The Wasp Zapper Extreme !! 5600 Volts !! [part 2]

  • Опубликовано: 8 янв 2016
  • Follow up on the wasp nest finding in my previous video from last week, I decided to upgrade the design.
    Standard 2 kV MOT with voltage duplexer yields in 5.6 kV DC.
    Working better then expected.
    Please note ! Wasps are a declared pest in New Zealand as they destroy our native insects like bees and butterflies.
    This device needs to be monitored during operation.
    21Mar2017 - The Wasp Zapper was placed over the nest entrance at night.
    The grid sits at a voltage 5.6 kV DC and Earth plate at mid point.
    The Wasp Zapper Extreme device can only be used under direct supervision.
    Caution !! High Voltage device
    A small modification is pending due to the ± 2.8 KV active grids leaking to the ground through the wooden base. ( see part 3 , to be published over the next 2 days ). an incandescent leakage point is visible at 5:45
    Wasp Zapping starts at 4:00

      You're probably the only one here who has a genuine reason to be angry at wasps and satistied at their being toasted. For the normal dude, they are annoying, but no reason to hate them; they are animals, good grief, and quite sophisticated ones at that.

    All these dislikes due to "cruelty" yet this is probably the most humane way possible to kill an insect. Do people actually think poisoning insects is any more humane than burning, crushing, or electrifying them? Poison generally makes for a slow, painful death.

    • @cecil4485
      @cecil4485 7 лет назад +5

      Mark Jamieson A one-degree global change is significant because it takes a vast amount of heat to warm all the oceans, atmosphere, and land by that much. In the past, a one to two degree drop was all it took to plunge the Earth into the Little Ice Age. A five-degree drop was enough to bury a large part of North America under a towering mass of ice 20,000 years ago.

      I built an almost identical zapper like this one but used a variac on the input lines so i could easily control the output as I was trying to educate raccoons to stay out of my kitchen. educating them didn't work, but it was pretty funny watching them leap a foot into the air when they stepped on an energized grid. they are fearless, and will take any risk, even if they know the outcome will be bad, to get food.

    Awesome stuff, I've been looking forward to seeing this. Any chance of doing this with your MEGA cap bank? I think the evil little blighters would just vaporise as they approached in mid air lmao

    • @RODALCO2007

      +Green Silver The Mega Cap bank would destroy the grids. These is a compromise between Cap size and minimizing damage to the electrodes. At the moment the results are great, and if some wasp escaped and comes back for seconds, well so it be. The electrode grids are holding up well.

    They're not wasp they are ground bees we call yellow jackets. They are pretty aggressive little buggers and it's quite satisfying to watch the zapping.

    1. Get a Hazmat suit or similar beekeeping suit
    2. Seal the outsides with sand and cement
    3. Seal the sides of electrifying grid with glass or acrylic panel
    4. Stomp on the ground, jump jump jump jump
    5. ?????

    Very efficient device :) .. but there is a very simple solution when you have a wasp nest in the ground ... wait for the night (11.00 - 12.00 pm) to be sure that all wasps are sleeping in the nest .. prepare one or two gallons of sticky mud (sticky .. not too liquid) .. then put the mud in and over the hole .. finally, put a brick or large stone on top ... voilà ! Just forget it for 3 days .. all wasps will be dead from suffocation ... without using electricity, complicated device, chemicals or dangerous gasoline potions :)

    I don't get how this works. what causes them to complete the circuit if they fly/ can only touch one surface at a time. shouldn't the coil dead short across the air gap before selectively zapping a wasp?

    • @RODALCO2007
      @RODALCO2007  7 лет назад

      With High Voltage there need to be a certain distance between conductors to avoid a flash over.
      When the wasp enters it doesn't need to touch any conductor.
      The wet body of the wasp is a conductor and a spark occurs from one grid to the other and the wasp is electrocuted.
      Similar principle as your bug zappers they sell in Wallmart. This one just has a lot more power.

    Watching your videos I am planning building such an apparatus myself. There is one question though. Do you have any particular reason not to put the plates closer together? Like half a centimeter or so?

    • @RODALCO2007
      @RODALCO2007  2 года назад +1

      You could put the plates a bit close but you don't want creating flashovers by itself. 5.6 kV does jump across when the plates are too close. The wasp forms the conducting part and pops.
