We used to go all the time in the 80's & early 90's but with windsurfers, lots of sails and party people. What didn't change is the wind, beautiful natural surroundings and positive spirit! I'm learning kitesurfing and hope to go back there one day. You didn't mention it but it's also a great place to see migratory birds.
Nice :) hopefully you will be back there soon to kite!
Really useful info. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy your channel.
Hatteras is probably the best kite spot in North America to learn Kitesurf. We drive there from Montreal every year for the last 20 years.
That’s awesome! Do you always stay in the same house or change it up?
I do a trip every year and am on my 5th anniversary of it this coming year. Found everything you said to be spot on, and even learned a thing or two. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks :) glad you enjoyed it!
I love you guys for your videos and your crew. My best go to Kite videos on You tube.
This Hatteras Video Is what I needed before taking the long haul to the outer banks.
Thank you, Thank you Thank you.
Thank you so much! 😊
God I got to step up my group management skills. That's pretty next level! The DJ parties with all the equipment 😄
Love the idea of the 1 dinner each, but I definitely wouldn't choose meals that require the whole day. That's not a Beef wellington type of night.
Either any kind of stew that you can leave for like 6 hours and go kite. Or a big BBQ. Or have hors d'oeuvre ready and make people eat later so you have like 2-3 hours to make someting
Looks like a great trip and loads of fun.
We look forward to it every spring :)
I just hope one day I’ll be able to go there!! It’s looks like the best place for kiteboarding. Nice video 👌
Thanks! It really is a great place for a kite trip!
Perfection! Entertaining from start to finish.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Love your video!!!
Thanks Vlad 🙂
Great video and awesome crew. We have been to Hatteras many times and the advice in this video is right on!
Thanks Fred!
Your group of friends looks amazing! I love this videos (an others too).... i hope one day the wind will make me drift to you guys! Thank you!
Thanks so much! Hopefully someday we’ll meet on the water 🤙
Hatters offers one of the best kiteboarding experiences; warm and shallow waters, consistent winds and very affordable.
It’s the best! Can’t wait for Hatty 2020!
Great guide guys. Hopefully I could ride there next year. 🤙🤙🤙
Thanks! Hopefully you will 😀🤙
as always awesome video
We had some help for this one ;) thanks!
OBX is amazing! i cant wait to go back. I usually stay with the owner of Epic Kiteboarding, Dimitri. Nothing better then OBX and do the downwinders.
It’s one of our favourite - if not THE favourite - of the kite trips we’ve done. Bummed we couldn’t go this spring but maybe we can manage to go in the fall if things ease back up. Staying with Dimitri sounds like fun :D
@@OurKiteLife From what i understood spring (half may) is the best time to go.
Yes staying with Dimitri is alot of fun, and deadly. He loves to submit you to the dimitri bootcamp which basicly means you will excersize more in a week then you would in a lifetime. "lets start with playing tennis this morning (06:00) i have some semi pro friends....." Then its time to go on a stand up paddle board for a few hours. "oow its windy lets go kiting!"
And then around 20:00 you get lucky and catch breakfast.
Then there is the wake up routine with a camera and voodoo masks and anything else that can scare you right awake.
But holy crap its fun! Next time you are there you should send him an email telling you are there with a big group, he loves that stuff.
We are on Oak Island right now... it’s sketchy because there’s not much wind but there’s a good seasonal crew that helps out a lot ( Oak Island is South of hatteras)
Nice! We’ll have to look into Oak Island :)
Adopt me guys , wanna come too in your trips to Cape Hatteras 😁 . What a great group of kiting folks , good vibes love it .
ps: What if someone does not know how to cook 🤷🏽♂️ ?
Haha thanks! If can’t cook you just pray you’re paired with someone who can 😄
I have never kiteboarded but with your videos i now am looking in the Dallas area for lessons.... then can i come on this hatteras trip with y'all lol
Haha that’s awesome!! South Padre is apparently very good too :)
great video guys. I believe its Row-dan-thea. So the locals tell me.
Thanks! And thanks for the tip 😀
Its Ro-dan'-thee as in flea. The th is as in thick.
Love Hatteras, great video. Got caught up though in the intro, Hatteras ends at the village of Hatteras, not Frisco. Downwinders from there on the ocean and good kiting sound side near some of the islands not far from ferry terminal. Rodanthe, the "e" at the end is pronounced, as in Ro-dan-thee.
Hey Randall, thanks for the corrections :) we’ve visited Hatteras village but haven’t had the chance to kite there yet - maybe next spring!
Our Kite Life we have been to the Fami... house in Rodanthe for couple of years, but now I think that will be dead with the new bridge :( We really like Rodanthe because of the wide range of kitable wind directions (from S-W to N-E winds) and also for surf spot just just on the other side of the road . Btw, I’m trying to share you a Hatteras Kite Trip video that I did a couple years ago. (for some reason my link did not show up in my first comment probably reported as spam in RUclips . I wished I could share it to you but you can find it on Vimeo with keywords “Follow The Sun, Follow The Wind”) . Continue your good work!
Thanks for sharing, the video is very nice. Captured Hatteras perfectly, complete with a beautiful sunset session! 😊
Our Kite Life thanks!
Planning a road trip myself, albeit that it's 22hrs drive from Texas, and was curious when in the Spring you organize your trip for ?
We usually go for end of April / beginning of May. Mid-May the summer rates on the houses kick in
I highly recommend Puerto Rico. Since is part of USA is easy to travel same money a infinite thing to do when you're not kiting in blue water.
Thanks for the recommendation! Any kite spots or hotels/accommodations you would suggest? We’re always looking to explore new places :)
Amazing video, super informative! Thanks for doing this great work! Would you say this is the best/closest kiting location if you are coming from NYC?
Glad you liked it! Yes - it’s probably the best/closest wind destination to NYC
GF and I came down here for 4 days for lessons and got skunked all 4 days ☹️.
Beach is nice and the Wright Brothers exhibit is cool.
Getting skunked is the worst. Knock on wood it hasn’t happened to us yet. We normally go last week of April or first week of May. Have friends who were skunked for a week and they ended up going home early. Always a risk when chasing the wind... never a guarantee. Hopefully you’ll have better luck if you return to OBX in the future!
Our Kite Life we’ll get there. We where hoping to get up on our boards before season’s end...
There’s always next year.
Thanks for channel, we enjoy the content.
On our way home.
...with a slightly used 13M Cabrinha Drifter and a brand spankin new 9M Cabrinha Moto...
Now we pray for da windz...🤞
Nice! We hope you get some good winds for your new kite!!
If you want to be frugal and flexible you can stay at the various campgrounds
Good point! We haven’t tried this as we go in shoulder seasons and you never know if it will be chilly or warm
Whats the best time of the year for a hatteras trip?
Spring or fall. We prefer spring (April/May)
Our group from NJ goes to Hatteras for a couple of weeks in the spring and fall. Different houses because of wind direction.
Do you guys usually just go in the spring?
Nice! We typically go in the spring each year, but Yuri has gone in the fall as well
Want to go there because of your video, but everything looks expensive..no money left after buying flysurfer gear.lol
I hear ya :) it's actually a very affordable trip if you go with a group and not in the summertime
Do you still go every year? I live in Charlotte and go pretty much every weekend that the wind looks good as well as a longer trips with friends at the end of spring and beginning of fall every year
We do - usually in the spring, sometimes in the fall too. It’s such a great wind destination :) you’re lucky you can go so often!
HAHA I like Dawn's comment about the drive, "I slept the whole way"
Haha, Dawn knows how to get to Hatty the right way 😄
Downwinders? What is that? Why we didn’t do that yet?
Cause we have to pratice them in Cuba first :P
I would love to join your group for your next trip. Where do I sign up?
Our house for 2020 is full! But you can check out CKSS- they do Hatteras trips in the spring too, usually same week as us :)
Our Kite Life - thanks for the reply. Will look into it
@@mikerogers2319: I do on every year in April as well... often I have an extra room or two available. If you email me and we have space, I'd love to have you come with us. We've done almost everything Laurie has, albeit we're a little bit of an older crowd, so the House Party is not something we've done.
@@kevingirard1656 Thanks Kevin. Being a bit older myself, I don't mind skipping the party for more sleep... Will get in touch with you.
Hey Guys! How about you try magdalene islands next?? Its unreal!
That’s definitely on our list of places to go!! 😀
Great video! Thanks very much and keep it up! and, join #TeamTrees
Thanks! Will do :)
👍👏🏻🤙🏻🤘🏻👌
😀🤙✨
Celsius? This is America (😅)
awesome....dont forget sunset cruises....#missphitty...www.missphitty.com and fishing as well on flat days
Thanks Greg! Good points we forgot to include :)
How many Russians are there? :)
How many Russians are there, or that we bring with us? 😉
I always run into French Canadians there XD
OBX sucked. Huge disappointment. Zero wind.
Ouch. Sorry to hear that. There’s always a risk of getting skunked, unfortunately. When did you go?
@@OurKiteLife our dates were October 9-14. I didn't know the winds were this unreliable here (at least during October 😢) my bf and I are new to kiteboarding...looks like we will have to stick with long island for the winter months
From what we've heard, fall is usually a pretty good time to go for wind in OBX. Sorry that wasn't the case for you guys. How is the kiting at Long Island?
@@OurKiteLife it actually felt pretty similar (when it comes to training in waist deep water) we have marsh lands here so we use that to set up the kites (need jet ski to get to them) as for the wind...still too new to the sport to tell you what our averages are. Yesterday we had 22-25mph on shore wind in the flat marshlands...of course I had work that day 😅
