I wanted to take a moment to say thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I have just discovered them and am delighted to have. They reminded me of my mum's cooking and I am going to make these meals again, i don't know why my meals changed through the years but I love the original Scottish meals so thank you.
I have made your wonderful lentil soup so many times now Cheryl, thank you for the recipe! My family and guests over Christmas all thought it was great 😋

You would definitely love a dish we have here called Poutine. It's chips with small pieces of cheese and gravy. A fantastic treat that I enjoy every once in a while ❤

HI Whats ForTea, I love to try the Cheese burger pasta dish... I don't mind if it doesn't look pretty as long as it tastes good! And it fills up ya tummy! My favourite meal to make it roast pork with crispy skin, roasted or mashed spuds and mushrooms.. I also love to try a fish pie, but I am not sure if here in Perth, Australia we have smoked haddock. Any way I hope you and your family had a wonderful Xmas and New Year. Philippa x
All your meals look so good! I make the cheeseburger pasta often. I like to add tabasco sauce to my serving. Have you ever made vegetable cabbage soup? So good and so easy. Of course you can add ground beef or sausage if you like but just veggie is very good.
How do you eat the puff? Cut it up or dun, it in gravy? I made a thanksgiving casserole with ground turkey and gravy the bottom layer was stuffing then the turkey gravy and veggies followed by a mashed potato topping...yum!
I look at your mashed sweet and wonder how you make that? I think it is what we call rutabaga here in the states. When I have used it making Upper Peninsula pasties, I have found it to be as hard as a rock! So, what do you do to it to turn it into that smoothly mashed sweet? Thanks for answering my question, Cheryl.❤ BTW, my mom s family was from Eastern Canada. My grandmother used to make fish cakes that I loved. She used left over mashed potato. Then she bought salted cod (which I can t find any more). She soaked that for awhile. Then she combined the two and fried those cakes. I miss them! They were so delicious.
Hi Karen 💙 For the swede I just peel it, cut it into chunks or large dice...then boil it in salted water for around 30 minutes 💙 or until a knife slides through it easily. I then drain the water out and give it a good mash with a hand masher....have a break for a minute and go at it again 😆 it's hard work on the wrist! When it's about 90% done, I add a good knob of butter (around 30g or 1oz) of butter and a shake of white pepper and continue mashing until I'm happy with the consistency. Hope this helps 🙂
May I ask what mash Swede is? Looks like…..squash? Turnips? My daughter is named Tatiana and her dad is Scottish and I told her about her namesake “tatties “ 🤣

It's not dissimilar to a croissant, but a bit crisper and less sweet. Slips down a treat with gravy & mashed tatties. 😋
