I too quit instagram & now a month later I've read so many library books, started five new oil paintings (I've been painting just one for two years now, because I couldn't concentrate on it) and have tried out sports I've never done before and it feels SO GOOD! I never even noticed how noisy my mind was & now it's so silent, so calm. Best things I've done in years. Congratulations Ariel!
Diamond tipping over advice: Mine did that constantly. I brought it back to Birks and they suggested adding two little balls of platinum to the band. They are inside the band, on the underside of my finger, so no one can see them. Because there are two bumps about half a centimetre apart it stops the ring from tipping, and they take up some of the extra space. Congratulations!
I love engagement stories ! I knew I was getting my grandmothers rings so it was just a matter of time. We got engaged at my favorite seafood restaurant and both our families were there which wasn’t unusual because we would go to dinner with both our parents and siblings often. But I had an inkling because my husband literally NEVER wears khakis he’s always in casual shorts and when we showed up to dinner he was wearing khakis and I was like why are you wearing khakis and then all throughout dinner he wouldn’t talk to me which I picked up on and he proposed at the end of dinner so he was nervous the whole time lol
The Bookshop on the Corner is a very pleasant read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was sad to turn the last age. I, too, highly recommend it to Ariel. Don't worry about the trilogy aspect. It is FINE as a stand alone. I only read it for itself. If I stumble across cheap, used copies of the other 2 or the local library gets them, I'll read them. But, the first book is fine just as a thing on its own.
I quit instagram too (for the 2ish time) and i learned from the firsts time that i would transfer the scrolling to pinterest or youtube so i needed to uninstall both instagram and pinterest. What i also learned is that its not about never using the apps anymore, but about having a better moment/way to do it, so i just open it once in a while in my computer now. It does feels like social media has become some sort of a matrix, its scary. Ps: congratulations on the engagement, A!! Lots of happinness and love for you!
For you guys or for anyone who wants to replace their wardrobe - big sister swap is such a great way to do it - you just send in whatever you no longer want and then fill out a detailed survey about what you would like sent back INCLUDING a pinterest board of your ideas which is so cool - then they send you back a bunch of second hand stuff and you can send back anything you don’t want and they try again. It’s really cool and sustainable. It’s a small company so takes a while to get the clothes but for me that made it so much more exciting
Congratulations Ariel on your engagement! That is literally so exciting and we all hope that everything goes well in the future! As for a side note - I am so happy to hear Raeleen's review on If We Were Villains. Everyone that I've come across online has a lot of differing opinions with all of the current popular Dark Academia Books (The Secret History, If We Were Villains, Babbel or the Necessity of Violence) and I haven't come across one that matches with my book friendship group until this episode.
🎉🎉Congrats! Wait till summer on the sizing. Get the silicone ring sizers to use in the winter. It doesn't damage the ring. And 100% on the band keeping the stone more centered.
Congratulations Ariel!! I've been watching you consistently for 5 years and have been with the podcast since the beginning! (It's the only podcast I listen to) I feel weird being so invested in a stranger's life but I was immediately running over to my boyfriend yelling "Ariel got ENGAGED!" and he knows exactly who I mean despite not reading books or watching Booktube 😂
Wow! Congratulations! This is EPIC! I went to a bookstore the other day and thought of Ariel and Conner, because i saw a book on one of the endcaps called The Bookbinder's Guide to Love. Now this episode feels like it's all about...love and bookbinding. Great episode! One of the best! So exciting!!
I have a pretty intense schedule at the moment, I'm training to be a counsellor (on a fast track course that has all the same assignments as the normal course but i only have half the time to do it in) part time while working full time, plus a 4 hour a week side gig. On a Monday, when I've been out of the house since 7am and I get in at 9:45pm absolutely wired from class, I always look forward to books unbound to bring me down to earth and calm me so I can go to sleep and do the whole thing again tomorrow
Guys, I tracked down an obscure English candy store in Prague AND found biscuit tea there! Never heard of it before you started mentioning it, so I got super curious hahaha. Now every time I brew a cup I think about Ariel in her cozy little Canadian house 🧡
okay, first CONGRATULATIONS ARIEL, so so happy for youuu 😀🥰🥰 yes, the stone will keep tipping over, totally natural. and it'll feel much bigger and loser in the winter months, I'd say wait a bit to see if you want to resize it! And also, I'd love to thank you girls so much for sharing that there's the Libby app for laptop?! And that's how you can put the ebooks on the kobo?! That's a game changer, thank you SO SO much
Ohoh congratulations! Oh and I've read the bookshop on the corner! I remember it being very cozy and leaving a warm feeling behind. I actually didn't know it was a series! So maybe it also works as a standalone?
I’m moving from the East Coast to the West Coast at the end of the month. The plan was to go across the US with just me, my car, my dog, my cat, and all your recent podcasts I have been using all my self-control not to listen to yet. I couldn’t help myself with this one! Congratulations!!
Two things! 1- I have also quit Instagram/social media and then found myself scrolling randomly on my phone. App-blocking apps help, but something that's been super helpful has been putting a rubber band over my phone screen! It doesn't make it unusable but creates just enough of a barrier that scrolling isn't easy and I don't reach for it as often. 2 - you can definitely read Bookshop on the Corner as a standalone! It's a very cute romance.
Every engagement has its story the quirkier the easier to remember the details and laugh at and embellish… every time you think about it or retell the story
OMG!! CONGRATULATIONS ARIEL AND CONNOR! Ariel was truely shining and radiating love and happiness this episode, it was so cute to see! Thank you for sharing this momemt with us, i had a big smile on my face the whole time! Wishing all the joy in the world to the both of you!
Raeleen is going to be sick of peach by the time she actually dyes her hair!! I'd love to try the peach syrup in tea. Also I LOVE engagement stories! I got engaged on a dock as well and the transfer of ring box to finger was terrifying!!!
CONGRATS ARIEL! Totally get it about keeping the anniversary date! My partner and I were together for 10 years, got engaged on our 10th anniversary (December 19th), and are getting married on December 19th after 12 years of being together.
Congratulations on your engagement, I am so happy for you! ❤ PS: I had mediocre steak after getting engaged, I would have preferred your Mac’n’Cheese feast 😂
Oh my that's so weird, I was literally watching the last episode thinking I wonder when or whether you two would be getting engaged!!! So cute! Congrats to you both
Yaaay finally I can watch my all time favorite podcast🎉 Congratulations Ariel! I also have interest for book binding but have no experience yet. Yesterday I bought the 4th,5th, and the 6th book of the Game of Thrones series, The Justification of Women's Rights, The Second Sex, Letters of Jane Austen, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, She Came To Stay, Vampire by Polidori, Poor Things and thanks to Ariel, I bought Trial by Kafka! I am pretty excited for alllll of themmmmmm yay
congratulations!! btw if you're still looking for westerns, i just read lone women by victor lavalle and its a different take on a western than im used to and it might just convince me to love the genre too! its part western part horror and about a woman in 1915 who escapes her home to be a homesteader in montana, but she's bringing along a heavy trunk with a secret inside. it's suspenseful and tense and an interesting look into a type of woman's life that isn't usually explored!
Ella Minnow Pea and letters ... have you read 'The Wonderful O,' by James Thurber? A town deprived of the use of O and how they got it back. If you enjoy this he also wrote 'The 13 Clocks' and many other wryly humorous books and short stories.
Omg that's so exciting! Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉💖💖💖 Lunenburg is so beautiful, I love visiting there! And what a great place to get engaged in!❤ Also I'm not brave enough to look at my screen time, I just don't want to know😅
what a lovely episode!! amazing news, amazing book hauling and reviewing!! i'm waiting for the day Raeleen shows up with peach headphones for the pod now 😂 thank you again for the World of Books rec, i've already ordered some more!! love this little community you guys have gathered 😊
Thank you for sharing you happy news. I never married, but was asked 2 and a half times. One was an actual Prince, but l said no as l didn't love him, but totally ruined the "when will my prince take me away from all this?". "oh yeah, one asked, l refused, damn". Though in my defense, l didn't believe he was a prince (and heir), and only found out it was true when he brother appeared on a TV programme and pronounced he was second in line to the king (not of England). True story. P. S just editing my first book, a crime thriller set in the world of thirties jazz. Hope one day you will be reviewing it ❤ that would be the cherry on the cake 🍰
Congratulations, Ariel, that's wonderful! I wish you lots of happiness! I enjoyed the three reviews of the books you've read; I Who Have Never Known Men has been on my radar for a while, it sounds very interesting.
passport photos are valid for 6 months, and you can renew your passport as early as one year prior to its actual expiration date :) hope this helps~ and congrat on the engagement🎉
A second note, my partner just this morning deactivated Instagram and after hearing you both mention the positives behind stepping away, I myself have just this second uninstalled. Going forth I'll only use it on my laptop as a way to make posting more and intentional act. I'm 95% less like to use it on the computer which makes me happy to have made the change after thinking about for a long time. Feeling very inspired by you both and can't wait for you to go peach fuzz. Love Nessa @killertomes x
Yay that was me who suggested calling the bookmobile Mosscap. You could also call it the Librariel - a combo of library and Ariel.
CONGRATULATIONS ARIEL 🎉🎉🎉 SO HAPPY FOR YOU ❤❤❤
I NEVER CLICKED SO DAMN FAST
Same 🎉🎉🎉
me too!!!! congrats ariel 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗

Of course Conor proposed to her! Ariel has her own book truck!📚🛻Who wouldn’t want to be with a woman like this forever?😃
Hahahhaha
Mac & Cheese with pulled pork is the epitome of romance. Congratulations!!!
I agree, some of my favourite foods!
AAHHHHH I AM SO EXCITED! DROPPED EVERYTHING TO WATCH THIS. CONGRATS!!!!!!

"Why re you wearing khakis" is so funny to me hahahah I LOVE IT

I loved The Bookshop on the Corner! Not a fan of her other books though so yeah, I agree, recommend as a standalone.
Congratulations!!! I’m so happy for you and your family!

The nice outfit "none of that matters" moment made me tear up! That's so sweeeeeet!

Congradulations Ariel! Your videos have been a great comfort throughout the years. I wish you a very beautiful marriage with your fiancé.
Guys, I tracked down an obscure English candy store in Prague AND found biscuit tea there! Never heard of it before you started mentioning it, so I got super curious hahaha. Now every time I brew a cup I think about Ariel in her cozy little Canadian house 🧡
Demeter makes a peach perfume.
Bath & Body works also comes out with peach stuff during the spring/summer season.

I let out a little scream of joy when I read the title!! Congratulations, Ariel!
Every engagement has its story the quirkier the easier to remember the details and laugh at and embellish… every time you think about it or retell the story
This made me so so so happy! I have followed you for a little over five years so fun to see you reach this next milestone! Congrats!!!
There are silicone coils you can buy... wrap a section around the bottom of the ring to make it more snug and keep the top-heavy stone upright.
OMG!! CONGRATULATIONS ARIEL AND CONNOR! Ariel was truely shining and radiating love and happiness this episode, it was so cute to see! Thank you for sharing this momemt with us, i had a big smile on my face the whole time! Wishing all the joy in the world to the both of you!
