🎄Merry (almost) Christmas! Good evening everyone! Happy Sunday to you 🙂 Thank you for joining me for this week’s meals of the week video and I hope you’re all well ☺ Welcome or welcome back!🎄
Regarding the fish supper, I grew up , very poor, in Inverness. A fish supper where I lived was always haddock. There was no choice. Fortunately I love haddock. I’ve lived “Down South” in various parts of England and Cornwall (When in Cornwall, never refer to Cornwall as England - it’s a grave insult to our Celtic brothers and sisters there) for quite a few years now and it still feels odd to have to ask, and usually wait, for haddock at the chippy - or “ The chipper” as we used to call it. The dour Calvinism of my youth means I still don’t celebrate Christmas, but I wish you and yours the happiest of hogmanays and a very prosperous 2024. I believe lowland folk say “Lang may your lum reek” , so lang may yours reek too Cheryl.
Hi Cheryl, I enjoy your cookery videos very much (good basic fare with frequent flourishes of genius!) and would like to make a possible recipe suggestion for you to try out, one that is quick and easy to make, tasty, cheap and filling. Yorkshire pudding with anchovies (serves 1 to 2 people) Ingredients: 95g tin of anchovies (John West or similar) slightly drained Yorkshire mix: 80g plain flour Salt & Pepper to taste 150ml milk 1 large egg Mix the flour, salt and milk in a bowl then add the egg and continue to mix until you have a runny batter with no lumps. Chop the anchovies into pieces about 10mm long and add to the mix, stir well. Put a generous measure of olive oil - enough to coat the bottom of a metal baking tray (about 25cm dia or a similarly sized rectangular tray). Preheat the oven to very hot (230 C) and put the tray in the oven for about 1 minute. Take out the tray and carefully add the yorkshire pudding mix (avoid splashing hot oil). Return tray to the upper shelf in your oven and cook for 25-35 minutes until well risen and browned on the top. Ready to eat as a snack or as side dish with something else Merry Xmas and seasons greetings!
You certainly got more than your fair portion of fish this week! You'll be growing gills soon! 🐟🐟🐟 Merry Christmas to you and Mr Tea and wee Jazzy Jasper.
Merry Christmas, hope you have a lovely day, we’re having roast beef for a change this year. A slice of that lovely Tesco Sicilian Lemon Pie for pudding.
Wishing Cheryl, her family and all of her subscribers a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy, Healthy , Prosperous and Peaceful, New Year. Balls of Doom before Christmas! What are you like ha ha. Love from Liverpool xx.
One more sleep, every one! Hope everyone has a good one (someone local is preparing meals for those who don't have one, so I've offered to help deliver to those who don't have cars or can't drive)
Merry Christmas to you too Linda & God Bless the kind person who is both cooking & providing meals for those in need & to your good self, for volunteering your time, energy & fuel, to help distribute the meals 💗 … the true Spirit of Christmas!🥰🤗 xx Have a good one! ✨💫🎄🎅🏼🦌🛷📯🎁🌟☃️❄️🤶🏻⛸️🎄💫✨
@davidmurphy816 thanks, David, I hope you'll have a happy one as well! This guy seemed to be new to the area. He was definitely new to the application NextDoor, which we use here to find referrals, for plumbers, electricians, handyman, etc. And sadly, it does turn into something like Facebook sometimes, as well. So he posted it, and I private messaged him and volunteered for some of the people who were saying they didn't have cars. I haven't heard back from him. So I guess I just have to show up at 4 o'clock and see. It turns out that he's opening a deli/restaurant. So this will probably be good promotion for him. But all that matters is that people who would not have had a special meal will have one.
Merry Christmas to you Cheryl & the WFT Family & all her YT subscribers, it’s been a delight to have discovered your wee channel, & I look forward to all your videos each week!🥰 Thank you my friend xx 🤗🙏👩🏻🍳✨💫🎄🎅🏼🦌🛷🎁📯🌟☃️❄️⛸️🤶🏻🎄💫✨ Haddock camp here 🙋♀️, but love cod as well, those Aldi fillets look the business!😋😍
I wait all week every single week for your videos Sharon, thank you for such warm and calming content. Wishing you and your family and loved ones a beautiful and festive holiday!
Merry Christmas Cheryl Christmas morning here in Sydney about to have breakfast and put the roast in the oven and have a nice glass of wine and have a relaxing day
Very happy Christmas to you and your family and a big thank you for making the videos, I always look forward to Monday mornings. I prefer cod by the way!
The fish from ALDI are the best, and have been buying for at least 2 years. I love the cod [South London] and have often picked up the Haddock by mistake, I wished they make the packaging more clearer though.
Happy Christmas to you all! Oh, definitely Haddock. Sadly it's Cod that more popular around here, and some chippys don't even have Haddock. Our local one does though. Cod can be nasty...can get worms in it! 🤮 Plus Haddock is tastier.
I love the gravy/sauce you make to serve with the fish cakes. I prefer Cod. It is more available here in NE Tennessee than Haddock. Most of the fish here is fresh water/bottom feeder Catfish and Tilapia and they have an off-putting dirt/mud/sewage taste and smell to me. I would love to see you make the Haggis. I love the idea of your Mince with a Baked/Jacket Potato. Everything always looks so delicious. Merry Christmas. TY for the mention and you are ever so welcome. Love ya.
Merry Christmas, Cheryl and Family🎄🧑🎄Your channel always provides such a comfortable joy (especially this time of year),so thank you for your consistent content. You are a Scottish gem🙂
Merry Christmas to you and your family Cheryl. It's been a great year of watching your wonderful videos. I hope your Christmas is filled with joy, laughter and great blessings.
I grew up eating cod. Once in a blue moon my Dad who was from County Durham would bring home fish and chips and they were wonderful. My American Mom would also make lovely fish and chips. Now when we go for fish and chips we usually get halibut. Wishing you, the family and Jasper a Merry Christmas. Actually our favourite fish and chip shop is almost a half hour drive away and its called Jasper's. 🐈🎄🇨🇦
OH halibut...I don't think I've ever tried that ☺ Jasper's fish & chip shop...Jasper would like that! 😄 Merry Christmas my friend and all the very best for 2024 🥰
I highly reccomend Lidls 3 fish roast 3 fillets of fish, salmon, cod and smoked haddock in layers, in a creamy 🧀 sauce. We had it earlier for Xmas eve dinner with steamed veg and it was fab.....indulgent but yet quite light 😋
Merry Christmas! I had to view your channel late today and I'm so glad I didn't wait until Boxing Day. It's just a treat for me to see what you have made and I get some great ideas. Your cooking is just the kind of food I was raised on. So it brings back sweet memories of years gone by. Thanks so much for sharing and I wish you and your family a Wonderful New Year, too. ❤️🎄
Here in Canada, Ontario to be specific, I go for haddock. Sons like halibut, but it can be dry if slightly overcooked. Our local is My Place fish and chips located at Victoria Park and Sheppard. Family owned and wonderful people.🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️ merry Christmas everyone.
All that fish looked so good! Fish and chips is one of my go-to meals when eating out, if available. Where I live, Washington State, most fish and chips would be made with cod but sometimes there is an option for halibut which is much more expensive. However I do often prefer the halibut. Quality varies widely from shop to shop. The best fish and chips near me is served out of a food truck that has a route of 4-5 different locations depending on day of the week. Nearest me on Wednesdays. Sadly, they take the winter off so they are now done until next spring. Have a great Christmas Cheryl and family. Looking forward to more great videos in 2024.
I've never had Haddock, because it is not available where I live in Oregon. Pacific Cod is what you want for a fried fish dinner here. It is so good my mouth is starting to water at the thought LOL.
🎄Merry (almost) Christmas! Good evening everyone! Happy Sunday to you 🙂 Thank you for joining me for this week’s meals of the week video and I hope you’re all well ☺ Welcome or welcome back!🎄
Merry Christmas Cheryl hope you have nice Christmas hope you new year day
Thank you Arfan, the same to you and your family 🙂@@mohammedarfan5499
Has to be Haddock every time. Have a great Christmas.
Agreed! All the very best for 2024 🤗
Haddock has far more flavour than cod. I always go for haddock at the chippy when ordering fish.
In Holland we have ‘lekkerbekjes’ (literal translation : delicious little mouths) cod in batter
Aw I love the sound of that! What a lovely name ☺💙

Sorry that should be 50g of anchovies not 95g as above!!
Nice looking fish, and beautiful pictures of Whiting Bay!
Love your videos Cheryl, your meals always look varied and comforting!😊❤thankyou for sharing them !

Here in NZ the favored fish is gurnard or snapper, but both are so expensive, we don't have the wonderful choice you have from Aldi's. Happy New Year.
2:30 -- For fish and chips, I prefer haddock to cod -- if haddock is available.
