I've been in Dallas for 13 years now, the eye is actually the result of a dispute between the property owner and the city over permits. They wanted to make it a business or something but the city refused to grant any permits so they "got back" at the city by placing the eye there as an eyesore to troll the city.

This is such a good channel. As someone who is a father, but doesn’t have a relationship with my own, I really appreciate the “Pops” and son time. Can’t get much better than that. I just keep thinking of how happy your dad must be being able to do thus with you
I was also in the 2nd grade at Waxahachie ISD during the JFK assassination. We were all brought to a particular teacher's classroom as a large group and our school principal announced it over the intercom. We were soon loaded on our busses to go home where we watched everything on TV. Even at seven years old I remember the surreal feelings of national trauma. It didn't matter what age you were - we were all feeling the same thing.
I live in Fort Worth Texas. I was barely a teen at the time our President was killed. He had flown in to Fort Worth the night before going to Dallas and my parents took us kids to see the plane come in. It was so exciting. When President Kennedy stepped off the plane the first thing I noticed was how handsome and tan he was. Jackie was beautiful. The next day in class it was announced the Kennedy had been shot and was heading toward Parkland hospital. The intercom came back on a little later to tell us he had died. We too went home from school and spent days in front of a black and white TV. It was sad and you didn’t want to watch, but you felt you must. Businesses where empty, nothing was going on, it was like the world stopped.😊
We did 24hrs in Dallas back in 2017. Stayed at the OMNI and did the 6th Floor Museum. I gotta say that Dealey Plaza did have a really strange vibe about it. Kinda like a time capsule.
You have the best Dad. All the places your Dad and you have gone is a beautiful story to tell. I really enjoy your videos, because of your dad and the scenery you show us.
I always enjoy your travelogs. They are so interesting, well thought out, and/or researched... I enjoy the food excursions, as well.🌞👏🎉 I was a young, school child, at the time of the assassination, too. My experiences absolutely mirrored your Dad's. I can recall that time vividly.❤️🩹😔
The owner of the Joule Hotel wanted to build a parking garage for the guest. However, the city did not allow because they have building codes. The city said a parking garage there would be an “eyesore “ hence the eyeball. Well played I say!
When Kennedy was shot I was in 6th grade in east TX, about 3 hrs due east of Dallas. We were painting a mural at the back of the classroom when we were told. My dad picked us up in our family tan colored VW beetle. We watched things unfold on the b&w tv. The nation was truly in mourning during this sad time.
I was just in Dallas for a family wedding that was held at the art museum. I didn’t get to see much while there but what I saw intrigued me and I’d love to go back and see more. We also went to the Dealey Plaza and it was fascinating. Looking forward to seeing more Texas videos!
Oh my gosh!! I loved this video sooo much that I watched it twice!! Pops on the cattle drive was hysterical! It gave me such a good laugh!!😂 The shots of the beautiful stained glass were gorgeous!! Just beautiful! After seeing this video I want to visit Texas!!
You covered many interesting places. Dallas has a LOT to see so you could not have possibly covered it in that length of time. Dallas also has some of the best variety of amazing restaurants in Texas. (It ranks pretty high in national rankings that I’ve read.) A couple more places that I love there are the Dallas Arboretum and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science.
This video makes me miss Dallas so much! Really happy you got to check out the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge! I went there at day and night to get a different perspective and let me tell you it is a spectacle at night! The Dallas skyline is one of my favorites and I love the views of it you get from the bridge. I have a few videos driving around Dallas and the bridge myself. I love this video Josh! Looking forward to more Texas content!
Can you answer this. Why is a suspension bridge needed? I've seen creeks wider that have regular over passes. I understand the flooding, but usually suspension bridges are for so that ships can pass under. The river is not navigable. Is it for show???
Great job capturing interesting points in Dallas that actually capture the essence of this place. I actually had my first date with my boyfriend of 4 years at the Margaret Hunt hill Bridge!
I learned to drive the mule wagon to to be a Chuck wagon chef on the trail rides while I lived in Dallas. I learned several ways to cook there. Been where you guys have been this time.
Southfork Ranch in Dallas where the Dallas series was filmed was a lovely place to visit away from the bustling life of Dallas...Downtown in the centre some where they had a live band playing ... Trip down memory lane...
A real fun video, loved the bronze herd crossing the river and the wild cowboy hazing em on. I had fun, and salivated at the BBQ rib. Thanks for the trip.
Pops and I have got to be about the same age. I too remember this time as being a huge event. I was practicing for a play in the 3rd grade. Mr. Myers, ran into the auditorium and there were two television sets on high frames. He turned them around facing the chairs. It was surreal. The drum beat went on forever on television. Regular television programming was off for several days. I too saw Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald. This is definitely on my list of places to go. I want to go on the JFK walking assassination tour. Then head to San Antonio, stopping by Waco. Another huge event. I'm a traveler myself. It's all about learning. Mom and I went to the Lorraine Hotel too. Another huge event. Keep traveling. I really enjoy your travels. Thank you. Mary
I think I'm about the age of your father! I was in first grade, and remember asking my mother when cartoons would be coming back on. She told me to shush, because this was important. Later, I remember seeing Oswald being shot on live TV! You'd never see this today. It definitely had an effect on my life.
Did you know when you were down by the MHH Bridge you were standing in the old Squatter’s Camp where Clyde Barrow and his family lived in a tent in the 1920s, along with many more of the poorest people in the Dallas area back then? The Bonnie and Clyde history in that region is super interesting to me. Btw Pops is a riot! 😂
Your channel was just suggested to me. Funny because I'm currently sitting in England, though we are from Dallas! It was so fun to see your highlights of visiting our city. I can't believe you had BBQ so early in the morning... and that rib was the biggest thing I've seen! And apparently it had the biggest price tag as well! haha Well done with the video. I enjoyed your vlog with Pops ;-) All the best, Dara
As an Australian the explore relevant to JFK was very interesting. I haven’t seen this on any other travel video or programme on Texas. Thanks for sharing it. Never been to the US but hope to get there sometime in the next 30 years !
My daughter just arrived there a few hours ago from Doha ,will be there for about three days. I hope that she will get a chance to tour some parts of the city and enjoy some of the Texas famous barbecue.
Awesome video! We drove though parts of TX doing RT 66 last year, hopefully we can get back to try some BBQ . We’ll definitely keep in mind the price when ordering lol
Like Pop I was in school but in the 5th grade. Suddenly our teacher was called out of the room. She came back in crying and told us Pres Kennedy had been killed. We went home and were off of school and watched the funeral. A few years ago I drove down Dealy Plaza and was surprised how small it was compared to what TV made it to be. Sad time in America.
