The creatively deranged editing in your videos just never ceases to amaze me. Yours has got to be the most aesthetically unique content I've come across on RUclips, and it's always a blast to watch!

Definitely worth mentioning that every Painkiller AFTER Black Edition varies from "alright game but it's actually a fanmade mod sold as a full product" to "soulless rehash of Black edition with less content". Also, the devs of said fanmade mod released another Painkiller-like game called Dreamkiller, which got removed from Steam for some reason!
I'd never heard of dreamkiller, looks neat. Definitely smells like painkiller.
I'd heard of the non-black-edition content from totalbiscuit (I think?) way back in the day and I've avoided looking at it or thinking about it since. I was going to mention how hell and damnation was kind of lame (no physics, more expensive, less content) but thought "just get black edition" summed it up without including another minute of whining.
Overdose and battle Out Of Hell was good. Anything after that was awful.
Seriously. You have cattle carcasses with metal scaffolding with upside down human heads, women with yet engines, flying witches, american civil war doctors with buzzsaws, stitches patient with only half their arms and legs and orphans with knives who loose their middle torso and head.
And they pick the most generic and boring monk enemies and old catacomb areas for their "new" Painkiller game.
Painkiller Resurrection was apparently developed by former Painkiller and mod developers and were adviced by a catholic priest while being inspired by Dante's Inferno.
That is the dumbest ideas you can have for Painkiller.
He already went to hell in the first game with a train station, military base, town during the black plague, a snowy industrial bridge, asylum, a prison and they already had a lot of religious places like a giant cathedral and catacombs.
The expansion is called Battle Out Of Hell!
And Overdose is about a half angel half demon killing demons to get revenge on his angelic father WHILE going through purgatory which is depicted as back street gang filled city streets with corrupt cops.
Why would you need religious symbolism and advice in a game that doesn't care!

If modern web design and video game UI is any indication, then the best way to use a class like that is to do the opposite of what they tell you.
my favorite thematically fitting enemy in Painkiller are the ninjas and samurais in an austrian opera house and on a railroad bridge in Russia

Painkiller is great and I'm glad ya made a video of it! I've always especially loved the designs of the game in general, the enemies and the levels. There's just something about how exotic the levels can be, like a sole orphanage in the middle of an endless swamp, or an island in the middle of an ocean, only housing a monastery, no other islands to be seen elsewhere. Good stuff, same goes for the OST, the battle tracks are amazing, and the ambiance is pretty alright too.

It really seems like it gets glanced over a lot when people talk about older shooters. I don't know why, it''s not even a nostalgic game for me, I played it for the first time like 5 years ago and though it was cool.
The only reason I know pankiller exists is because of Gmod. But now you've made me want to play it. Once I get the money for it I definitely will.
I remember installing this game of the German 3 CD-copy last year, and now having approximately 160 hours of playtime.
This may be a Halloween game, but I know what to get my Shooter Enthusiast friend for Christmas.

I wasn't aware of the stake guns grenade trick until this playthrough of the game, it's unreal how much fun it is. Hopefully the old school revival shooter stuff keeps going and we get to see similar "trick guns" become a norm again.
I think the shock rifle from unreal tournament is another similar one and there's some cool stuff in ultrakill, I think, but I haven't played it yet.
@@foulenergy I only found out about the stake grenade combo until I watch your video, but I was a teenager when I played it last.
The Shock rifle in Unreal was probably my favourite weapon because of that combo, also ultrakill is on list for me too

I've heard the name painkiller before but for some reason I thought it was a 3rd person shooter or beat em up. Never would've guessed it was such a creative horde shooter like this! Like, in a world filled with standard shooter weapons, it feels like every gun in this game is some wacky sometimes stupid contraption that deals damage. Add to that the physics engine and I'm sold.

That is such a cool mechanic I wish they developed it more. Make the grenade more visible and a secondary larger hitbox just for your projectiles to make it easier to pull off.
Skill is good but I always think skill of use is always superior to skill to use. Being able to use it better should be the focus. Not focusing on being able to pull it off.
Or it becomes a secondary mini game you focus on instead of the actual game.
Another banger Foul. Friend of mine picked up Painkiller Black Edition earlier this month and the Necrogiant boss fight sucked me in with its general grim and gothic early 2000s aesthetics. Might pick it up now that I've seen more but apparently my buddy had an issue where the game was running constantly even without being opened, go figure I guess.
The guns in this game look super fuckin creative! It reminds me weirdly enough of dead space weapons, especially the kind you could make in 3
