Repainting the whole wall is probably the simplest solution, and that will allow it to stay even throughout the years. If sunbleaching is the culprit, you'll just end up with two different colours again in a few years if you try to match the current colour. Also, if you usually have a lamp on your nightstand in addition to the wall light, that can also have affected the colour of the wall.
I think she is painting the whole wall -just a little bit at a time😂
😅
Yes, some colors don't blend well and a repainting of the whole wall is necessary..
i think she could color match it pretty easy, just add some yellow, red, and black. also feathering/blending the edges with a sponge or dry brush would help
Yes we had that too, you need to paint the whole wall again… so annoying but best way
Most content creators "Ready for Spring" videos: Cut flowers, New Wreath on Door. Ariel's "Ready for Spring" video: Change out Diorama in Dining Room Wall, lol! This is why we LOVE you!! Happy Spring!
🙈🙈🙈
I feel like the mini room could have it's own instagram. Followers could submit art and stories about the people who live in the little room.
My father in law built an entire western scene in his wall box . He had a stagecoach and horses and prairie weed plants.
Are wall boxes a thing? I thought that was just Ariel
Me and your father in law are kindred spirits, clearly
@@sarahhardtbern in my town, we have a few on the outside of buildings, at floor level. Most of them are staged as mouse homes, so cute!
@@gulplastgaffelI just bought a vacation house and I have been thinking about building a mouse house in one of the guest rooms, I think that would be so fun.
Thank you for showing PPE and techniques to cut down on dust! Many DIY creators don't show that part and many viewers use videos as tutorials. This spreads good info on protection, and I know it's cumbersome! Can't wait to see how the bathroom changes!
That drives my wife crazy!! She’s like… you’re gonna just?? Breathe in that resin?? What??
2 videos in one week? you are spoiling us :)
Right?! 😅❤
You can try and try and try… or you can just repaint the wall. I’m afraid that may be the quickest solution
Love these videos where you tackle miscellaneous projects. Really show the real life.
We all procrastinate and delay the last part of a task.
Love ur videos!!
Thanks so much for your nice comment!! ♥️
I think some little fake windows and curtains would be so sweet in your mini room. You could use photographs or art behind the window frames to look like a view out of the window 😊🪟
A mini room inside her mini room.
Okay, hear me out ... stained glass front door project at some point? 👀👀💜
I also think new stained glass would be better. Glass is made a lot stronger and better nowadays and that old glass seems cracked and freaks me out 😬 I would have thrown it all out if it were me because glass breaking is a huge phobia of mine. I hate cleaning it and hearing it break. And stained glass from a local artist would be so pretty and meaningful! Like the duck art from the other video!
We need a compilation of ALL shadowbox rooms!
That would be such a delightful video. I loved the birdhouse video and can easily imagine the same vibes.
With paint, not only does it change in the sun, but not every tin of the same colour will be exactly the same shade. The labels on the tins often advise mixing two tins together if you need multiples to avoid colour differences. I've never bothered and almost always have got away with it, except in one room where I switched to a new tin after cutting in the second coat. You can really really see it...
yeah the paint can might just be slightly different, the easiest solutions i think would be blending the edges with a sponge, mixing in some red, yellow, and black to color match, or just repainting the whole wall
I would just paint the one wall, I don't think it will be noticeable to the other walls as there is always a slight shade difference due to the light direction. You will save time and headache trying to colour-match exactly. Either that or a nice wallpaper? :D
Okay can we get a video compiling all of your mom's ingenious tips and tricks? She has all the hacks!
Repainting that wall is your best solution. Paint colours change/fade over the years. You'll NEVER match it 100%. You have a full can...take it to your local paint store or hardware store and ask them to shake it up for you in the machine. Then paint just that wall.
LOVE your mini shadow box 💜
With the miniature room, the next time you swap it out AS A FELLOW CANADIAN I demand a Friendly Giant montage.
Brilliant idea.
Reading this I instantly recalled the Friendly Giant theme music with harp and flute. 🎶
And I'll call Rusty.😀
Look way up
I used a paint color that took about two weeks to “cure” to the actual color. I was pretty panicked when the initial coats were NOT right. I paused for a few days to research new colors and in that time I noticed the paint color deepened and changed. I waited and two weeks later it was exactly what I wanted. Maybe you just need to let the paint cure.
Edit to add: I wonder if it got too cold over the winter and maybe that messed up the paint. 🤷♀️
At 6:47, I love the size of the coffee mug compared to the scale of the room-VERY ACCURATE! 😂😅🤣😵💫😬😳🤭
I thought the same thing! I loved the giant mug.
Wouldn't it be sick if the mini room in the wall had a light (perhaps an led that could change color temperature) hanging in the middle!!
Or a false window with a light behind it to mimic natural light.
I feel like the doily for the mini room could also make a beautiful little ''rug'' moment in there 😍
Your mom is right. Paint ages. Also gloss paint goes cream with age. If you use white satin for your woodwork, not only is it water based and brushes wash out with water, but the colour stays white, and looks classier.
god I love the typewriter to do list segment.. every time Ariel says she has to make a list, I’m always 😍ing at the individual typewriter clicks.. and of course the mini room box is just precious and I’m so obsessed. Love that for you, Ariel.
I’m just obsessed with the excitement, creativity, and commitment to the tiny room decorating 😂 it really is the little things
These videos inspire me to tackle all the small projects I’ve been putting off
Hear me out- what your mini room needs is a wallpaper accent wall. You could make it removable by just gluing the wallpaper to some cardboard the right size, then take that out!
And for “wallpaper” you could use nice printed patterns at the right scale
Or even order in wallpaper samples! They are fairly cheap if not for free. 💕
@@lifexfashionxbeauty the problem with samples would only be that the scale will be off- there are dollhouse wallpapers available!
you could always turn the white patch in your bedroom into a cloud mural :)
We’re getting spoileddddd!! Another video!! Thank you Ariellll!!😭🧡
as someone who always delays little tasks until they feel like big overwhelming tasks, i love these and especially love the typed up to do list! nothing better than physically crossing something off your list. enjoy your trip! :)
Hide it!! 😂 Put a big plant there, it'll look great 💜
As a painter I clean my brushes with cooking oil, margerine or vaseline: rub it on and let it sit a while, then wash it off with dish soap. This also works for adhesive residue as well as paint. Also I use it to wash my hands instead of putting turpentine on my skin. It might save you from having to use a scraper in the future.
The paint problem is called flashing, it often happens when you touch up paint. Did you paint the wall with a brush or roller before? Because it’s usually a texture change and if you used a roller and then touched up with a brush it can look different. You could try feathering out the paint at the edges to blend it more or maybe thinning the paint slightly. The best result would come from repainting the whole wall though unfortunately
yeah softening the transition could really make it harder to notice, maybe blending it with a sponge or something
Feather it in! I came here looking for this comment! Use just a little paint on your brush. Almost dry, and feather in the existing paint so you don't have a line.
I love how much joy the miniatures bring you! I'm the same way with my trinkets lol
I’m sixty five years old and I love my dollhouse!🤭
Loving the mini room! I want to go knock several holes into my walls now!
About the wall: How many coats did you do of the white originally? Maybe the previous wallcolour was shining through a bit and adding another layer covered that up? But I agree with the comments that just painting the whole wall seems like the easiest way to solve this, other than just living with a slightly whiter patch
yeah painting the whole wall is simple, also just mixing up a small amount of paint that matches the wall color by adding yellow, red, and black. just depends on which sounds more fun lol
If you rolled the paint on the bedroom wall originally; you may be seeing a texture difference more than a color difference. I'd try a roller being careful to feather it out so you don't end up with roller lines
Yes! This is what I was thinking too!
I've had the same problem with the paint...I think your mom is right that the colors tend to age. Also, I think it's pretty common that two cans of the same pale, subtle shade would be slightly different because just a little pigment in the mix makes a big difference. Someone below said to just repaint that one wall, and I agree--you probably won't notice the shade difference if it changes at a corner!
Thank you so much for being realistic with your projects. The honesty about the plaster in the bathroom made me feel so much better about some of my own projects that don't get done right away. I also love the little mini room! So fun!
The paint can could also be bad, I would test paint a patch somewhere else and see may just need a new batch or proper mix
Haven’t even watched the video yet but seeing it uploaded made me so happy. I don’t know how Ariel does it, her videos are so therapeutic. The longer the better is my preference! 😅 I just love her personality and how she adapts to whatever situation. It makes my own anxieties about life go away. Thank you, Ariel!
This was so satisfying! I was doing spring chores but got tired and needed to sit down for a rest - watching you work was just the ticket to keep me motivated for my next task.
2 videos in 3 days?? We are blessed!! Your video’s always bring a smile to me :).
Sometimes washing the walls helps get an accurate sense of whether dust particles have stuck to the wall making it slightly discolored
My favorite part of the Indianapolis Children's Museum was always the dollhouses.
Man I need more videos with the tiny room! I grinned the whole way through you pulled out these tiny furniture and when you placed them inside I was squealing 😅😅😅😅
Another video! I logged in HOPING you'd uploaded, what a treat!
I think I am going to break out my old 1920s Smith Corona and start typing up my To Do lists. Your list looks so official, and isn't it fun to cross off those items! It might be fun to save them in a box and look at them once in a while to realize how much you have accomplished.
Goo Gone and similar products are great for removing all sorts of stickers and adhesives. Sorry about the Vanilla Kiss touch-up issue! Like others, I suspect you best bet, sadly, is to repaint the wall.
ariel, it would be so great if you do a somewhat behind the scenes, where you talk to your plomer for example and discuss the options, i think it would give all of us an idea of how these renovations and new installations work 😅
okay ariel hear me out: mini shadowbox rooms modeled after your favorite books. a true grit inspired one, an orwell inspired one, a sheets inspired one (a little laundromat with a ghost would be so cute!!) :D
One thing with the wall - you probably should use a roller. You can also take your full paint can to the hardware store and most stores will put it on the paint mixer for free.
The issue you had in your room with the paint not matching has happened to me a few times. It's very frustrating! I figured it was because after a while the sun changes the wall color but I've noticed it usually happens where I've spackled. 🤷🏻♀️
Oh interesting. Maybe more primer could help? Or some type of sealant over the spackle?
I think if you only paint the slanted part of the wall in the desired white color, it would deceive the eye that the entire wall is one white color since the slanted part also has natural shadowing from being slanted. Hope this can help!
Paint will change over time! I usually just repaint whole walls rather than spot paint. The sun can change the colour. Also dirt and dust in the air can grey the paint. Paint will also just naturally fade over time.
Regarding the bedroom wall: Most wall colors are water soluble after they have dried. If you have a little nick in the wall you can go over it with a wet sponge. Maybe you can try to soften the edge of the new patch with a wet sponge? Hope that helps make it less obvious.
Aren’t you in England at the moment for two weeks Ariel? I watched you and Rayleen over on Books Unbound earlier this morning.
I AM!! But the hustle goes on!! Ever a busy bee!! 🐝🐝🐝
Your mom is absolutely right. Sun and just exposure to air ages and changes paint color, even if you have some left over paint in a can, it will be different from what’s on the wall. Sometimes it’s just easier to color match at the hardware store. Or repaint everything.
Ariel maybe you should try sanding the paint first to remove the other colour putting the other over top might make a difference to the colour
The mini room reminds me of Monica's apartment from Friends with the purple and brick.
the best part was "i'm finishing this and then we're going fishin'! hahaha but I love your to do videos. They motivate me to do this lists I have building for myself lol
These random task videos inspire the hell out of me.
I'm from chicago and the thorne rooms are absolutely amazing! they definitely started my love of miniature things. super fun to see you redo the little room
Feather the edges of paint when doing touch ups. Have just a touch of paint on the tip of brush and kinda dry brush the edges up touch up and feathering out. Not a “perfect” fix but usually blends the patch in so you don’t even notice it and you don’t have to paint the whole wall. Has worked for me for years. Hope this helps!
For the wall I don‘t know why it happens, but my solution when repainting a small patch is to really thin out the paint at the edges, go over it with a dryer and dryer brush. This way there are no hard edges and as long as the colour is similar you don’t notice it. Although your patch may be a bit big for that, who knows.
Two videos in one week?!?! I'm so excited!!! You're the best! Love your videos!!
Yay, more Ariel, what a treat ❤
What a relatable video! I really love those "miscellaneous tasks" videos just as much as the ones about the bigger projects, it's somehow really satisfying to watch you get the "little" things done (and gives me a much needed kick in the butt to do the same 😅). I feel your pain regarding the paint, though. Isn't it just great (emphasis mainly on grrrrrrr) when a seemingly short and simple task stubbornly keeps producing more problems? Then again: Three more tasks are done, yayyy! 🎉
Love the new miniature room, it really looks like someone's living there! 😍
My dad used to always say that if you use the same paint at different times it can “oxidize” (i don’t actually know if that’s what causes it) but the pigment does change over time!
I love your little quirks (typing a to do list on a typewriter!). Totally makes sense☺️
Your little laugh brings me so much joy 😊
Aaahhh ariel I love your house reno videos! They're my little happy place, I have been following you since you bought your house! It's so cute ❤much love 🥰
if you ever come back to Chicago, pleeeeeeeease let me take you to my neighborhood bookstore!! it is a magic place, idk how they fit so many books in such a small space
I was suggested to follow you as a fellow canadian girly starting the process of moving from Ontario to Nova Scotia. ❤ Excited to follow along your journey!
How wonderful! I'm in Ontario. Just curious, why Nova Scotia? Do share!
We enjoyed every minute of watching you work. The paint is a bit of a mystery for sure.
You are one of the sweetest and kindest person on youtube but I always see you mostly doing the renos alone except for occasionally seeing your mom and dad helping you out. I know your brother and your boyfriend live in your house or has that changed? If they live with you, do they ever help you with your reno work? If they do live with you, do they also pay you rent so you can invest more money in fixes to your house? If I had adults living in my house (and yes I own my own house) I would charge them rent and ask them to help out with the renovations since they are living in my house.
If you have to clean windows like that in the future, Goo-Gone or Oven Cleaner will make your job so much quicker. Goo-Gone will get rid of most adhesives and paints, and anything Goo-Gone doesn't get off, Oven Cleaner will get rid of. I've had to clean a lot of windows and mirrors, that looked like that, and those two items save me so much time and effort. :)
Did you ever play with AG Mini's? The American Girl Doll company made tiny rooms with magnetic walls, electricity and furniture with reversible textiles. They were so much fun. You'd probably enjoy them too 😁
Your paint: when you redo a patch, use a sparing amount of paint. It looked a little thick on your brush. The most important thing to do is to feather your edges. If you don’t feather the edges on the patch you will always see the patch.
When my grandpa who painted houses professionally would do touch ups he used a microfibre cloth to blend the edges. It might be from the harsh line of the brush 🤷🏻♀️
Your Mom is right about the paint- the existing paint on the walls does age and the shade changes. Sadly I do not know the fix, unless you repaint the whole room 😢
I've never shadow boxes on a wall. I think it's a brilliant idea. I'm going to implement one in my new house. Thank you😊
I know this is probably a long shot, but if you ever find yourself in Kansas City we have a delightful Toy and Miniature Museum that I think you would like!
when she was stirring up that giant bucket of paint I thought it was ice cream lol
i’ve been enjoying your content so much lately i’m so excited to watch you continue this journey
I think it would be cool to lean into the mismatched paint and create some white on white clouds all around the room.
Oh the nostalgia of that wicker duck beside your bed!! I had one on my kitchen table growing up in Manitoba. Love to see one again
To mix paint properly it's best to shake the bin/bottle (actually roll & turn upside down several times really).
The lone sink and hanging lightbulb makes me chuckle in a good way.
Love ur videos. Love completing a check list. U did great with the bathroom and the glass! Have a great time on vacation! ❤❤❤
I can't believe what just happened! 2 Ariel video's in 1 week? YESSSSS!
Next mini groom should be a music room or a library! 😍
Also, my bedroom chair is always a rocker.
Sweet! To suddenly see you in action!! Woohoo! I Love your shovel!
Oh hun, I have totally had to repaint a wall that could not be matched to the can it came out of! I am so sorry! It was such a pain in my neck!
At 19:00?🤷🏼♀️
I'm obsessed with that mini room! I literally audibly gasped when I saw it and immediately announced to my partner that I have to make one somewhere in our house. I may not b able to do one inset in our walls though bc our wall are quite thin here. But a 3d shadow box would look awesome ❤
For the paint, you can cut out a patch of the paint wall (only need an inch by inch piece) and colour match in store :) done this before and it worked for me
I would wash a spot beside the paint spot to see if it's just a little dirty, dust and dirt gets everywhere over time and sometimes you don't see it until a spot is washed.
10:35 my brain craves some fakey windows in the nook…could be fun to design some printable windows that show the room is overlooking a place you want to visit!
I just wanted to say I loved the re-do of the little room, but was thinking that next time you could use the doily like an area rug/carpet. Just an idea.
I LOVE the miniature room update, it may be my fave yet! 💕💕
Yes- DELIGHTFUL is exactly what you are! ❤
You'll likely have to repaint the entire wall. BUT if you're not wanting to do all of that quite yet and want to try something. I like to feather out the edges of the repainted patch areas. So then at least the lines of new vs old paint isnt so harsh and it might be able to blend into one another with the naked eye. Paint the area again, then with the same brush with less paint on it, or barely any, softly brush out the lines so it blends into the old paint. Hope that makes sense, and helps!
