I really enjoy your demo/overview videos, they're always unique and I always pick up a new technique or tip. I love that you emphasize exploration and enjoyment. Good stuff.
Wow. This is by far the best demonstration of an Elektron device I have ever seen. The sounds and sequences you made are so inspiring and also the way you explain everything so clearly. Would love a whole album filled with this kind of stuff. Thanx, Sarah!
This is the first time I’ve come across your channel. I loved the way you presented. Nice clear and clear information with some good sounds. I’ll definitely check out your future videos.
Best Digitone II video I’ve seen!!! Loved the “crickets” specially! Would be awesome if you go deeper on that sound design 😅 Thank you so much from Barcelona!
Amazing demonstration! Really appreciate seeing it being used in this manner, which is way closer to my own than the styles in any of the other videos available.
Whaaaaaaaaatt? It's really great that you've made this video because I had no idea the Digitone 2 was capable of this sort of sound. I'm patiently waiting to decide on some type of hardware that will be a good fit for exploring my more experimental oriented sounds and between this and the Hydrasynth Explorer videos you've made (which I found just yesterday) I feel like I have a much better idea of some synthesis based options that I never would have considered previously. Thank you!
I pretty much exclusively use modular and tape but you got me thinking with this demo. It’s really enlightening to see someone showing the experimental possibilities of an Elektron box. The 3 LFO’s per track and how you can sequence everything is crazy powerful.
As someone who's never used an Elektron device before, this was really informative: it was at the level of detail and structured in a way that kind of gives me an idea of what the capabilities are of one of their devices, thanks for that!
You should absolutely coin the terms "origitone" and "alterator" - I wouldn't have even questioned it if you hadn't included it in the bloopers reel 😂 Thanks for the wonderful video and demos. The explorations with you and Ryan in particular were just perfect 🤌
10:26-10:37 reminds me of a robot straining to lift up something heavy, then comically tipping over. great breakdown; clear and educational. May pick one up.
Wow, you found some really fantastic tones in there. I absolutely loved the jam with Ryan using the Thunder… just goes to show how dramatically an input device can shape the tonal possibilities of an instrument.
Love this, just decided to buy one. Was Going to get a digitakt 2, no longer, this is more than an updated version of the digitone and at just under a grand, that’s a lot of synth. For people who arent familiar with the Elektron devices, it can also be very rhythmic, lol.
Thanks, Sarah. Both for giving a good high-level of this device, but also for just 'using' parameter locks so I could watch without a bunch of explaining to confuse me (as has the case up to now). I get it now. Much appreciated all around.
masterful presentation.............this is killer - I'm kind of kicking myself for not getting immersed in the Elektron line when I was building my new set up......great upload.............great voice, great info......so well put together.................
Fantastic video Dr Reid as usual. I preordered one of these already, but I got some cool tips/ideas to try out when it arrives. You also have me wanting a Voltage Lab 2 even though I have a stupidly large modular setup already.
This video helped put my GAS into overdrive for this amazing machine. ;) Still paying off a Virus TI2, so trying to hold temptation at bay for now.. I'm enjoying some close approximations of DT 2 in the mean time, with Drambo on iPad , hosting the brilliant FM Zone AUV3 (4 op FM synth) plugin, and also the Fors OPAL M4L device for Ableton. Drambo's dev was inspired by the Elektron workflow, and Opal, created by a former Elektron employee who was a big part of Digitone and Model Cycle's development.
Completely agree. You have an excellent ear for sound and I’ve bought 3 other synths because of your review. Please explore soma, and elektron, and twisted electrons
Im surprised you didnt get into sequencing some of your modular gear with the digitone. Or maybe you did and didn’t show it, but that sequencer is unparalleled.
Great Video! Once again, your fresh approach gives me new ideas for my gear (Hydrasynth, west coast stuff...). Do you prefer major or minor? ;-) Greetings from Vienna!
I don't find time to watch full videos but I always love watching the music & exploration part of your videos. That first thing you did with playing different timbres across the keys is the best performance idea I've seen for an Elektron box in a long time! Can you also play them like that while the sequencer is playing?
Great video! Just one clarification; at 28:50 you mention that midi sequences can do all that audio sequences can do but unfortunately, midi cannot do Retrig. Maybe some day... I skipped around the video though so apologies if you made that clear elsewhere.
basing on sounds and possibilities its surprsingly best succesor from modern elektron instruments to machinedrum and monomachine. sure it has different engines than mnm and md but soundwise it resembles them so much i think i would stop dreaming ab md and mnm
What an awesome video about a very interesting machine. you display so much more variety of possibilities (weird sounds, interesting compositions etc), than elsewhere. When one gets a super machine like this, does one still need a Digitakt (mk I) to accompany the Digitone II, or are you covered with just the Digitone II?
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :) To be honest, I've never used a Digitakt myself, so I think it depends a lot on your preferred workflow and what kind of music you want to make. I will say that the DG2 is very deep, so you'll be able to do a lot with just it alone!
i have the analog rytm2 for drums, i like it, but i am not a fan von this operation method at all, i hate it to push 1-3 buttons before i get to anything i want. if this machine would be 2x bigger with more knobs and a 2x bigger screen, it would be a no brainer for me, also for 400 bucks more. what i like about analog rytm, is the DAW integration per USB, imo every modern synth should have a flawless integration with a VST plugin controller, i am just too lazy for older analog hardware TBH. specially in times where we get exzellent emulations like u-he repro or ABL3.
Very well explained, and that makes me realize this isn't for me. I'm not new to Eletron gear, I've tried almost all of them, and this brand is just too geek oriented for my needs. I'm not at all saying they're bad, it's just that to me they're not made to do straight forward electronic music, or very hard to be used in a versatile way. In the late 70's, we used to say that guitarists where making music just for guitarists. That's kind of what I think of Elektron, I feel they make instruments oriented too much towards bedroom geeks.. who actually really listens to the music produced by them? That's not a bad thing, the goal is to enjoy oneself, and that's just great. But I've rarely heard music I enjoy on Elektron, while I 've really liked some stuff made on more simple and straight forward electronic gear, like those 90's or early 2000's grooveboxes, or what the greats (Detroit house music, The Cure, Depeche Mode, early Drum&Bass or Reggae Duba, etc... ) did with very rudimentary gear.
this is wildly wrong. it's super super easy to do ' straight forward electronic music" on them. actually I think what you are hearing is the fact that they are so well designed that its very easy to go further than that and create new ideas. seriously, the amount of generic techno, house etc done on these boxes, im surprised you'd come to that conclusion ...
You made it sound better than the launch videos.
She should be doing the video launch. This is the first time I’ve been interested in a Elektron devise
@@mikegeary8056elektron gear has always been awesome, she did a great job showing it in a way that most youtubers don’t.
You’re the best 🙌🏼

So happy that they resonate with you!
Best video for this machine by far, good job, bravo !
This is by far, the best Digitone II demo. The trigger key sequence was brilliant.

I didn't think I wanted one until I got to 10:30 of this video. Wow, the sounds you make in this video are impressive and inspiring.
LOVEEEE it the experimental sounds are amazing, the approac of each track as individual timbres and textures wooow
The only person I’ve seen who accesses the potential of this, thank you
Very cool video and interesting sounds Sarah, can't wait for mine to arrive and explore, thanks for making the inspiring noises!

Soft spoken, easy pacing, and a different approach to sound (and the creation of) from most other reviews. A pleasure watching your reviews, Sarah.
I pretty much exclusively use modular and tape but you got me thinking with this demo. It’s really enlightening to see someone showing the experimental possibilities of an Elektron box. The 3 LFO’s per track and how you can sequence everything is crazy powerful.
It's a very different workflow from modular for sure, but still lots of incredible options for sound design.
Amazing video. Your sound examples are so dope!!!

I was surprised to see you working with an Elektron box! Great work! Can't wait to get mine.
Wouaaaa that was the most interesting 34 minutes of my day I want one. But so expensive. Thanks!!!!
thank you!! glad you found it interesting :)
Sounds really good. I love FM! Thanks for the detailed review. Love those glitchy noises

This made me list my DN1 on ebay. Much better than official release video and those of other youtubers!

The Digitone is my most used music device ever and now its evolved. Cant wait.
Amazing amount of features packed into such a small box.
I loved this. Great job exploring some of the sonic possibilities of the DT2. Sounds amazing.
Thank you!
your demo sounds amazing!!!
Really interesting and useful to see/hear experiments and explorations of this instrument. Very clear presentation style too. Thanks!
Glad you found it helpful!
Great video, love that you go into modular / experimental perspectives with this thing
Glad you liked it!
It's so refreshing to see something different on these boxes !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for the inspiration❤
Great demo of machine possibilities!
Nice patching! I can't wait for mine to arrive. These black boxes are pure genius, imho.
Cwm’s presets are the best, I think you’ll love how hard he pushed it!!
I especially liked the sound demo of the Elektron Digitone II using the Buchla Thunder--thanks so much!!
The video that I was scared of. Great job Sarah, now I am interested
Love seeing the S-4 in the mix. Thanks for a great video!
Great fun, I am extremely tempted by this :D
“Can you play me that Aphex tune now, Sara?” - “Hold my beer”
Amazing stuff! Thank you for this equally informative and inspiring video. ❤
Lovely presentation from your (always interesting) point of view / audition.
🙏
Very nicely done video presentation of this device for non-Elektron people.
That last experiment was lovely, so much texture! I'm surprised you didn't play with the arp more, it's a killer sound design aspect as well.
Aphex twin would be flying to the moon and back just to have this machine for his new albums. Nice demo by far. I can’t to get this thing. Superb.
That’s the first thing I thought of!
such a fantastic review from an unusual angle.. which does a great service to this product or hm well, to its makers! :)

Inspiring demo and perspective !
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
DN II is my eighth Elektron device and I never thought about playing the tracks as a multichannel keyboard. Nice.
Love what you are doing with this.
Giving me ideas to try with my Syntakt 🎶🔥
The Music and Exploration at minute 18 onwards was FUCKIN AMAZING!!! Thanks for adding a tutorial

so many cool sounds in this thing, id love it if u made sample packs from these videos
13:32 the sound of money leaving my household
Great demo. Thank you!
Noice! I knew that you'd make some pretty wacky sounds with this magic box o'tricks :)
Haha, yep! Wacky sounds is what I do :)
This is fantastic!
I'm so happy i found your channel 😊
Me too!!
Pleasee explore Elektron units further, you’re teaching style hits and you like sound design. A really good start would def be the Rytm MkII ; )

this is so good and inspiring wow

Great Review.
That Thunder is HUGE!!! 😃
lol and it’s heavy! I was certainly surprised by the chonkiness when I first got it
Exploration section is giving serious Sophie vibes
True
Hell yeah, I did not expect you to have a vid on this. You seem to make vids on everything I get, guess we have similar taste 😎
This one was definitely new territory for me, but it turned out to be super fun and something I'll be keeping around in my setup, for sure!
Damn, that thing sounds amazing.
Great Video! Once again, your fresh approach gives me new ideas for my gear (Hydrasynth, west coast stuff...).

Placed the order based on your video. :) Funny, I was also considering the S4 and you used it!
