedal is not compatible with the blue VoiceLive Play.
i think it is nice unit but i had to try it first then decide, btw the singer she have the same style that i hear from many many singer same haay hayy hayy, tune& style.
thanks for the video
can you record direct to pro tools with an effects configuration? Does it work with windows 10? and will i need an interface with two imputs for the stereo efects like ping pong delays?
Thank you
Sounded great but I couldn’t keep up with you. Also the light was shining on the buttons so you couldn’t read them
.......is there a way to put the presets in alphabetical order?
i m having trouble getting harmony & reverb. Can anyone help as this stage that s all i want. i tried resetting to factory but nothing happened when hitting buttons.
Permission to ask in Pop Auto Tune mode. Can I set the key?
HELP! I've just bought the voicelive play, we have a rock band, and I'm having some problems in our rehersal. We rehearse in a small room acoustically isolated and I connect the voicelive in just one amplifier, I don't know why it makes a lot of noise whistles really loud) when I turn the volume and the gain up and if I turn them down, we can't hear the effects and my voice is low and strange, it's even hard to hear the reverb. I don't know if I made the presets wrong or set up. HELP!.
Did you ever find out how to fix it? I will be buying this, and using 1 amp also.
@@donnar278 Set SETUP / TONE STYLE to OFF. The other settings also turn on a compressor effect, which can easily cause feedback in small rooms.
hey I wonder: do you need a TC-MP-75 mic to use it or does it work with others microphones (I actually use the Shure beta 58A)
VoiceLive Play works with any dynamic or condenser microphone.
So what would the initial set up be? where would the xrl plug into?
Can I use the 1/8th inch input to send a guitar for key tracking? Manual only says a track. Will it use an electric guitar input for key info?
Yes, you can.
Im having an issue with the box when I use harnony presets, the harmonies kick out at certain points or dont work at all. I've had two performances where this has happened and I don't want to scrap my device but its now becoming a nuisance. HELP!!!!
There is a gate on the harmony voices which can reduce their volume when your mic isn't set up correctly. Make sure you have the Mic Gain knob on the side of the Play turned up such that you see a Green/Yellow LED as much as possible while you're singing. If it turns RED, turn things down a bit.
can u use this device just for guitar to get effects
if u r not a singer?
Is the gate assignable to the main mic signal before any other fx in the chain or is it only for the megaphone fx?
You can do this through the tone settings on Voicelive Play. The "more comp" tone style adds a more aggressive gate, but there are several other gate options in the different tone styles.
Looks cool, but no distortion or chorus effects? Also, could I mix in an octave down & an octave up (plus the regular voice) at the same time?
Childhoof There's definitely distortion and chorus! You'll find distortion/megaphone stuff in the Transducer block and our chorus/flange is in uMod.
TC-Helicon
Ah, cool - distortion wasn't checked off in the comparison chart (between VoiceLive Play vs. 2, 3) so I thought it wasn't in there. What about 2 different octaves plus normal voice...doable?
when looping, can you back out of the last level you added to a loop, or do you have to start completely over if you make a mistake?
can you connect it to a berigher 404 hd euphoria audio interface
What are the differences between the "Gate Threshold" and "Filter" on transducer effect?
The "Filter" parameter will change the sound/character of the effect. The "Gate Threshold" tells the effect when to activate, anything above that threshold will turn on the effect - we use this gate so it isn't trying to apply the transducer to background noise when you aren't singing :)
It really will track guitar chords on the spot and play smart harmonies?
VoiceLive Play doesn't have a guitar input, but will track chords over the Aux input, which you could plug a guitar processor etc. into. If you want to plug a guitar in/thru I'd look at "Harmony Singer", "Play Acoustic", "Play Electric" or VoiceLive 3
Really quick question? Could I put more than one Style of the same effect on one preset?
No. Only 1 style per FX block.
I set my harmonies to turn on with hit control and I don't hear them, then I set it to on and I still don't hear them. Whats going on? They were working yesterday?? Is there a defect or am i missing something?
Christina Amar Check the level for both effects, and also check on the MIX page to see that you haven't turned down the "harmony/doubling" control. That affects the levels of all harmony/doubling across all presets.
i just got one LUV IT
06:31 is the GladOs from Portal effect!
not my favorite TC-Helicon video. Looks like a great product.
What's this 'Fi-eeo' she keeps singing about?
I am nearsighted and color blind. can change the colors or contrast on the screen?
There is a contrast control in the setup menu. I believe it's on the System tab.
When I hold the hit button to turn off all effects my volume jumps way too loud.....am I missing something? How do I get all 3 settings similar? Referring to the talk setting, preset, then add the hit button....
Did you fix this? I’m having same frustrating problem
John Morgan I sold my VoicePlay Live and bought the Acoustic Play.....haven’t had the issue on that one
When the transducer is routed to Effects 9:48, it isn't happening on Doubling/Harmony. It is happening on Delay, but delay already has its advanced menu to choose a transducer style delay. The transducer is happening over the reverb(set to FX) or over lead voice and reverb (output). Which results in a crunched overall sound, but it kills your reverb..
Let's say if you have transducer routed to fx on HIT, you go from a lucious reverb, to a crunched dark reverb. Can I have a normal verb + crunch?
I have a problem with my Helicon When I switch it on just a destorted
Destorted sound! What could be wrong? Are there any factory resets or what else do wrong I don't know if my power input cable is 12volt or 9 Volt?
Practice mode... can I get a tutorial about how to get the most out of it? Thanks
+Nuala Mcdermott It's described in the manual on page 30 :) There's not really a "right" way to use it. It's kind of like an odometer for your voice, combined with a pitch meter. The accuracy over time shows you if you're generally singing in tune or not and the live pitch meter can show you how accurately you're singing the current note.

Hello, i'm a big fan of your stuff. Currently own Mic Mechanic. I was wondering, can i set the tempo of the delay on VoiceLive Play by tapping, just like MicMechanic? Thank you for the info :)
Apparently something that's starting in her heart....
a lot of what is discussed in this video series is NOT explained to this detail in the manual that comes with the unit..that shouldn't be the case! I am appreciative to learn what I am learning from these videos, but it would have been wonderful if the manual had me on the better path from the beginning!
The instructions are more talking and less demonstrating.
the fuckin fire...
I've had one of these since they first came out, but can't get the octave function to work.
Harmonies are fine, but octave doesn't work.
Hi Alan, how do you mean it doesn't work? If you select "Octave Up, Octave Dn, or Octave Up&Dn" do you not hear any output?
Hi. Thanks for coming back to me. I'll check on the weekend and come back to you. Not used this for about six months, but have some live gigs booked, so will check this out again I just remember I couldn't get it to produce octave harmonies. It does the normal harmonies, but not the octave.
How do you delete things from the store?
You can get free recording software from Audacity. I use it for all of my demos. Type in Audacity into Google.
Can you plug in headphones and just listen to your vocals and guitar through them?
Yes, we practice with it that way all the time, but the original Voicelive Play doesn't have any effects for Guitars.
@@tchelicon Great. I'm more interested in the vocals. This looks like a neat little piece of kit. Can it be connected to a computer and presets recorded?
@@mimoochodom2684 whats the answer?
@@EntireHistory I sold it. I'm pretty sure you can. I got as far as vocals . It was overkill for me. You might like it.
The doubling isn't working either!!??
Great sir can I have number I buy but not good guidance if you help me please
When I change the key and then save in a new location the key keeps changing back. What am I doing wrong?
Do you have global key/scale on in the setup menu?
Thanks for the reply. I found the answer to my problem on your Knowledge Base.
As I under the pedal recordings please to edit them
can you use this with a Multi Track Recorder
Sure, you can output directly to the inputs on a recorder.
I now hate rollin in the deep
Time to head to the Shallows then.
Record the direct Signal the next Time please
Wow, this looks awesome!
Are there some good effects for hip hop/rap?
Definitely! Common effects for hh/rap would be doubling, delay (echo), transducer (megaphone/distortion), HardTune and some harmony depending on whether the chorus is more "sung" than rapped. The Tone feature will also make your mic just sound clearer and more defined in the mix, which is a great bonus. There's a Hip Hop genre for the presets that can give you a jumping off point, but always keep in mind that a presets title, even if it's for a country song, could work perfectly for a completely different style of music, so try them all!
Thanks for the answer!
I just ordered the product online, cant wait to start a session with this!
Can u use this with recording equipment?
Sure can. You can connect the outputs directly to an audio interface and record to a DAW.
So the subtle hard tune setting is the most useful, and only worthwhile setting in that section of the pedal. And you completely skip over it? Yep!!! But there was 17 robot demos, a alien, and making it sound like satan. Cause that’s important!!!!
Was thinking the same thing
You couldn't find someone in the Metal/Thrash and Rock genre?????
How many user presets can be stored?
285
Will this work for Metal music?
Sure! All of the vocal effects in VoiceLive Play can be useful in Metal. Typically, Metal vocals use Reverb, Doubling, Harmony and Transducer, depending on the band and recording techniques of course.
Yes, I use it in my band Obsidian Order it's great for live gig's and fantastic for recording,
The settings for the Key and the advanced settings for harmonies(Maj 1, Min 1, etc...) don't save with the rest of the settings. It's pointless to use this device if I can't save the key settings.
Nathan Redmon Hmm, they should be saving with the preset. What version of firmware are you using? (it shows briefly on startup)
I think I figured this out a bit ago... It was the "global key" setting. It was "on" and I turned it "off". Everything seems to be saving correctly now. But, while I've got your ear.... How do I do songs in Minor keys? I'm trying to do harmonies on a song in Gm. I set the key to G, went in to the advanced settings and changed a song to MIN1, then MIN2, then MIIN3. None of them sounded right.
Nathan Redmon There are times where none of the selections will be perfect, but I often find that I've either chosen the wrong key or that I can use the relative major scale to get the right output. Is it an original song or a cover?
It's a cover, and it's a beast. Long Train Runnin' by the Doobie Brothers. Not sure this device can handle it. LOL
Nathan Redmon Ah yeah that's a tricky one, and coincidentally the song I was the best at on Dance Dance Revolution in the arcade lol.
It may be that you need to have multiple presets to cover various different sections of the tune. That's a fairly common approach when the voicings change a lot. See if you can find a key/scale that works most of the time, then when you run into an issue, try a different scale (or key/scale) for just that section. If it works, create a second preset right next to the other and swap between. You can "store to" on the store screen to make just the key/scale change and keep all the other settings the same, saving it adjacent to the current preset.
This looks really hard to deal while you are on stage
If you program it properly, it can also be used on stage.
can u use a condenser mic w this?
Yep, sure can. You'd select "Condenser" from the Setup --> Input --> Mic Type menu.
I've got one of this ..any buyer out there?
Mine didn't work brand new, out of the box, so apparently they've got ZERO regard for quality control. It's an expensive paperweight. POS
@@EvolvedCognition yeah quite expensive bro
How can I download the Mega pack presets ?
Our VoiceSupport program handles all preset management and downloads. You can get it here: www.tc-helicon.com/products/voicesupport/
@@tchelicon it seems that this weblink is not active anymore - so no voicesupport for customers who bought the VoicelivePlay last couple of years... ?
@@henkvalcke7523 Google "VoiceSupport 2".
It does not sense the chord audibly and adjust harmony?
Yes, it can sense chords using its RoomSense mics to figure out key/scale for harmony. It's the least reliable way of doing it, simply because the room etc. can have an effect on how well the Play can "hear" chords. Setting the key/scale manually and using the Aux input are preferable. That said, if you're strumming an acoustic gutiar in front of it, the Play should to a great job of figuring things out via RoomSense.
