When an unsuitable gentleman appears to court a baron's daughter, it's an older sister's duty to stand in his way. And, of course, not fall in love with him herself.
Matilda Rayment is determined to protect her sister's interest and her family from ruin, which means she must marry off her flirtatious younger sister before the Season ends. When the Rayments cross paths with Oliver Bolton, the nephew of their steward, his interest in Miss Beatrice threatens all Mattie's plans.
For as long as he can remember, Oliver has dreamed of courting Miss Beatrice Rayment, but never dared reach above his station. He hasn't been a gentleman long, but owning his estate - however small in size - gives him access to new rungs on Society's ladder and finally, his chance has come.
It is up to Mattie to steer Oliver away from making an unhappy match with her sister, but before long she finds herself losing her heart to the steward's nephew. Oliver finds he cares less and less about winning Beatrice the more time he spends in Mattie's company. Can such an unsuitable match take place, or will all their plans be ruined?
A historical romance inspired by the film Sabrina, starring Audrey Hepburn.

This story allowed me to reminisce on my past. Freshman year of college my perky, vivacious roommate attracted the attention of the handsome drummer on our floor. He would come every night asking me how to win her heart. Two weeks later, he confessed that he looked forward to our conversions every day - that it was what he thought of during the day. He the realized that he had never gotten to talk with her at all, but he enjoyed talking with me - and he asked me out. The relationship didn't last beyond that first semester, but it's always been a wonderful memory!
Aww! This is a sweet memory. ❤️
STOP THAYS SO CUTE
Ohhhh, this narration is beautiful
I really enjoyed this book! As I am caring for a family member with dementia, I loved the sensitivity to Alzheimer’s symptoms described in this story, & how they handled it with such grace. I also enjoyed the process of Oliver realizing his love for the right person for him. Very well written! The narrator did a splendid job as well.
Thank you for your kind comment. I hope your family member can feel the love and care you give them. It's an incredibly sensitive topic, and it is one I have watched loved ones go through. *hugs*
Thank you Sally & Vicki-Jo for uploading & narrating!!! am listening now & am exceedingly excited!!! I love your books Sally!!! ❤❤❤
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you Sally. I'm looking forward to listening! xo
Wonderful to listen to this again, The new narration makes a world of difference. And there's your little pigeon. 🥰
I put that in specifically because you mentioned it!
@@AuthorSallyBritton lol That's so sweet of you! I enjoy seeing all your special little touches
I came back to find this comment because I want you to know the newest video features a hedgehog! ;-)
Oh, how cute! Aren't they just adorable? I think it was in a book of Laura Kinsale's where the heroine carries a hedgehog around in her pocket. ☺ I assume that the video is for your next audio book, because I couldn't find it in this current one. I'll look forward to the new video! I smile when ever I see the pigeon. ☺ I am currently listening to this one and Unexpected Heiress alternately over and over. I wanted something familiar so that I can just awaken for a minute and smile knowing what the scene is. I don't feel like trying to follow a plot line right now. I know that is so weird, but I suspect that the lady who also listens during sleep sometimes does the same thing. 😉
I loved the first edition and I LOVE this new version of it. Sally Britton puts so much thoughtfulness and a deep passion for her characters into every one of her works. Check them out, each of them will give you a good time listening or reading. Thank you ,Sally, for so many hours of exquisit entertainment and thank you, Vicki-Jo ,for your lovely narration. I enjoyed both immensely. ❤🙋🏻♀ Lisa
You are so welcome! 🤗

Excellent. I had liked the other, but a more experienced narrator really adds to the book. Thank you.
What a lovely wholesome story. Oliver is such a nice character and matched with Mattie so perfect even though she never realised. Two lovely people, a perfect match. Great story and great narrator.
Really enjoyed this story, and am glad you expanded and rereleased it. Now I think I'll purchase it! Alzheimer's is so devastating and I've experienced with 2 loved ones, one of which was aware what was happening to him at the beginning. Talking with him about it was heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for leaving a note. :-) I've watched family go through it, too. It's difficult for everyone involved, and it's so difficult to then have people who are less understanding on the edges of the experience.
I started listening to the old one and was not happy with the narrator. I was so very happy to see you say that you’d redone it. I came straight here. The other narrator made me feel anxious. This one is wonderful.
Thank you for your books! I am loving them.
I'm really glad my listeners were honest with me!
Same here, as soon as I saw the new link in the comments of the first edition, I came straight here. I struggled to follow the story with the first narrator. Thank you Sally for the effort, a voice makes the world of difference to understanding and appreciating an audiobook and your books are truly too wonderful to not be understood. ❤
Wonderful story. I particularly liked the narration. All the characters were clearly identifiable, and the male characters weren’t overly done in the attempt to make them sound masculine. Well done!
Great narrator!
Yay! Was about to comment yesterday if a new version would be uploaded 😍
That's perfect timing then!
I'm looking forward to listening, thanks for letting us know!
Delightful. Thank you Sally Britton and VickiJo.
Thankyou so much for new narrator
What a lovely story through and through! The love within their family between mother and father and the sisters, the love that grew for Matty and Oliver, and the instant love for their baby. They did have diseases and conditions back then that they knew very little about. Too many were put into institutions because there was no help or hope for them. Love shines again as you tell of their gentleness and patients with the father. Well thought out. Well done! Narrator was perfect!! Love the pigeon! Thank you!
I'm going to have to keep putting pigeons in now....
Thank you for sharing your wonderful stories!
Glad you like them!
Thank you
And the cover is charming
Thanks, for the updated novella, The unsuitable Suitor 2nd Edition, love it!
Aww, thank you so much!!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I recently came across one of your audiobooks here on RUclips, and am now binge-listening to them!! Oh my gosh!! I love them!! I'm a huge Jane Austen fan, and your books are right up my alley :). You have got amazing writing skills!!! I also love how wholesome they are! While I love romances, many are hard for me to read/watch due to explicit scenes which can activate past traumatic memories for me. Thank you for creating such incredible heart-warming and soul-nourishing content!!
Yay! Thank you! And welcome!!! I write closed-door precisely because there are SO many reasons readers look for it. Trauma is a big one. I am glad you found me! On my main channel page, I've listed several friends' channels with audiobooks, and their content is like mine if you're looking for more!
Yay! Thank you, Sally 💐
You are so welcome!
loved this so much!! the narrator was incredible and the story is so sweet 🥹
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for making this sweet and wonderful story available on audio. This is the second one of your books that I've listened to and thoroughly enjoyed. The narration was so well done. I'm very much looking forward to reading and/or listening to all of your books I can get my hands on.
Wow, thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is my ultimate favorite book of yours. Its simple, quite beauty and gentile storyline are so touching to me.
I think of this little story often and have listened to it many times. I love Mattie so much, and Beatrice too.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful writing with the world.
I'm rarely told this is a favorite! I'm so glad you love it.
Narration is absolute perfection!
Great narration. Easy to listen to and understand. Thank you for sharing your stories. 😊
Thanks for listening!!!
Thank you 😊
Lovely thank you!
I really really loved this one.
Lovely to hear it come to life with new narration! I listened again, with great enjoyment! Ps the Brits don't say "on accident". It's "by accident"...❤❤
Historically, they used both! Early British journals and newspapers confirm it. ❤️
Lovely. Artwork appropriate and beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
🥰🥰LOVE IT!!
Aww why!!!!! Why not posting this first. Still, your books and uploads are appreciated.
Because 💰. Authors are basically small business owners. Everything we do, create, share costs us time and finances.
Yes the narrator can make or break a story ( choose carefully ) mostly well done cheers
Thank you!
I loved it 🥰
I enjoyed this lovely story 😊.
Thank you! 😊
Thank you, am enjoying very much, poor Matilda being so down played by even her Mother, a spinster at 26 🤔
Tell me about it!!! 😅 But her mom was being a bit dramatic. As mothers sometimes are.
Bellissima storia, raccontato con grande gentilezza, amore GRANDE ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Great story❤
Thank you! 🙂
Now that is a true Englishg accent (I am not even a native English speaker). Better narration than the 1st Edition.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Haha Idk why it took me almost 40 minutes to understand this is a second edition with new narration! I was like im sure this sounds familiar 🤔 😂 now to finish the story hehe ❤
I know! That happens to me sometimes, and then I read the description of a video and I'm all... "Oh!" I hope you enjoyed it!
Hi enjoy your books. As a side note to be aware of the Utube audio books find a bigger audience ( poor eye sight people that can no longer “read” or even people that are slightly have difficult reading ) audio books are favoured ( longer more to enjoy ) ( than a “cut down version of a story” like if a book is made into a movie ) cheers
I have lots of great listeners here and on audio platforms and libraries. Thanks!
Beautiful narration and I’m not even in the story 2 mins
She's a very talented voice actor!
ruclips.net/video/xyvYH12imOY/видео.htmlfeature=shared Is this the same book
Yes, but with a better narrator. :-) The last upload had a LOT of complaints. Not only here, but in reviews on retailer sites.
@@AuthorSallyBrittonPlease give lots of hugs and encouragement to the first narrator. It's not as easy as we listeners think. She didn't give a terrible narration and the diction was clear and concise; it's difficult to adopt a different accent consistently.
She is VERY talented. I would certainly work with her again for a contemporary or American romance!
How many times do you need to remind us of the necessity of Beatrice to marry well; why Oliver was asking her out and ECT,ECT,ECT.
Keep in mind a lot of people start and stop books, so some things are reiterated for those who are coming back from reading breaks. From a writing perspective, this is also called "reaffirming the stakes."
And...y'know...this is really not very polite considering you're getting a lovely, professionally narrated, professionally edited novella, completely for free on RUclips.
Have *you* ever written a book?
Why do the writers act as if 26 is old enough to be a spinster? I know some lovely 26 year olds.
Historical accuracy?
In blunt terms, hard to get the needed 8 or 9 kids out of an older woman before the end of her fertility.
Why 8 or 9? Figure 1 in 3 (1 in 2 for the poor) lived to adulthood. Down to 4 or 5 adult children, and slightly more than half would be girls (2 or 3).
Leaving only 1 or 2 heirs. Which was the almighty concern and point of marrying.
Times in history were not as they are now. Life was nasty, brutal, and short. High society was spared some of the unpleasantness, but not all by far.
That is where the beauty of love and romance is even more important.😊
Precisely this.
It's a REGENCY ROMANCE...
