    I finally disassembled my mikado thanks to you! Id waited over 5 years to try and never found instructions like yours. It always shorted and now i know it was junk and metal shavings in the motor. Managed to clean it 🎉🎉

    I wanted to offer my thanks for your videos. They carry a certain charm and zen quality as you talk through the disassembly/reassembly process. I just recently purchased a Kati Mikado and got a good bargain because the bottom pickup wire for the tender truck was bent and outside the pickups. Having watched your video, I was able to quickly bend the wire back into shape (it wasn’t THAT far out of alignment) and get the truck back on with the connector in place. Your videos are helping me with getting my feet (and mostly fingers) wet with n scale loco repair. I am just now getting into the hobby and want to be able to do the work myself. Your videos are encouraging and educational.

    Nice video Eric. You are definitely much braver than I am. You stay very calm which is had to do. It must be fairly difficult to do these videos while working on such a complex disassembly. I very much appreciated and enjoy your videos. Well done on this rebuild. Best wishes. Steve

      It was challenging, but next time, I will be more comfortable. Most of these are well taken care of. It’s luck to find one in a state I could attempt this, and think I have nothing to loose.

      Eric, I have been following your videos for a while and love your work. I am a first-time train modeler and have chosen an excursion steam locomotive for my n-scale layout. Seeing you take on another steam engine repair is great. Please keep the videos coming.

    Thanks for having the courage to take N scale locomotives apart! By doing so you encourage the rest of us. I’ve been able to resuscitate several locomotives that I thought were worn out but it turns out they were just dirty.

    One of the problems this model has is the electrical contact wipes on the inside of the driver wheels. Over time, they can become dislodged from the metal tires and loose electrical connectivity. I had to use a couple of driver wheels from a junked Kato D51 to get my Mikato running. (Kato no longer carries the original wheels.) This is an excellent disassembly/assembly video for this model. Well done.

      Yes I looked around, there isn’t any parts around. If you have the money, I saw some really nice one for sale.

      I know how you feel, but I think if you have a camera, you can record each step as you take the engine apart so you know where each tiny part goes and how it's oriented. Some N scale steam is not as complex as the one shown in this video, but they all require fairly steady fingers and slow, deep breathing to help keep yourself calm when you have to try several times to get a tiny piece to cooperate., as even expert Eric had to do off camera.🙂

    After watching your great video several times, I finally mustered up the courage to take a DCC converted Mikado Ebay purchase apart because there was at least one short in there under the boiler somewhere (there were two and one broken wire too and a missing locomotive weight as well - not a great purchase!). I would not have attempted this without access to your video! I also think your process of cleaning pieces while doing a major "overhaul" is a great idea. A couple of comments: I think the dismantling process should be to first remove the cab and then pry loose the boiler side pieces on each side. Prying loose the boiler side detail pieces before removing the cab puts additional stress on the lower cab tab areas. Do the little gears transferring motive power from the worm to the drivers really need oil? Do the driver bearings need oil? I watched your video on lubricating wheel sets too and I'm wondering whether oiling those parts may increase the opportunity to transfer oil to the rails that I know you don't want to happen. Long note - thanks again for your great videos.

    • @watchtrainsnow1099
      @watchtrainsnow1099  Год назад +1

      Yes, you can put oil on all the gears and bearings.

    • @watchtrainsnow1099
      @watchtrainsnow1099  2 года назад +1

      I use just the micro fibre. Just friction is usually enough to remove dirt.
