    Just got one of these for my singer. The best thing so far is that we dont have to rely on a lazy soundman to switch the vocal effects. The singer can dial in the entire set and control all the effects himself. Great product!

    Hey thanks for sharing these videos! I just bought one of this units at Guitar Center and it really has improved my vocal abilities! I am new at TC Helicon products.The efxs are great and very easy to use, custom-Editing programming is a piece of cake!There are a few things which will make this unit better such as having an On/Off switch rather than having to unplugging The power each time and perhaps adding 1/4 phono plugs outputs, the XLR stereo outs are fine but since i too intended on using it for recording purposes usually computer sound cards are not compatible With XLR connectors...So i had no other option than to run to Radio Shack to get all that i needed to make my own cables.Other than that is a great vocals investment. I am working on a new álbum and all vocals will have the use of this unit.

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  8 лет назад

      Hi Exavier, glad to have you aboard!
      The unit is designed to be unplugged so that's why we don't have a switch.
      Our units are typically geared towards connecting to pro audio gear that very rarely uses phono connections. Those are unbalanced and pretty easy to get signal noise. I'd suggest using USB if you don't have an audio interface. Here's a video on that:

    Hello! I just purchased one of these. Is there any way to mute/cancel whatever is plugged into the Aux input from showing up on the XLR Output? I want to drive the harmony with a send from my guitar amp, but don't want that guitar signal to pass thru the VoiceLive on the XLR output. Make sense? Also, on the Setup menu there is are settings for the Aux input (i.e. Live; tracks; Monitor) ... what is the Monitor setting used for?

    Hey - I use the voicelive play for industrial/rock and electronic stuff. It's very adaptable. The effects are also very easy to edit so you can set up the fx blocks to suit your own taste. Might be helpful if TC featured different singers showcasing what it can do though... :)

  • @HeithinnGydja

    It has internal mics to listen to what your guitar (or any ambient sound) is playing without having to plug it in. So if you're at practice or live, it listens to what everyone is playing - which everyone SHOULD be playing in the same key (do not confuse key with note). It figures what key you are in automatically without the need for an "alternative external input" telling it what key it should be in. There is also the option to set the key manually.

      I have a couple Acoustic Plays and my drummer has bought Voicelive Play to sing through. We like to set the keys to stick to a patch (C Maj2) for example, which in the Acoustic Plays seems to save just fine, but with the Voicelive Plays we can't seem to get this to stick. For example, we have set the up/down functionality to 'set key' which it allows, but each time we access it again, its picked some random key and maj/min variant, even when we haven't changed the patch. Any ideas on how to lock the key?

    I have been looking for a high quality vocal processor. That gives the singer some control over how effects are used on their vocals. I have watch many videos for vocal processors and most are very dreadful. This one really does the job, I got to see and hear how it will sound if used in stereo. How to only activate the harmonies when you want them on certain parts, which gives a more realistic approach to how vocals sound with harmonies. On certain phrases and not always on which sounds unnatural. When I look at demos, I want to see them used in the application it was designed for. Great job. I think it is great it has a library of fx based on popular songs. Whether you use it or not it can be very useful for a cover band, plus the fx are studio quality.

    Hey, the VoiceLive Play is specifically targeted at people who are new to effects. At the same time it has enough options for the power user, to which you seem to belong. You always have the option to remove the song/artist presets manually. Also, hooking it up to VoiceSupport will allow you to import hundreds of new presets to chnage things up! :-)

    Hi Jeff,
    If you have audio coming in via the Aux-In or USB or you've got the RoomSense mics set to Ambient/Auto, with the Harmony set to Auto, the Play will figure out the Key for you. It's more accurate via Aux or USB, but works well with RoomSense, depending on how close it is to a chordal instrument.

    Hi MrMissingClue,
    The practice mode isn't looking at a particular key, just how close you are to each individual note. The accuracy score you see is the "total" of all the notes you've sung and the displayed percentage is an average of those notes. Hope that makes sense!

    Hi! Does this have a tone button or tone effect like the Perform V and other TC-Helicon products so that my voice can be compressed and EQ'd? The effects offered in this unit interest me but I am also looking at the TC Helicon Perform V. I like the idea of the perform V because it has a tone button which seems give you a nice crisp studio sound and a separate talk button (I rap so I want to easily be able to perform with no effects from time to time). Also outside of a bit of auto tune, all I really need is reverb and delay or double, another reason why the perform V interests me since I think I will have all my bases covered there.
    I am a hip-hop artist doing many lives shows and the biggest point of feedback that I have received is that my vocals sound dry. I don't have the luxury of having an engineer setting up my sound so I want to come to my shows with this already figured out which is why I am interested in this product.

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  7 лет назад +2

      Nice! If you play guitar, you might want to consider a Play Electric. Even if you don't use the onboard guitar effects, the In/Thru can go to your amp/pedals. The benefit is that you'll capture the guitar chords to generate harmony without having to set key/scale.

      The Heart of Rock & Roll: A Tribute To Huey Lewis and The News Heya, with over 1000 presets out there for download via VoiceSupport, you can definitely use lots of them across many different songs. Don't worry about matching the title of the preset to the specific song it might reference. The presets can apply to tons of different music.

    HI Poppa,
    It's placed in a relatively "hidden" position in order to prevent accidental knocks and level changes during performance. Since these units are on the road a fair bit, we want to make sure the mic level stays put after it has been adjusted during sound check/setup.

  • @HeithinnGydja
    @HeithinnGydja 12 лет назад +1

    I think it's on the 2nd 3rd video too that you can set - say your reverb, or your main voice to have distortion after "X" gain level. So if you want clean while you're singing one part, say a softer type verse, but as you start to get louder, like in the chorus or bridge it will add the distortion so you can still save your Hit for something else like duplicator or the bullhorny/telephone sound

  • @tchelicon
    @tchelicon  11 лет назад +2

    The effects used on vocals are common to all genres, so you could totally use this for rock/metal.
    Just because a preset is modeled after a Britney song, doesn't mean the effects themselves aren't appropriate to other genres.
    Listen for the sound you like, not necessarily the title of the preset.
    Hope that makes sense!

    Hi MaadDaawg,
    There's no Blues Genre, but I'd try all sorts of presets to see what you like. Even though presets fall in certain genres based on the song they're built from, effects like Reverb, Delay and Harmony are common to all styles of music, so a hard rock song's effects could literally be exactly the same as a Clapton tune.

      You've probably gotten an answer by now, but just in case you didn't: The Switch3 can control looping, but I don't know if any other functions can be assigned ("mapped") to its switches.
      Here's something from the manual: "Note: When a Switch3 is plugged in, Key/Scale selection is automatically assigned to UP/DN .When the Switch3 is unplugged, UP/DN remains Key/Scale and will need to be changed in the setup menu if you wish to assign UP/DN back to Looping."
      I bought a Switch 3 with my VLP, but haven't used it yet. (Oh, no! Another Learning Curve!)

    Did you try a cable that goes 1/4male to 1/8male to run from an out the board - or last monitor to the aux in for the iPods and such? I know no one needs more chords hanging around the stage, but it may be a better alternative to the GTX if you like this particular pedal better. The GTX has the inputs for the guitar but I don't think it has all the other cool things you can do due to the internal mics, like practice with no mic, etc.

    Professor Smartypants says the melody of Rolling in the Deep starts on the "5" of the key of the song. Yes she was singing an F note, but the F major scale was a poor choose of harmony pitches. Try Ab for the verses and Eb for the Chorusses. You'll be much happier with that!

      Thanks for the feedback! It's tricky to balance direct control and simplicity in a product like VoiceLive Play. I'm not new to vocal pedals, but I bought this one and love all the many features and so much room for presets and I love the voice support etc etc - except I cannot use it in a live band setting!
    I have literally spent MONTHS putting in my bands repertoire and having two or three different presets per song. I took it to band practice and it was awesome.
    But I got to the gig and it all went out the window! It's like it just goes berserk on me! PLEASE! Is there just a live setting that I can set and forget? Yes I do the vocal volume to just go green - but as of right now, after trying a second gig where I had to put it away and pull out my Boss again, it is going into the red even when the wheel is way down ... One minute it's green and the next it's flipping out. And it's doing it at home without it being connected to a PA.
    It's like it's having a tantrum all the time and then comes right for a bit.
    I'm not one to admit defeat, but the bottom line is - it's just bloody unreliable and as for easy to use - I beg to differ! What a let down! I am sure it's to do with the initial setup - and if any musicians can help me out I would be really grateful - but I will also add, the lack of an on and off switch and the short flimsy power chord upside down is extremely disappointing and a pain in the arse. A decent power supply is quite crucial one would think.. .
    The unit has potential but it needs to be reliable so you can plug in and play and I am just not finding it to be one bit! I could be doing something wrong - and if so, please please can someone help here? A live setting. Someone please gimme a live setting!

      I have a few tips in case a sound technician makes the sound at a concert:
      1. Set SETUP / TONE STYLE to OFF. The sound technician will then adjust the EQ / compressor the way he/she wants.
      2. Set SETUP / OUTPUT to MONO and set SETUP / LEAD MUTE to ON. Thus, on the Right XLR output you can hear the dry vocals ("Lead"), and on the Left XLR output you can hear everything else (the effects applied to the Lead, the harmony and the effects applied to the harmony). Glue on a piece of light-colored tape and rename the XLR outputs ("DRY", "MONO"). If you send both outputs to the FOH mixer, the sound technician can only give you the Lead to the monitor. This is especially useful if you also use Transducer effects.
      3. Set MIX / OUT LEVEL to -10dB to get mic output level. At 0dB the signal is really hot.

    I recently started using the voice live play to record my youtube covers. I love it! Is there a way to set up a preset to harmonize with my own voice? If so, explain please.

    • @tchelicon

      Eric Cole Sure, there's a couple of ways, but the easiest is to find a preset with Harmony in it and then set the key/scale to the song you're singing via the EFFECTS edit button.
      The section on editing effects is in the manual on pages 19 and on.
      Cheers,

    Got one of these a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic unit. Quick question on setting the key in the harmony section. If you were singing a song in Em, would you set the key as E or G (Em being the relative minor of G)??

      G, if you choose E, that would be C#minor

    HELP! I've just bought the voicelive play, we have a rock band, and I'm having some problems in our rehersal. We rehearse in a small room acoustically isolated and I connect the voicelive in just one amplifier, I don't know why it makes a lot of noise whistles really loud) when I turn the volume and the gain up and if I turn them down, we can't hear the effects and my voice is low and strange, it's even hard to hear the reverb. I don't know if I made the presets wrong or set up. HELP!.

    I'm enjoying my pedal. crazy question - I'm wondering if there's a way to plug two microphones into it at the same time - I know it only has one mic in, but, Is there an XLR splicer or some way I could rig it?

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  9 лет назад

      DJ Candy Durant The units aren't intended for multiple inputs, since we need a single lead note to generate harmony/doubling from. You could run the unit in an Aux send/return loop from a mixer if you only wanted to use the spatial effects like Reverb/Delay, but for multiple vocalists we'd recommend a separate unit for each.

    I've been really excited about buying this pedal, but have been reading a number of reviews that say it's not useful when being backed by a full band in a live setting (i.e. practice space, small shows, etc.). Can it be used in that setting? All of the demo videos I've seen have either been solo singers, or someone singing with only a guitar. I play bass in the band also, if that matters.

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  6 лет назад

      We typically show smaller solo setups in videos simply because production is a lot easier to deal with. Plenty of people use the products in a live setting in bigger bands. The things to be mindful of (at least my opinion) are:
      1. Keep in mind that "bleed" from the band can interfere with generating harmony voices. So, pick a mic with good rejection and set your gain when you're quite close to the mic. If you stand back a foot when you sing with a loud band, a lot of the band will make it into the unit.
      2. Be mindful that Tone adds EQ, Compression, De-Ess and Gate to your mic, so you need to flatten any EQ at the PA (from the sound tech's perspective, it's more like getting a fully processed signal like a backing track or keyboard, so they shouldn't treat it like "every other SM58 and singer" they are used to). Flattening the FOH mixer can also greatly reduce the chance of feedback, which will immediately be blamed on the unit ;)
      3. For the Play specifically, RoomSense can be great, but also sometimes unreliable based on what the unit can "hear" of chords in the room. I'd go with a more reliable key/scale setup by saving the key and scale for each song/preset manually so there's no room for confusion.
      4. Have fun owning your own sound as a singer! It can really be transformative to have complete control over your sound at all times during a show and can really have a big impact on the audience.

    Great unit! Always use it for live performances with my bands! But some PAguys came to me saying my voice often sounded out of phase? Do you know why that is? Also some feedback problems when i have lots and lots of delay and reverb but I guess that's normal in that situation with wedges. :)

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  9 лет назад

      Simon Nuytten Hmm, I'd check out the output mode. Perhaps if you were sending a stereo output and they weren't expecting it they could have summed the channels by mistake or something?
      Make sure that the FOH isn't adding any effects at all, even EQ or compression etc. to your Play signal. That will compound with Tone from the Play and be much more feedback prone.

    • @BTSSIMON
      @BTSSIMON 9 лет назад

      TC-Helicon Ok thank you! I'm also using the Play mono but haven't checked if i'm in mono mode so I guess that could be some explanation?
      And also Mostly I'm using a split before the Play to have a dry signal of my voice so FOH can mix these 2 signals when he wants.. but maybe that isn't the best idea either?

      Hey Tim! Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with STP music, but if you're going to be using Harmonies, then you'd need to either set the key you're singing in, or use Roomsense to listen to the chord progression of the music occuring in the room.

    Hey Craig!
    Have a few questions hope you can answer them, can't figure it out.
    I just got the TC VoiceLivePlay and it works fine so far, but I also got a Helicon Switch-6, and it seems to me I can't assign the buttons properly, in setup it says Switch-3. I have updated firmware and everything but the button 1down 2up 3hit doesn't work.
    The reason I got the Switch-6 was to assign 6 different presets that I have modified.
    I want Switch-6 like this:
    1. Preset 250
    2 Preset 251
    etc
    Do the Switch-6 not work with the Helicon VoiceLIvePlay or is something else missing?
    And, the overdrive effect don't seem to work, the vocals isn't distored even on max level. All other effects works properly to edit/configure the way I want them on my preset.
    Simon

    • @tchelicon
      @tchelicon  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Simon. Switch 6 isn't supported for Play. The only Play series it works with is Play Electric.
      We don't have the option to assign specific presets to a Switch 3/6, but you can assign preset up/dn if you like.

    Hello. Is it possible to have a mono output from this device? For example, if I plug only the left output to the PA, will I have a mono output or this kind of connection is not correct?
    Furthermore, do you think is it possible to connect this machine to other pedals? I'm thinking to devices like Eventide pitch-factor or EHX 45000 loop station. In these case I should use XLR/TRS connectors. Do you think this may cause noise/humming?

    • @kiskadar69
      @kiskadar69 10 месяцев назад

      The SETUP / Output parameter sets the way VoiceLive Play outputs sound via the XLR outputs. There are 3 settings:
      1. STEREO: XLR outputs receive a stereo mix of all voices and other inputs.
      2. MONO: a MONO full-mix signal is on the LEFT and a DRY vocal is on the RIGHT.
      3. DUAL MONO: a MONO effected voice signal (all voices) is on the LEFT and AUX is on the RIGHT. This is great for sending music to one channel of a PA and Vocals to another, especially in a Karaoke situation.
