Oh my dear Tasmin, ugh.. a thousand blessings to you both. So, you can bounce this off your partner, but from my limited understanding of when someone says "até amanhã" on our island, which literally translates to "until tomorrow" in English, the speaker really means more like until a future time and not literally tomorrow with the possibility that it could be tomorrow but without certainty. "Até próxima" would be a more appropriate literal translation of what actually happens, which means "until next time" or "until we are in proximity to each other again", but from my experience here I gather that the connotation conveys more of a distance or it is possibly less of a recognition of the friendship and/or the good will that they have towards you or your situation. Maybe in other parts of Portugal there's less of a difference between what is literally said and what actually is the case, I don't know for sure, but I think here on Pico this is a thing we all say, "até amanhã" even when you're pretty sure your paths won't cross tomorrow.

Hey Wayne, thanks for your insight. You are correct that "Até amanhã" is often just used as a phrase to say "see ya!" But that was not what was being said in the conversations I was referring to. There were active promises, including the times of arrival, etc. That is different

Tasmin, sounds like you guys should have used tiles or have a stone floor instead. That's horrendous amount of work. My arms are aching just from watching you. YIKES!

Well, since the floor in that part of the house is floating on woodbeams (see the previous videos), tiles or stone were not an option as we did not have time or money to pour a full floor with cement and metal (etc) before doing the final layer. Wood was our only option. While it was for sure the hardest part of renovations, both for our bodies and nerves, I am writing this comment sitting on my sofa on top of that beautiful wooden floor :) Happy End!

@@Tasmetu As long as you are happy. That's all that matters. I was just thinking of all of the moisture on the island. That is one heck of contruction and it seems like you and your partner did most of the work. Good for you. But YIKES!
