Thank you for bringing me back to the place I was born. I usually don't last too long watching travel videos from the Azores as the presenters (youtubers? Influencers?) often seem pretentious, and often just show exactly the same things over and over again. You two bring me there with you, and that's the difference. The way you show the flora, and describe the textures, the smells, and the overall feelings - you are very much taking your viewers along for the ride, not just having people watching aimlessly. I don't think I can pay you two a bigger compliment than this. Please keep it up, wherever you go! In many of your videos, I feel like I am there, and find it impossible to turn off. Thank you! As for the paying for the entrance fees to hiking areas/parks, I believe you answered your own question - it goes towards maintenance. Maybe the "3 waterfalls" guy was for profit, but I don't know. Definitely Terra Nostra park has employees that keep everything manicured, plus someone travels to various destinations bringing back new plants and trees with them. There is always some change there, as I am led to believe. I live in Alberta, and there is an entrance fee for all National Parks, as well as many provincial parks. The prices change depending on how long you plan on visiting (you can even get a season's pass). Most of that money goes towards maintaining the trails, managing the bear population (trying to keep them away from people and keeping tabs specifically on problem bears - a good channel to watch is "The Bear Guy" who is a conservation officer here in Alberta if you are interested), paying wages of support staff, and conservation - probably more reasons that I don't know about. Provincial parks used to be free, but recently they instituted a fee for Kananaskis park due to the high increase in volume as more people started visiting due to covid. Most of the famous hiking areas here do have an entrance fee. Many do not. I guess for me, I find it surprising that there are areas that never have fees as fees is what I am used to. Hopefully you two will do Canada so I can enjoy watching where I have been again, and seeing other people enjoy it (one of the treats of watching your Azores videos is seeing how you are or are not enjoying the same places that I frequented). Thanks for making these videos. I am going to back track to the Madeira videos that I haven't caught up with, and even further back. I look forward to you two showing me places that I have never been to, and I am sure that it will feel like I am being brought along for the ride. :)
Thank you so much for your kind words & compliments on our videos! We love sharing our journey and it means a lot to us when our videos are received that way!
Hi Lauza and Michael! We really enjoyed this video and your others about your time on the Azores. We hope to get the chance to meet you once you have returned to Madeira. Cheers.
Remote work is becoming more important and that makes remote locations more and more popular but expensive. Memories of your followers of Gran Canaria.
Good luck! Prices have skyrocketed everywhere...We are lucky to have bought an affordable home with an affordable mortgage because Lisbon and elsewhere has become uncertain and expensive...Peace of mind and we can still travel and enjoy a stress free life!
Thank u for sharing your lives, adventures and realities with us. I hope to make my move to Madeira from New Mexico USA by end of summer. Alles liebe und gute von Veronika.
Love watching your videos. You guys are such a cute couple. I could see the difference in Michael´s face explaining why you guys have to leave the Azores. Good luck in Madeira. Stay safe. I was born in Flores, we will be back in July. Yes the Azores are more popular now with more tourism. A rental car is now going from 800 to 1000 euros a week in summer. I am having my cousin look into buying us a car. And just storying it for the next time we go back.. good luck guys.🥰
really the best part of the video was the ''why we have to leave'' part. i was in portugal last fall for 3 months, just traveling alone and after that i have lost the urge to travel because making accomodations was so difficult because of online reservations and people booking so far in advance. it is actually worse now, so It was informative to see how it is affecting you and other people. you guys are really adaptable and positive and life will continue to be good for you . !
Hello Lauza and Michael that's the prettiest green garden I never seen so short but beautiful I love your video I give you 20 hearts ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Many beautiful places are on private property. Hence the expense. We were there in September of 2022 and we felt it was all a bargain in the grand scheme. We are moving there in 2024. Stayed at the Octant Hotel in Furnas. The restaurant, excellent!!
You two have very good English. As an American I really appreciate that a lot. As of now I don't even speak Portuguese but mainly French, some Spanish. Very good video!
I loved all your vlog in the island of São Miguel it was very instructive, we are going in end of July for one week and I would like to know the top activity not to miss can you tell me yours? Thanks ❤
The word I believe is "peculiar", not the same, but at the end of July I'm flying to Switzerland, usually I would get a direct flight from the UK no problem, as it were now I have to fly to Amsterdam and then connect to Zurich, everybody is flying this days, crazy! by the way! I will be in OUR Madeira from July the 28th until August the 7th, if you're there we might meet for a coffee, lunch, I would love that, because I really love the way you two are, marvellous couple, just the type of people I like to meet in my life time.
What are you finding they want for a long term rental, is that 6 months or are they looking for a full year! Again love your videos and thank you for all your hard work!
The reason some of these hikes and gardens are paid is because they are private property and not public property. Some of them belong to families for hundreds of years that now decided to invest and make profit out of them with the growth in tourism in the islands. The Terra Nostra Park belongs to the hotel and the reason it is only open for 6h is so for the rest of the day it is exclusively accessed by the clients of the hotel. Is 10 euros expensive? I think so too, I think these private hikes and private businesses have been exploiting the growth as much as they can making these place even unaffordable for the locals. On under hand the places that are under the managed of the gov are usually free and if taxed they are cheap, like the Caldeira Velha or the Lagoa das Furnas.
That's the american influence on Azores. To think that us in Madeira are for years trying to put a tax on some of the hikes and people don't accept the idea, even Cabo girão that now is paid but only for foreigners it's strange.
On the Azores we rented long term, and on Madeira we used to rent only for weekends. This depends mainly on having a car rental nearby (in walking distance) or not.

Just stunning to see those lovely gardens, reminds me of the Cotswolds in UK or Holland
Beautiful video . Thank you for sharing

Yes, that’s the word. We should be in Madeira at that time. We’d love to meet! Let’s arrange via IG DM 🙏

Thanks for you input, very interesting

How about ilha das flores?
How about renting a house, did you look?
We tried but couldn’t find anything. A few month is too long for short term and too short for long term.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Do you rent a car by day or long term when you are in Azores and Madeira?
On the Azores we rented long term, and on Madeira we used to rent only for weekends. This depends mainly on having a car rental nearby (in walking distance) or not.
What about Porto or Pico?
We talked about that we’d love to explore the other islands in the Azores but why we can’t this time, right?
Hi lauza the reason you have to pay 10 euros to grena Park is because that doesn't belong to the government it was bought by a Russian
👍🌹😉
