My sister had her diamond fall out of her engagement ring. In fairness-- she had had the ring for a LONG time and did not have it frequently checked for adjustments. She claimed on her homeowners policy. They gave her no problem. It was a 20 year old ring.

Speaking from experience, when I received my invoice from By Bonnie EVERYTHING was perfectly explained. From the design, type of metal and stones to be purchased, to the rules of returns, exchanges, repairs, etc. All was in writing right above the signature space, including advise to insure my purchase against all risks of loss or damage. Not only she is the queen of diamonds and craftsmanship, transparency is key in her business 💎.

That is unfortunate. My heart breaks for her. I never trust insurance from the jewelry store. I have a separate policy from our homeowners insurance company that covers my ring. Or if you rent, you can get a policy from your renters insurance. If I lose the ring or stone it is100% covered.

I agree, always get a "separate" jewelry policy. I do not recommend just adding it to your homeowner's or tenants policy as the coverage would depend on a covered peril so you will not get nearly the same coverage as on an actual jewelry policy. I highly recommend Jewelers Mutual, one of the best and pretty affordable.

I have worn my solitaire diamond wedding ring since 1988! Insurance wasn’t an option back them. The jeweler stood by their workmanship. What happened to quality work and integrity? I occasionally have my ring checked by a jeweler, never had any problems.

Kay offers metal instance for free, the Diamond stone insurance is extra $300-$400 to buy extra and only kicks in when taken for inspection every 6 months to prevent this kind of thing from happening. Not into big box stores like them 💎 I’d trust someone like Bonnie over them 😂 Always go to a real insurance company for jewelry

Someone has bought me jewelry from these stores. Now it was about a decade ago, and it wasn’t a diamond ring, but the pieces I had were gemstone necklaces and bracelets. My bf at the time would always buy the insurance for each piece. They said I needed to get them cleaned every 6 months otherwise, the insurance would be voided. I felt like every time I went in, they used it as an opportunity to sell us on more jewelry ☹️ and each piece I owned had a different date to which I needed to bring it in. It was all too much to keep up with. I think they bank on you not bringing it in so that they can keep the money you paid for the insurance without having to actually having to uphold their part of it. It all felt very scammy. I’m not sure if it changed since then, but I did not enjoy my experience with the insurance and would never purchase it in the future.

There should be no charge for the warranty though. Because it is not an actual insurance policy and if they are calling it that, then they are lying. I agree, it is hard to keep up on inspections and who really remembers to do it anyway.

To be fair, they do the same thing at Jared’s. They were very clear about the check-ups every 6 months and let us know that it had to be done to qualify. Can’t be upset with the store for not paying attention to the fine print. This is why you read paperwork on things you purchase.

    • @BlendedBarbieDoll
      @BlendedBarbieDoll Год назад

It’s not even fine print. They are pretty clear about it however after having a ring from Jared for almost 10 years and one from Kay before 6 months becomes difficult to keep up with as life starts moving. They know people will stop going. With that said, you pay for that plan so I feel like it should still count.

Just got my ring in the mail a week ago. I immediately took pictures, called my homeowners insurance to add it as well as added another policy from a company called Zillons on top of the warranty/insurance from the manufacturer. I was not taking any chances. Ask questions! I specifically said what covers the metal and what covers the Diamond. I wanted everything from theft, loss , damage and repairs. So in total I have 3 policies on the same ring.

Lesson here is to learn the difference between insurance and a repair/accidental damage/maintenance policy. Insurance against loss/theft/mysterious disappearance is insurance. Whatever you buy from the retailer is not insurance.

Metal can bend. Yes especially gold or platinum. That’s why they require you have it inspected twice a year. Yes you are required to do this and they will replace your diamond for free!!! And that does include the center stone. The insurance your talking about is different than what’s called a diamond bond which is free with any Kay’s, Zales or any Signet Jewelers diamond jewelry. The insurance this woman is referring to is called a jewelry protection plan and that is an optional purchase which covers the metal only. This plan clearly states it does not cover the loss of stones. This video is unfair to this jeweler who sold the ring. Read your paperwork and if your still unsure go to the website and if your still not sure Call customer support. The customer must be held accountable for their irresponsible do diligence

wait wait. although the warranty covers damages to a ring, it DOES NOT cover LOST diamonds! particularly, the center diamond. this is something they don’t tell you. i do not advise ANYONE to buy their rings from kay’s. their prices are 3-4x the actual manufacturer price.

I know that Kay does give a warranty that requires an inspection every six months, but who has time for that. It is better to just buy a policy through Jewelers Mutual or another good company. Although, I have to say, it is smart to get your ring inspected and prongs tightened at least once a year. I also hope people are not rough on their rings. Bonnie has a video in which she goes over what not to do with your ring or you will ruin it.

I would like her to write a letter to the corporate office. Explain to them what occurred your situation, how you never went back to the store because the ring fit well etc. Be genuine and explain without profanity or name calling. You may be surprised that a corporate representative, may hear your plea and help. Look into the top company officials. I wish you good luck.

Wow, so sad. I'm sure her husband would've liked to know the insurance only covered the metal. Who does that? Well, my heart goes out to her and I hope she finds a beautiful new ring. I remember my Mom lost her diamond from her setting when I was a teenager. She was outside crying, searching the yard and driveway (gravel). It was about a 1 carat round solitaire (Daddy did pretty good for 1975!!) and they didn't have insurance and maintenance wasn't even a thing. She wore it every day of my life to that point. I felt so bad for her, she was devastated. Replacing it with a similar diamond was just not in the budget, it was awful. I remembered that when I got married and made sure to get maintenance on my rings. My husband purchased my ring from Kay Jewelers and so far (almost 20 years) I've had no issues. But watching this video reminded me it's time to take it in for cleaning and tightening. They always check the prongs when they service the ring. Love your channel!!! I love looking at all the pretty diamonds!!! Also, you share excellent info to help us shop wiser :) Thank you!

Hi bonnie! I love your channel, I learn so much from watching you, and you help me do my job so well 💕
I work for Kay Jewlers, and we do not offer insurance. When you buy ANY diamond jewelry at Kay's you get a diamond bond for free. In order to keep it active you must come every 6 months to get it checked (bec its free). And let me tell you, most of our daily customers are in for their inspections.
I am so sorry that your customer lost her center stone, I hate when that happens, it breaks my heart because it means so much for them. Personally, when the partner buys the ring, I let them know about the diamond bond. Then, show them the pamphlet about the warranty (not insurance). What that covers is yes, all the metal work, including setting the stone, sizing, etc. And what we do is staple the diamond bond and warranty pamphlet to the receipts. And also personally, I'll write down the months they need to come to get it checked.
I'm so sorry she received bad customer service, and watching this video it made it clear she either misunderstood, her partner possibly did not let her know, or maybe the salesperson did not tell her husband.
I loved talking about diamonds before watching your channel, and then after watching all your videos, it actually inspired me to go into this business. Thank you Bonnie💕
    Keep the videos coming! 😁

Did she contact her homeowners insurance company, they may have some coverage- it’s worth checking into. Also, contact 1.the better business bureau BB&B and finally 2. Touch base with consumer tv journalists in your area, Kay and the parent company has a NEGATIVE history with shoddy workmanship along with FAILURE to explain the fine details of purchase agreements. More negative media for this company may spur them to step up to cover this mess.

I believe it. I got a tennis bracelet for Christmas. From Zales ( gift, I prefer smaller jewelers personally. .)..... I wore it twice. 3rd time I noticed 2 stones missing. I had it replaced but I wasn't happy about that, reviews said same. 2 stones in 2 weeks. Smh the bracelet was on sale for 2300. Ì couldn't believe the stones came out as if it was costume rhinestones. Unacceptable.

Regardless of insurance get your gemstones checked away least annually if you wear them frequently. I was shocked that one of my rings had a loose stone. Thr jeweler repaired it quickly and for free. In another ring from the same store I noticed a tiny missing stone and he replaced it for free. Being something of a jewelry addict I have learned this. Find a local small jeweler that you can trust. Don't go to a chain. If your budget is limited like mine, not able to afford the very best by Bonnie, find someone local.. they will build a relationship with you over the years and you will be happy.
