This is kind of video I really like about Cuckoo channel. Actual prepared songs on a single gear with clear hands-on approach and only a little bit of talking here and there. This is a content with replay value.
What a fun 50 minutes. I'll be revisiting this to exercise my imagination many times I think. Lovely stuff Cuckoo ❤ Edit: I super love the downtown track! And tectec!! Whole thing is wonderful!!!
I've purchased your sound packs for the po33 where you sampled some sounds inspired by the mega drive. But I was wondering if it was possible for you and teenage engineering to come up with a new limited edition Pocket Operator developed by you. That would be a dream come true for me.
Thank you so much AntoniO! It would be incredible to make a branded limited pocket operator. But it would take a lot of work and development. I'm not a stranger to it though.
This was wonderful; I would love a follow-up. A bit of a deep dive into your approach for transitions and how you're timing all your pattern changes. Much love and massive respect. 🙏🏽
Man…this is gold. Like some tucked away memory on those amazing megadrive soundscapes. Got me to realize those must have been one of the reasons for my music obsession in the present.what an amazing live set!!
this guy is the shit! Anybody remember aquatic ruin? seemed like it at first. i love that song. Sometimes i like nothing more than watching people flex their abilities with their gear, especially when its the same stuff i got. very inspiring.
Amazing! Good to see you kept/expanded the first stage track from previous video. I imagine this song as the first stage of (imaginary) new retro style Golden Axe game. If the (retro) game companies don't start contacting you immediately after this video and asking you to compose soundtracks for their games then they are missing out big time.
Man, this ist great! I love the concept too. Coming more from the C64 SID/ Amiga Paula side of early computer music, i never had met the console side of music. But what you did here really opened it up. I always admire how you get things moving. Thank you!
The downtempo and delicate stuff is my favorite, great performance which reflects a massive amount of preparation and practice. Owning and using a Digitone for live performance I really appreciate all the little things you are doing as well as the calm required to not get flustered when you hit the midi page for example...an audience would have no idea anything is amiss with how you recover and transition between parts and ideas!
I might have already commented on this video, but rewatching it and i cannot BELIEVE some of these songs are simply two-page patterns. You are a master of trig conditions!
first time i've actually listened to your music as music, and not as instruction/education etc. really like this. reminds me of an album i listened to last year by a guy called dominique guiot. cbf stopping the vid and going back to the start, but i think you said something about gaming, and it reminds me of game music, which has recently been a growing part of my musical taste. im also gaming while i listen. this video makes a nice album!
The intro did a wonderful job of setting the scene, and the execution delivered. I hear people saying versions of the following phrase, and I’m not sure that they know what it means, but you, sir, are a legend.
I been coming back to this video every day lol. These beats are so fire. My favorite is the meeting of a kindred soul lol. My jam! I downloaded the soundpack in solidarity with my boy Cuckoo. Hopefully we get more digitone vids! Been wanting to check out dude on some of his other gear, but these beats just so damn good, I can't stop this one lol. Keep em coming, Cuckoo!
I've only been following the Cuckoo channel for a short time, truly inspirational stuff my friend, I've just bought my first digitone and I own the akia force which I'm hoping to marry up together. I would pay money if you ran a proper course on how to use these instruments in a live performance but also started of with tutorials on the set-ups of the gear and how to use them, I realise thus might be a bit of an ask but you have some amazing skills which synthesisers and I must admit being an xDJ and am also hooked on synthesis, being 62 years old and find the time to sit down for hours upon hours trying to teach myself this stuff is probably not going to happen, but having a proper layout if a course would help so many of us who aren't as technically savvy as yourself. Anyway sorry about the rant, lol I do love everything you do on your channel, keep up the great work. Go the Cuckoo.......
This f*cking rules!!!! I literally felt like I was playing all the old videogames I used to play on my PC as a kid in the 90s. Except it's by a skilled and crazy scientist of music!
Bravooo!!! 👏👏👏...Encore ...Encore. Yeah, the music gadget is great, but your cool vibe & great style are amazing. Thanks for share!. Saludos desde México ❤️🔥🎧🍉🥞🍊🌻🐈🐙🐝🦁💐
Excellent piece of work ! The bass of Street1 was so good. All the sounds and textures interesting too. Good job ! The hours behind this set should be consequent. We can imagine really well the game with your set. It could be super cool to put it on spotify, I don't know if you want to but it can fit some of my playlist super well. Great job, the Digitone suits you dude !
Such a vibe!!! The very first tone and your telling smile say it all! The first level after the start button was very underground cave-level style, I imagine little reflecting stalactites and maybe some pieces of decrepit treasure on the ground :D Love the tune around 20:00, so funky!!
How did I miss this?!?!? Love it! I grew up with the C64 and Amiga mostly, but later had PCs with OPL chips, and absolutely LOVE FM. I later got into MegaDrive sound, Edlib (Vibrants Adlib Tracker) and arcade YM chips. Anyway, excellent as always! A touch of Bio Hazard Battle in there ;) I particularly like the track around 20 mins.
@@truecuckoo This audio storytelling is fantastic! Our protagonist is currently in the Tech area and powering up ready for the boss fight! Let's go! 💪🏽🤖👌🏽
Cuckoo, this is exceptional. I listened to it while making dinner. Modern but nostalgic. I would play this “game” just for the soundtrack. Well done. Would love to see perform in Minnesota in the future. Or I’ll visit to see u in a club there. :)
Hello from 4 months in the future (earth date 23rd July 2022). I've just finished the game Stray and think you'd absolutely love the soundtrack and sound design in that game. It's probably the best sound design I've ever heard in a game. I can hand on heart say you'd love it. I think I know you quite well through your videos now. I'd highly recommend trying to play it. It's about 6 hours long. You definitely won't regret it 🤗
Mega Drive was special, Yuzo Koshiro was god level!!🤩 Love your channel sir! You make this look so easy and your tutorial was awesome. I’m a novice but for some reason I want to try and get back into music creation, maybe the digitone is a bit above my level though!😅
31" shinobi style, i love it, tu déchire cuckoo. Eh super live sur le cycles également Genius planant. Sounds of The sega talk me a lot…i Had love r-type music levels too when i had 12y sounds good agreed
Man, 25:30 to 25:34 is like the PERFECT intro for like a Robot Master or something in a Mega Man type game. Just that quick 5 second intro before a stage starts where they show you the boss, haha.
Mann I really enjoy those videos showing all the potential of a groovebox in one set 🤘 You really do have your own signature sound, whatever device you pick 😎 Also, do I hear 8 bar loops? That melody at 9:06 is hunting! Epic stuff mate!
Thanks! Yeah I do some 8 bar tricks here and there. Slowed down melody tracks sometimes. Other times alternating trig conditions to extend and double the phrase.
This was a really good set. And beyond that, it's inspiring. My head is now overflowing with ideas from a part of the musical universe I might not have ever discovered on my own.
Amazing music! Listening to this, you can really hear you're going back to the roots of where you've got your overall style from and this FM sound format really suits it. Cuckoo comes full circle :)
Honestly, it just doesn't hit the same without Cuckoo actively digging it as well...oh yeah...nice..I like it...good beat. Learning to make all those changes on the fly, that must take a lot of practice.
Ultra fun set! Snjoyed the hell out of it! This should be performed live at Tilt in Oslo, perfect for the retro gaming vibes there :-D Thanks for the set!
Thanks for the magic journey to your arcade music world. You should make music for games and movies, or maybe you do? That last "sitar" song reminds me of Zelda music. And Zelda has best soundtrack ever. I want more albums like this! 🙂
Haha. The Digitone is holding its own for sure. But you gotta love to explore the FM algorithms. The Syntakt is much easier to work with, and plus it has those gnarly analog tracks. It's a tough call :D
@@truecuckoo this really helps me decide! I am learning the hydrasynths ideosyncracies for the last month or so, and really want a box to go with to make house and lofi type ish. Dam dude. This is so sic. It's like futuristic retro game music. Incredible work. I thought the cycles video was the best this is probably even better
This is amazing, got chills in my spine with those mad grooves, especially the eastern sounding instrument. Crazy good
You have such wonderful energy. The music and the way you shoot it in the mirror is DIY genius. Now I want one of these!
Goal: make good music that has a video game soundtrack vibe. Result: Total success.
FM has such a clean-dirty sound. Don't know if that makes sense but it just feels that way. It's like distortion without any "warmth"
oh yes man...music in 80's games were top of the art! well done buddy!
OMG those sounds... Megadrive is just my fav. Thank you for the great set! @4:33 I'm getting some Strider vibes!
