After seeing soo many builds with just wooden two by fours and plywood, its great to see someone build a metal frame. I will get started on my project this week.

I have same year color excursion. I got it for free from my daughters friends dad.
I put 6k into bulletproofing the 6.0! I absolutely love excursions! Next is 4" lift & 36"ers. I welded a rack similar to this , but custom made a rolling deck underneath to access all the goodies!

What is the length of the sleeping platform?

Good question, it’s been so long since we built I don’t know. I do the customer uses a queen size mattress on it and it fits perfectly

Beautiful job. I see that you decided not to triangulate fore and aft. Is it proving to be plenty rigid? Also how is the line-x painted over plywood holding up?

Thanks! It’s super strong can hold two grown men and a dog no problem. We also wheel the old girl pretty hard. Linex is an amazing product and it holds up very well I have it on some other wood parts that have been in 4x4s for over 10 years with no problem.

I think I would rather listen to the tools whine or the nails on a chalk board that the repetition of this background music. I really like the build though.

I recently bought an excursion to be my tow rig for my jeep. Great idea on the bed. Looking to do the same. any pics of the set up w/ the boxes? My thought about where the spare tire was. Be able to put a cooler in that spot. Customize a little rack to support it and maybe cut out enough to fit a yeti. I was kinda thinking about that. I build custom tonneau covers for jeeps. JFTops.com. If you were in Texas I’d have you build me my rack.. I’m good w/ the wood... not quite the welder..LOL..
