I hate that he's always gonna be compared to Zeev in the Sharks community because of where they were taken, but I'm really excited for Sam. He seems like the perfect defensive cornerstone to build around, and (knock on wood) one of the more bust-proof guys in the first round.
I think Grier was presented the choice to add a prototypical, bigger defenseman who will be able to manage his own end, move the puck, add some offense, and eat up 22-25 minutes a game in all situations, or add a top-level offensive d-man with respectable size who plays really smart in both ends, but make lack the size to neutralize/cancel opponents along the boards. Grier went with the safer choice. They will look to add their Boyle/Niedermayer/Karlsson style d-man later. Personally, I had Dickinson as my first choice for a total rebuild followed by Buium. I couldn't believe they both fell to the Sharks. I would have been just as happy with Buium.
If you have a chance at a game changing D that can take over shifts with Cale Makar like numbers in college you don’t pass up on that. Zeev was the correct pick. MN lucked out.
I think Shane Wright's exception had less to do with his January 5th birthday and more to do with the fact that he'd played 24 games the prior season and in order to count towards the four season requirement you need 25. While that would only be three seasons, the leagues had agreed previously to count the 2020-21 season for all players despite not playing any games due to Covid.

The floor is insanely high with DIckinson

Future is teal, much love from the other coast as always
After doing your in depth analysis. Was Zeev the correct choice?
No. Just different players
Did JD build himself a little fort?
Something like that.
