Handel Sarabande in D Minor HWV 437 (La Folia), Voices of Music, 4K Ultra High Definition video

- The Sarabande in D Minor from Handel's keyboard suite No. 4, arranged by Voices of Music. Cello solo improvised by William Skeen. Modern arrangements of the sarabande have been used in a number of films, including Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon. Dutch singer Petra Berger used the Sarabande as the musical setting for her song about Mary, Queen of Scots, "Still a Queen (In My End Is My Beginning)." An orchestral version was also used on the first episode of the 2018 television mini-series of Agatha Christie's "A.B.C. Murders", starring John Malkovich as Poirot (Wikipedia).
Handel's composition shares a number of similarities with the "La Folia" variations, including 16 bar binary phrases with open and closed endings, and alternation between D Minor and A Major with an emphasis on F Major. However, there are also clear differences from La Folia. It's possible that Handel, who was an excellent arranger, transformed the material of La Folia just as he reworked Bononcini's aria "Ombra mai fu." The unusual phrase structure is also similar to the Aria "Lascia ch'io pianga."
Our arrangement differs markedly from the modern version. We have preserved the original bass line and the angular inner voices. The sonority of the original baroque strings, while lacking the pomp of the modern winds and timpani, hews more closely to the harmonious original work of Handel.

Not only are the musicians and their instruments superb, the sound recording is utterly amazing. Long live the Voices of Music.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for this beautiful rendition of one of my favorite pieces. Time for Barry Lyndon again.
Yes! Just perfect
This has me going back to watch Barry Lyndon...again.
:)
These people are really top-notch in baroque interpretation... To say they are amazing is an understatement.
If only they dressed up from 17 century
This is how baroque music should be played !! Perfect ensemble
One of my favourite Handel pieces of all time! Great rendition!
It's unbelievable how good this performance sounds.
:)
The cello improvisations make this music profoundly moving, and elevate it to the sublime. Many thanks as well for the exquisite playing by all the members of Voices of Music.
I am in Korea now, but when I watch your video, I am in the Baroque era.
One Handel's most haunting themes. Makes you stop and hold your breath lest you disturb the solemnity of the moment.
petroni912 The theme itself is a folia, a Spanish dance from Renaissance used a lot in Baroque, see Vivaldi main theme ruclips.net/video/i4qePY2Wdss/видео.html and even Bach ruclips.net/video/sHK1Xhrh_sY/видео.html and many others. Handel’s rendition sounds magnificent, very much Handel, but the theme is the same as Vivaldi’s first variation of his Follia
Dear "Voices of Music"
Again, you have succeeded in an excellent performance, both musically and in terms of recording technology.
Their musical interpretation is top of the world.
Kind regards from Wuppertal in Germany
Danke vielmals!
The recording and production on this is insane. Congrats to engineer and mixer. *So good.*
Thank you so much, we really appreciate it.
It let me remind of Barry Lyndon
What a superb performance, and recording for the ages. Thank you.
Sublime!
Great musique one of m'y preference
I want to mention the superb sound engineering for all your videos. Much pleasure derived from hearing all those things I hadn't heard before. Thanks for this and, of course, so much more.
Thank you, we try our best :)
Bella interpretación de esta joya de Handel. Albricias y enhorabuenas para este grupo de maestros,
Handel was a brilliant melodist and arranger. At his best, he rivals even Bach. His finest works are almost painfully gorgeous.
One of the better versions that I have ever listen!!!!
Прекрасная музыка!!Сердечно благодарю!
Such a well known piece, unique interpretation
Молодцы! Вы лучшие!
Moved me to tears. Utterly sublime.
Wonderful ! May be the best version I heard.
Such grandeur and beauty through sights and sounds of the highest quality.Bravo!!
Great! Amazing! Thank you 😊
the sound they achieve is sublime.
I'm going to soak myself in this and just melt away like a bath bomb.
Sans doute une des meilleures interprétations, à la fois discrète et sublime.
Merci!
Siete sempre bravissimi.... anche nel scegliere i brani con i quali esibirvi!
Perfect!!!
When I was 4 my mother ordered me a cassette tape through Music for Young Children called "Hallelujah Handel" which included this piece in the introduction. This is the composition that made me fall in love with music!
What a great story, I never heard of this tape but it sounds like fun.
@@VoicesofMusic it's a fictionalized dramatization of the period of Handel's life during which he wrote the Messiah. Used to listen to it before bed almost every night!
When I listen to a wonderful music, I often think how lucky we are for today’s technology to allow us to listen whenever we want. Long ago you could enjoy this music at live performances only and only ruling class (monarch) was able to order performance whenever they felt like it.
The harpsichord ❤️
Fantastic as usual. In this version, you can clearly hear all the dynamics of the song. Wonderful!
Oh! One of the best versions I ever have heard!! It warms my musicerheart! Thank you!😁👍👏👏👏👏💖🎼🎶
This is my favorite channel in RUclips. Cheers from Rio, Brazil!

Well some of us appreciate nothing other than the original. Glad you kept it that way
🙌🏽
Touching and beautiful interpretation of Hendel's masterpiece almost 320 years old. Thanks!
The music was used by Stanley Kubrick's masterpieces The Clockwork Orange and Barry Lindon.
Just extraordinary! Thank you.
Our pleasure!

Muy buena interpretación, me encanta la armonía que da el piano y el cello, es muy bonito.
I always love the Baroque music; this is why.
Une nouvelle approche, richement intériorisée, méditative et presque mystique de cette oeuvre maintes fois jouée. Beauté, beauté, beauté...
Merci, merci, merci!

Amazing!
Just wonderful!!! Bravi! 🌹🌹🌹
Many thanks!
Formidable. Amen!
This song fits Vincent van Gogh's entire life story. It's absolutely magnificent. Mr Haendel was WAY WAY WAY ahead of his time. And this was only 400 years ago!
I just saw the VG immersion exhibit, and when this piece was featured, it was the highlight for me. Is that exhibit what prompted your comment? Just curious.
@@peteralbert1485 Hey buddy! Yes it is! I went to the VG exhibit in Chicago a few weeks ago. I took some strong weed and it elevated this experience to an all time high. I'm also happy to hear that you went there as well! I feel like it's definitely a must
@@Nameloading97 It felt especially great to go into a space filled with art and music after this crazy year of lockdown. It felt like therapy on so many levels.
@@peteralbert1485 I feel you, buddy. It felt weird, but extremely nice. In the words of you: It felt like therapy
Barry Lyndon better.
Handel .......your music is forever
Yes, I’m so glad you did this.
Really fun project.
Voices of Music
I’m glad you enjoyed it! My orchestra just doesn’t care as much.
Wonderful balance.
Oh yes! Been expecting this one
Es una de las melodías más hermosas que haya compuesto que ser tan admirable
