"At which point did it go from being a GM Quel to being a Gundam?" The way I see it, there are two answers to this question: an "on paper" answer, and a "inner mechanics" answer. The "on paper" answer, would be that the Hazel II became an official Gundam when its name and model number were changed from RGM-79Q GM Quel Hazel Reserve Unit to RX-121-2 Gundam TR-1 [Hazel II]. This was when the "Little GM Quel that could" was officially rolled out of storage and pushed into service. The "inner mechanics" answer, then, is that the Hazel II became a full-fledged Gundam when it was further redesigned into the RX-121-3C Gundam TR-1 [Haze'n-thlay]. By this point, few, if any, of the parts of the original GM Quel Hazel Reserve Unit remained, being mostly parts derived from, or intended for use by, the Gundams TR-1 and TR-6. The other incarnations between these two points, then, are a gradual phasing out of specific components, gradually making the Hazel II less of a GM Quel, and more of a Gundam. @@acidous, Unicorn Era Banshee disagrees..... Technically, Booster Propellant detonating isn't LETHAL of a MS so long the cockpit area hasn't become exposed, it's rsther that because Shields for MS are SUCH EXPENDABLE equipment by design that both sides wanted SOMETHING else to validate the use of so many Materials to mass produce a piece of MS standard gear that gets deatroyed every single battle
Rocket fuel is rather fine imo, as level of damage would depend a lot more about the AMOUNT in the fuel tank. Stupid is to have the shields be equiped with AMS ROCKETS such as the Revil Ship Jengans, since it's a DEDICATED MS combat weapon, having it detonate FAR too close the MS torso is the most dangerous aspect as the shield has to take it into account when being designed and it raises far more issues (i.e: it has to have a Blow out zone to redirect the explosion if it gets hit, this means some sectors are less armored and become weakspots, further making the purpose of having such a Shield useless)
Can we get more about the Titans Test Team? Specifically the characters and what their ultimate fates were? I love the weirdnes of the Quel/Hazel "Gundam" it feels like hat happened to late years WW2 german designs.
Gundams are usually combat ready testbed machines, usually being the most powerful machine of its time of creation but still practical enough to participate in combat. With other MS usually being scaled down versions of it if a mass production run is made from its designs. With that said, it became a true Gundam unit when it was upgraded into the Advanced Hazel.
That is one top Quelity Gundam. For my money, it became a Gundam the minute they started designating it as such. In UC especially, there's general traits that we can look at that are usually shared by Gundams, but those traits aren't universally shared by all of them.

Yes this really clears out some of AoZ design madness 😂👍👍 awesome!
Gundam TR-1 [Hazel II], Gundam's version of 'but wait there's more'.
Man, love all of the Watership Down references in the names.
3:01 notice the nail polish that this guy clearly used on his fingers
More TTT/Black Otter Team videos!
My MG Hazel Reserve Unit kept the white forearms and the cheeks of the Hazel II Early Type (I needed the Tri-Booster for something else).
Been waiting for a vid like this! Make a development summary history on all the "TR" AoZ mobile suits!! PLS!
So is this like... the Gundam of Theseus thought experiment?
Fascinating look as always, I do enjoy how mental some of these development histories get.
My theory gundam mark2 was design after gm quel(gundam head) with proper engineering as a true gundam, we can all agree gundam mark2 did hold on long in wars. even its was left behind in technology competition in the middle of gryps conflict, but it still be able to fight until the axis war and continue being used by a beam magnum addicted pilot after 2nd neo zeon war.
Got dame, i never knew the hazel was so wild, lol
My question about the shield booster is: *why tf would you put rocket propellant in something that’s supposed to get hit all the time*
I guess they've learned that hard way during testing, so they didn't replicate this mistake in any mass produced suit ever again :P
I think I just found my Favorite Gundam😍😍
"I saw the GUNDAM in the QUELL and carved until I set him free"
No surprise Huckebeins were take out of SRW OG series, they look about the same as this units
So that IS true after all? Shame, the Huckebein was a badass design, especially the Mk-III.
I would say it became a Gundam about at the point that the Titans lost their damn minds and slapped Psycho "Gundam" arms on it... Yeah about then XD
This guy have so many forms that he might as well be a modern Super Sentai Mech.
That is one top Quelity Gundam. For my money, it became a Gundam the minute they started designating it as such. In UC especially, there's general traits that we can look at that are usually shared by Gundams, but those traits aren't universally shared by all of them.
Anybody else confused by how these parts are fit together and think that the Primrose and other support fighters need a separate development video?
My mind blown when I realize the advanced Hazel is just one big Barzam reference.
