I'm wary of things that claim to be waterproof without plastic. Often, the waterproofing is pfas chemicals, which are not compostable and build up in living things without breaking down, reaching toxic levels over time.
I CACKLED at the editing where you say "Part of me says cut the pipe, but that seems crazy" and immediately cuts to cutting the pipe. Amazing. Genius. I love this series so much you have no idea. Your can-do attitude, jumping in and going for it... I love it. One day I hope to have enough executive functioning to tackle stuff like that!
🙋🏼♀️ Hello Ariel, I’m a 72 year old woman living in middle Tennessee. I recently found your RUclips channel and I’m so glad I did. I’m enjoying watching your post cleaning up your amazing house. I’m writing to explain the floors painted on the edges and not in the middle. Back in the 1800’s people had either a loose laid linoleum or an area rug that typically didn’t go to wall to wall so the area not covered was painted. My great grandparents victorian home floors were painted like that. They used a glossy dark burgundy paint and it was beautiful. Take care and continue to have a good time bringing the old girl back to life! Fran
I LOVE that you aren't afraid to jump in - like Miss Frizzle, “Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!” Learning alongside you is so fun and inspiring! ☺
Shopping list for future Ariel: 1. Hard Hat 2. Reciprocating Saw 3. Oscillating Tool You are doing a great job! The bathroom will look great when you finish!
And a thick tarp! Throwing the wood down onto something that can then be folded up/dragged/tossed onto the truck bed rather than moving each piece twice ❤❤❤
“Gentle renovating” Now THAT is a movement I can get behind 😊 I adore that you type out your to do list with a typewriter on cute paper. Making as much of the process aesthetically pleasing as possible is definitely the move.
I felt silly bying a pad with to do list printed on it and a pretty background but it really made a difference to my relationship with to do lists. I actually make use of them now instead of being frustrated with the practice.
all the praise for the editing is deserved but i also love the setting for the sponsor 😂 what a fantastic shot setting with a bathtub in the snow! woo progress!!
I love hearing your joy and mirth on your channel. When you're just tickled to death with yourself like with the mini truck, or when something bad happens and you laugh like being sprayed with water in the kitchen, your spirit is so beautiful
Next time you’re at the hardware store get an electrical power sniffer. It has a pointy end that if you bring it next to a live wire it sounds. I’m here to tell you that you can absorb electricity. I’ve done it twice. Once when I was a kid. Once when I thought I had the right circuit off..nope. 😂 It feels like intense shaking inside your own wiring..😂 Love your passion!
Oh yes, good idea! And I know that sensation...I used to live in a ghetto apartment and the rich slumlord (slumlady) had never upgraded the electrical. The fuse box was NOT grounded so changing fuses was terrifying. I had to somehow pull and replace the fuse without touching the box. One time I screwed up and the shock knocked me off the chair I was standing on. Fun times.....
You saying “I think these closets were added on when some fireplaces were removed a long time ago” at 11:46 made me SO happy lol. I mentioned this theory in the comments of the secret room in the bathroom video and people disagreed 😅 BUT I HAVE BEEN VINDICATED
She agrees with you =/= an OG builder or civil ordnance floor plan saying she is correct and thus both of you being vindicated. It's certainly a highly plausible explanation though.
@@mnomadvfx yes, obviously. Old studs like that are super worth keeping, particularly from houses of that age. They tend to be old growth and really strong, so you can do all kinds of things with them, including really nice looking cabinet doors and such. I just found out that Shannon, of the channel Shannon Makes, bought an old house to reno in NS last summer! I think it would be so cool if you two did a collab. I can’t tell you how thankful I am that you show this online. I have no desire to remodel. But I’m in a huge new shift that feels new and overwhelming. Watching you break this down and do new things gives me a lot of hope for my personal “secret room”. Thank you for your gift.
Every time I see that water-in-the-face kitchen video, I do the same thing...hold my breath until you start cracking up, and then I do the same. By the way, if you have a fireplace, those lathes make THE BEST kindling.

Glad none of that was load bearing, but I can't see why it would have been unless they had to replace a rafter when they installed that closet.
as someone who works thw plumbing department, cutting the pipe only seems crazy to homeowners. it's a 50/50 shot whether you can get it out manually or if you just have to cut it out and adapt. you did great!
I love whimsy and call me crazy but I just had this vision of leaving the sink right where it is but making it look like a bird bath or fountain. Don’t know if it would be possible to do something like that and it remain functional as a sink but wouldn’t it be cool?! It was that beautiful wallpaper that you have that looks like a garden that made me think how lovely it would be to spend time bathing in a space that felt not like a bathroom but part of nature. Anyhoo, wild idea but it would be soooooo fun! Good luck on the project and I look forward to seeing what you do with it! I love your style so I’m sure it’ll be beautiful!

as someone who works thw plumbing department, cutting the pipe only seems crazy to homeowners. it's a 50/50 shot whether you can get it out manually or if you just have to cut it out and adapt. you did great!
Love to hear this 😅
7:45 “part of me is like let’s just cut the pipe but that seems crazy” the cut has me in tears 😭🤣
That transition at 7:45 was perfect; great progress!
Ariel, I am so impressed with how your knowledge, patience, confidence and physical strength have grown on this journey!
Most people have a fancy set for advertising products for their sponsors but you are totally fantastic and fun just using the old bathtub out in your snowy yard. I loved and enjoyed watching you and look forward to the next video. ❤😅
Thank you so much for the update! You’re doing great 🎉😊
You are an adorable and capable woman👏👏👏 i love watching you work on your home!
Love the washing machine water episode, your laugh was a delight
Great job!!
As someone that's renovated houses and plumbing, I'm in complete awe of what you're able to accomplish. 10/10. Keep at it!
Defenestration! 😂 Love that word, and the act is kinda fun.
Working smarter, not harder 🙌
What a difference already...
Thanks for sharing, it helps me feel less worried about doing my own bathroom.
Looking forward to the next update 🕊🇬🇧
I grew up helping my parents renovate our house and we also just chucked the demolition mess from upstairs out the window lol. Cleaning it up off the lawn was easier than packing it through the house. Watching you take off the lathe and plaster was also such a blast to the past. It's a lot of work, but demo is weirdly satisfyingXD
YESSSSSS BATHROOM UPDAAAAATE
"gentle renovating" I needed to hear this today.
A fantastic amount of progress! I'm so excited to see this whole bathroom project get going!
How exciting! Glad to see you are taking it in chunks, makes it so much easier.
