- Rock 'n' Roll music originated in the late '40s America and spread throughout the world because it made people dance and have fun. Music stalwart G Ramanathan first introduced this in Tamil cinema with his foot tapping Yaaradi Nee Mohini song. Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy also used Rock n Roll in their songs and so too did Ilaiyaraaja. But why did this vanish from Tamil film music after the '90s? Watch this video to know more.

Although eena meena teeka is fast tapping, its "yaaradi nee mohini" which steals the thunder with so many intervening curves .... TMS giving a majestic voice , its G.Ramanathan ❤ the ultimate. GR is considered legendary for so many genres pips others in this "rock and roll" too. However, MSV ❤ is not far behind with outstanding scores in this genre.

Good video covering different eras/languages on 'Rock and Roll' musical genre. 'Baila'(portugal/Srilankan) is another musical genre that has been used extensively since 1950's in TFM. A.R.Rahman came up with a nice jazz based composition in kadhal virus(20002). The staccato phrasings and vigorous syncopation(Excellent drumming) veers towards R&R in certain phrases though it is predominantly a jazz based number. Link below.

Heard this song after a really long time. It definitely has Jazz in it but it sounds more techno pop than RnR to me. The joy of RnR is missing in it. It's slightly dark for me.
@@TamilNostalgia agree , as I said it is definitely Jazz , but does not have the characteristic swing of R&R. This song is very under rated, though.
