  • New closer spaced HV grid in old TV enclosure.
    Model IZ5600 (patent by rodalco2007)
HVDC Electricity in use, power supplied via DC link to wasp and insect zapping device.
    Series WASPS [part 7]
    28 May 2016 added
A 10 Cm Ø hole was cut in the base of the TV and fitted on top of the nest entrance.
    Please Note !
Wasps are a declare pest in New Zealand, as they have no natural predators here. They destroy our naive bee population and Monarch butterflies.
    Caution !
It is good practice to monitor the Zapping device while in service.

Best thing I've seen on tv for a long time.
What if you cut a hole on the back of the case and put a microwave oven fan blowing inwards? it may blow the wasps directly into the grid.
EDIT: Maybe also rig a small firecracker with an electric igniter, drop it in the hole and set it off when the TV zapper is set. you would have a lot of insects coming out really quick.

Why would anyone feel bad about them dying? Yellowjackets aren't bees. They don't make honey, and they don't die once they sting.

Very nice video. I had a wasp problem a few years ago, but I used a different way to get rid of them. To start with I got some heavy duty expanded metal, some 2x6 scrap lumber, some heavy pieces of steel a 70 pound of railroad track, a 1 pound can of 2f black powder and a 2 foot long piece of cannon fuse. Then gently pour the black powder in the hole using a small stick to tamp it down, when the hole will take no more insert the fuse, then lay the expanded metal, lay the 2x6 wood on top, place the pieces of steel, and then the piece of railroad track. Light the fuse stand way back and when it blows no more wasps. Have some top soil ready to fill in the hole.

Had a problem with theses pests over a decade ago. Many tactics were ineffective. One that did work was flooding them for hours at night barely above freezing with slow water and then letting the hive freeze later in the night.

beautifuldurian In North America, probably elsewhere too, for about 6 or 7 $, you can buy something called the Sterling Rescue fly trap,(make killer yellow jachet traps too),
But its a bag with an aromatic bacteria pellet and a one way passage in it which you fill with water and hang somewhere in open air,
and im telling you, if there were half a dozen of those placed around each 5 acre parcel of land on the globe, flies would be extinct in 6 weeks.
God sick of flies attracted by the poop from my sister's dogs so i got one, hung it in her back yard and 3 day later it was p a c k e d.

    Viewer # 733. :-O
YAAAAY, the wasp zapper (or Sparta-2) looks more fizzy and snappy! :D
At least with this one, they HAVE TO go through the grids and not squeeze past them.
Even the VIPs (Very Insulated Pests) have to go through the grids, and have to have a tangle with a few million electrons. :D
Initial impressions of this wasp-dangerous telly: VERY SNAPPY!
I can see this evolving though..... Just like a television, if you can make this unit entirely self-contained, so it can merely be placed-and-plugged.
Then, when another nest pops up, it'll just be a case of plopping the zapper over the nest entrance and plugging into an everyday domestic socket and...... let the fizzing begin!
Another idea to add to this and feline-safety: See if you can put some kind of barrier grille on the front of it (a bit like the child-safety cage in front of an open fire) with holes in it large enough that the wasps can fly effortlessly through, but felines cannot accidentally make contact with the high voltage.
If your felines have ever tangled with black-and-yellow stripey things, then they'll have no curiosities with the wasps.
Yes, the IZ-5600mk2: _"A completely self contained unit. Just plug-and-zap!"_
Thanxx for showing. A very interesting up-cycling of an old television case. :D

This man is insane and he's focusing all of that insanity on creative ways to kill wasps. Give this man a Nobel Prize

Huge satisfaction and a lot of fun on TV today!!! Good stuff here me friend. Only thing I would personally add to this invention is a wasp zap counter. Using a Raspberry pi or Arduino and a pixel screen. That would be amazing.

I’m with you on the death penalty on wasps. I’m sure they serve a purpose but they are just evil little bastards. I love the Zed 5600. Looking forward to future improvements. Too bad they weren’t nocturnal. Night time viewing would be a good way to pass the time while killing a couple beers.

I will say when autumn came around this year, I had so many yellow jackets trying to rob out my hives. All I needed to do was put some sugar water out along with about ten wasp bodies in there, and a week later, the jar was half full of dead wasps and no bees. Buuut, this is far more entertaining.

Tim W. More likely Vespula germanica - Euro-bloody-pean wasp. Got into AU & NZ a few years back & a pox on our ecology ever since. The mongrels are usually knocked back by European winters, but here the nests often survive over winter & become huge. The nasty little shits attack bee hives too.

Hey RODALCO2007! Were those electric insulators from Cambrian Plastics custom designed/made for you? I've got a situation where I need something similar to your setup, but could not find that exact thing on Cambrian's website. Thanks in advance! GB

Could anyone explain please what is the purpose of the "mini" power towers?
I know that it's to transfer electricity but why the disc insulators?
