    I think an exploration of an archer build should focus more on how you USE archers throughout the game. Early in the game, a rogue with ranged sneak attack can whittle down adds and then cunning action dash out of combat, allowing you to whittle down the enemy to just the boss and lieutenants. You can also have kiting builds, where instead of killing an enemy and getting out of combat, you are just doing damage and either breaking line of sight or simply getting out of range. In which case you only need a combination of slows and Longstrider. Now, some mobs won't pursue you. They start inconveniently out of line of sight, and just won't pursue into a kill zone. In both ambush and kiting builds, firepower and dps are not as important as mobility, slows and simply setting up the battlefield ahead of time. Which necessitates a discussion of how to best set up the battlefield, and understand what battlefields are harder to set up.
    In general, the attraction of archers and most melee types is that they don't use up limited resources each battle. So the minor fights shouldn't exhaust any cooldowns you need for the big fights.

    Look into CoSbard6/thief4/fighter2.
    CoSBard: U get access to flourish which doubles your attack (so 4 attacks per 1 action) and xtra attack at lvl 6, also useful spells like longstrider, and very decent aoe for when you don't want to pick off singles
    Thief 4: rogue into thief at 3 for extra bonus action, also sneak attack (consistent advantage with risky ring - also higher crit chance), 4th lvl for feat only. 2bonus actions turn into 2 crossy offhand attacks which do 1d6 +dex + 10 (sharpshooter).
    Fighter 2: archery spec + action surge
    Dex>cha>con>wis. Equip crit stuff and enjoy.
    Also it's a bard so u get the general utility along with combat superiority.

      Cross bows are cool for aesthetic and RP reasons. But in terms of damage they won't ever do more than titanstring with a strength elixir, to be honest no ranged weapon can out damage that monster.

    • @ilikepiesandstuff761
      @ilikepiesandstuff761 9 месяцев назад

      @@ZeroStyIe there is a point to be made for max dex gloom stalker with titanstring and strength elixir, but the extra action you get from elixir of bloodlust is more valuable since hill giant's compounded str modifier from each attack amounts to less damage than 2 (or 3) extra attacks, and that's not even accounting for crit potential of each subsequent attack.

    • @ZeroStyIe
      @ZeroStyIe 9 месяцев назад

      @ilikepiesandstuff761 while I agree for the most part. I did specifically say from a raw damage perspective. Also, while I entirely are with your point that, come the end of the game bloodlust elixir is ignificantly better at that point I would be using the str gloves to compensate if I was using the crit bow and any str based character at that point would be using 27 str exilirs so would have no idea for them ❤️. Also from natural ingredient drops, and full elixirs found in the wild and stores, I find bloodlust aren't nearly as reliable, plus literally EVERY DPS was to be using them realistically, and gloomstalkers while impressive are significantly less impressive after the first round of combat in party play, so I would prio the bloodlust exilirs to "added damage" physical damage dealers, paladins etc.

    I am new to this type of game. This was my intro to the series. I chose fighter to try something different, I had no idea they were so good with the bow until early chapter 2 when I was struggling and thought "let my try equipting a bow on my fighter", their extra attack giving me more moves and watching the damage output surprised me. No longer was I disappointed when enemies stayed way back, keeping my great sword fighter out of business: I'd simply switch to bow and unleash good damage. It made me wonder how things would have gone if i had optimized my fighter as an archer from the start, seeing this, I can see they're very capable indeed. Nice guide!

    Kudos for letting the misses in the video!
    Just tidibts for future references (hopefully not be patched out in patch #7, fingers crossed):
    - Titanbow adds its strength modifier also to special damage dices of special arrows. So if you fire an arrow of ilmater you get a strength bonus to your main arrow part but also a strength bonus to the necrotic dice.
    - Further enhancing the weapon with the dragon glaive gives it another +1 to offset the penalty
    - Magic weapon from a friendly cleric gives another +1
    - Bless gives another d4
    - Phalar Aluve sing is basically a bless, but it doesn't seem to stack with Bless
    - Stone idol from yourself in Rivington is perma bless as in: its a must :)
    - Oils can give you another +1 or +2
    - And of course the risky ring increases your chances at all
    If you use high enough strength and special arrows the +10 can be turned off because the rng is really horrible. 99% hit chance with advantage - and roll two 1s, just a normal day for a BG3 player...

    I've tried all kinds of ranged builds in rogue/fighter/ranger, and I like this consistant damage build: Fighter 5 (Battlemaster) + Rogue 3(thief) + Ranger 4 (Hunter/Colossus Slayer), using hand crossbows and Medium armor. You can do sneak attacks, but you can do really well without them as well. I don't like builds where your damage just dies, if you can not use sneak attacks. You also have high AC with this.

      @markoviitanen4441 I've run astarion with this build for 5 playthroughs now (4 on tactician), and it hasn't really been an issue. But you could pair it with warding bond and put the matching ring on a char that rarely takes dmg, like maybe shadowheart or Gale.

    • @shell6467
      @shell6467 7 месяцев назад

      @@KenlieroGames you don't even need risky ring for that, just hold shift and move out of the red area and use cunning action: hide then you can use sneak attack since cunning action use bonus action.

      @@shell6467 Yes, that is often good tactic, but you can not use hide in every situation. That is exactly why having high damage output already without sneak attacks is good. Also, you can use bonus action for extra damage with this build.

    Sword Bard Champion. With flourishing slash range you can hit single target two times per attack. With Action surge that is 8 attacks on the first turn. With gauntlet of strength and titan string. This thing do 80% of DPS for my party. And with a ring that allows you to cast illusion/enchantment as bonus action, it also provide good cc.

  • @RobertBarry1969
    @RobertBarry1969 6 месяцев назад +1

    If you say Longbow then these are good. If you say “Bow” then I think you have a missing build: the Swords Bard Hand Crossbow build. 6 levels in Swords Bard gets you Ranged Slashing Flourish which gets you two bow attacks for each attack for 1 bardic inspiration. Then I would use dual hand cross bows so you get bonus action bow attacks. Even though there aren’t great magical hand cross bows, there are decent ones. You can Nova with 2 attacks (flourish) with your first attack, then 2 more (flourish 2) with your extra attack, and 2 more (flourish 3) with your off-hand attack. It is an amazing sharpshooter build. You can stay bard or dip Thief for extra bonus action attack every turn. That extra bonus action can add 2 more attacks in your Nova round, but it is a reliable attack every turn even when you are out of bardic inspiration. After Bard 6 you could mix gloomstalker or fighter, but Bard 8, Thief 4 is pretty strong cross bow build with huge short rest nova and is a decent utility caster to boot.

    30% ≠ 100%. (Critical on a 15+). Even factoring in action economy, it's still not 100%.
    Successful outcomes: 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15 (6 in total).
    Total possible outcomes: 20 (since it's a 20-sided die).

    Let's math it out:
    So, the probability (P) of rolling a critical hit is:
    P = Number of successful outcomes/Total possible outcomes. -> P = 6/20.
    So P = 0.30.
    Now we have P, we can calculate the probability of the event not occurring in a single opportunity.
    As the event has a 30% chance of occurring, it has a 70% chance of not occurring (100% - 30%).
    Now, we calculate the probability of the event not occurring in all 5 opportunities.
    This is done by multiplying the probability of the event not occurring in a single opportunity (70%, or 0.7) by itself for each attack, as each opportunity is independent. Let's assume 5 attacks (Main Attack, Extra Attack, Action Surge Main Attack, Action Surge Extra Attack, Bloodlust Potion) So, that gives us:
    0.7 * 0.7 * 0.7 * 0.7 *0.7 = 0.16807
    Now, subtract this probability from 1 (which is 100%) to find the probability of the event occurring at least once.
    We do this because the complementary probability (the event not happening in all 5 tries) plus the probability of the event happening at least once must equal 100%.
    This gives us 1 - 0.16807 = 0.83193.
    Therefore, the probability of an event with a 30% chance occurring at least once in 5 opportunities is approximately 83.19%
    Even at end game, with the improved extra attack, this still works out to be 94% (+2 attacks)

      Straight fighter archer is good at low levels as well. If you have a companion that reliably gives you advantage or Bless, then I would consider switching Sharpshooter at 4 and ASI at 6. At early levels you can farm hand crossbows at the goblin camp. Dual wielding hand crossbows gives you one more chance to hit with sharpshooter.
