    A very early buggy kite, the Spider Modulus from the UK, had zippered sections. The range of sizes was huge, from like 2m to about 10m. IIRC that was about 1995.

    It’s not an infringement. Patents only forbid you to use something described in a patent for commercial use. No one can sue you if you put this together for yourself. Only if you start selling lifejackets with speakers the patentholder can stop you from producing and selling it.
    But the video is truly hilarious and your self trials made me laugh hard!

    You guys are awesome!👍🏼 😎😄the most entertaining kite video I have watched since long! I personally believe that when somebody brings an easy to ride twintip hydrofoil - this may really change the game.
    Although Hydrofoils developed a lot in the last few years, they still require a level of skills 80% or more of kiters never have...although the drone kiting is also a nice one - maybe a bit noisy...🤣

    • @OurKiteLife

      the noisy part is actually something that we have not thought about. Our phantom 4 is def noisy ;)

    Rotating bindings are used by many people who kite race on snow. I made my own for regular snowkiting. Just shave the teeth off the centre mounting disk, and make sure you get the mounting screw torque right so they are not too loose. They totally saved my knees! (not needed with regular TT footstraps though)

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  4 года назад

      Good to know, thanks! May try this come winter time :)

    • @foamnfibr
      @foamnfibr 4 года назад +2

      I needed to add some thin shims (beer can aluminum) under the disks so that the rotation felt stiff and not moving during normal riding, but could be twisted to the right stance after a transition. Buy spare disks from a shop instead of messing up good bindings, just in case! Feels weird the first day, but I'd never go back

    Hello, great video and a good test of our Adjustable Area Kite, #6 on your list. We have a few prototypes made that solve some of the issues you experienced with your adjustable area kite. We are currently trying to produce small batches of these kites for travelers but we are converting existing kites now! We also custom make high-performance Kite Surfboards designed for aerial stunts.

    • @guztkites8373
      @guztkites8373 4 года назад

      Our Kite Life The patent process was fun but laborious! The concept seem as simple as just removing some surface area but it’s much more complicated the that we have to account for the change in the aspect ratio, leading edge drag, and the actual management of the excess strut and of course making sure the kite in either configuration is safe and doesn’t have anything to snag onto the lines. If you are interested in riding a prototype or discussing the design process of either the kite or our predator series of boards I’d be happy to get in touch. - Clayton

    Variable shaped kites - just like a birds wing. Sea gulls will fold their wings in almost to their body to fly in high winds. Also, I used to own a wipika kite where you could roll up a section and velcro it - changed the wing tip shape.

      @WibovanNoort 4 года назад +2

      That thought has passed my mind a lot when I see seagulls effortlessly navigating gale conditions. If you can control it from the bar you can take off, expand the wing and glide forever..how cool would that be.

    Fantastic! Loved the video. Great job with all the research & DIY testing to pull this video together. Lots of laughs too. My choice is the patent covering the rotating bindings. I think it has the biggest market potential and also the most likely to find a practical working solution. So for on snow, it is the main reason I use skis instead of a snow board, as the skis are much easier on the joints. Again great video, loved it.

      Hey John, Rudo (Anton) Enserink here - also designer/inventor of the OR shift bar. Thank you for your reply; good choice! And thanks to Our Kite Life for this GREAT summary!
      The rotating pads or straps are still on the list for further development, and I've been riding prototypes on and off for the last 10 or so years. The last iteration really worked well, and improved stance and riding comfort notably. There's a negative with (partly) rotating pads though, at least for me as they didn't give me the locked-in feel you need to really pop the board. When jumping or doing trick you need this level of confidence. I'm still sitting on new ideas but I'm drowned in better paying/non kiteboarding projects.
      feel free to have a browse around on my web site www.enserinkdesign.com! cheers, Rudo

      @@Eldorudo Great web site. I especially liked you invitation to stop by for a coffee. Heel mooi. Looks like you have had the opportunity to develop and patent products for several industries, sailing, kiting - wow fun stuff.
      I agree the position of the footstrap or binding needs to be "locked" or the rider will loose confidence to push herself to the limits, which is a big part of what kiting is all about. So what if the rider could, pull up on a mechanism to release the foot strap assembly, or better yet some sequence of applied forces to give a unique signal to the assembly to release. Then the rider could control the rotational position of the strap, for all riding orientations (x4).
      Would be curious what you have tried so far. Too bad I'm all the way in Calgary AB! Would be fun to brainstorm over a coffee!!
      Cheers

    An invention I thought of a,couple years ago and think often of making a prototype of is a rigid frame kite. Not an inflatable, not a foil kite. Think of a camping tent that you insert collapsible poles into. The poles would also be made with surrounding lightweight foam material sort of like pool noodles to keep it afloat when you crash it.
    My idea was inspired by....kites.

    • @Rick_Cavallaro
      @Rick_Cavallaro 4 года назад

      A potential problem with that idea is that you actually want to have a rounded leading edge. This would be tough to accomplish with a rigid frame.

    Hey, Laurie & Co. Great channel. I've watched your videos for a while, but this is my first time leaving a comment.
    I'm not a kiteboarder...yet. I tried it once years ago, and it was the most comprehensively difficult activity I'd ever attempted. I was in terrible shape back then...so I gave up.
    In the meantime, though, I've gotten very proficient on a trainer. I rock a Prism™ Tensor™ 5.0 and have achieved a level of what I can only describe as artistry with it. I weighed ~213lbs. when I bought it last year; I'm currently down to ~158lbs., so I enjoy some really great jumps these days...even if they're exclusively on land.
    I'm ready for the next challenge, but I'm hesitant to dive into actual in-water kiteboarding for a couple of reasons. The first: I always fly my kite in the park with my dog, and moving to the water would effectively remove him from the equation. Setting that aside, though...
    The Tensor comes with a convertible control system that can function as either a traditional three-(3)-line kite with a control bar or a more advanced four-(4)-line kite with dual handles. I *LOVE* the dual-handled setup so much more than the control bar because of the enhanced precision and wider range of movement it allows.
    Kiteboarding all seems to be based on the control bar model. I understand why: safety has to rule the day. However, my engineer's brain can't stop wondering if anyone has ever developed an innovation--presumably a special kind of harness--aimed at translating the four-(4)-line, dual-handled setup to a workable in-water model?
    This video seemed like the perfect place to pose this particular question, as trying to do an internet search on something so specific is nearly impossible. Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance if you have time for a reply.

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  4 года назад

      Hi Marcus, the only thing that comes to mind is a rope attached to handles which can be used with harness. Yuri tried with a landboard about a dozen years ago, but that's it when it comes to our experience. Not sure it would be feasible for water due safety, as you mentioned, and the lack of controlling the angle of attack/depower. www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=5226

    I can share a free idea with you all. Here in WA that's western Australia. Not Washington. We kite really late and into the night. I have a green water activated fishing lure light. On the end of the bar floats and now on the board. You can buy any colour and you can see your board of you loose it. And the direction your kiting if your out with friends. They are 3 for 15 bucks. Off eBay. I will copy the link and share it. I'm generally out by myself as I finish work late at the end of my swing. But it's good to destress.... I have taken a photo of the light on my board but can't share it.

    Short lines on the drone for less transmission loss
    But... I’ll never wait for weeks for wind like I am now !

    Wow, you guys are very new and well.. inexperienced. A. Look up pulley bar. B. You should have no problem steering with one hand all the time. It’s a intermediate level skill required after your first few jumps.
    C. I’ll let you off the hook. Most riders don’t advance beyond basic riding. But if you’re gonna create an educational channel you should dig a little deeper

      Thank you! We live in a light wind spot and foil kites are great in lighter wind. We still own and use inflatable kites, just not as often.

      @@OurKiteLife Hey!
      No, I didn't try it, but I like that you did it! Was very interesting! 😁
      I guess the function can be improved so that it works just fine. That's just a matter of work and time and would/could be done by the manufacturer or inventor.
      I think this invention would be a plus in safety when your kite starts to loop and your main safety fails and you don't want to lose the kite (safety leash). An extra safety option is never bad.
      I would like that on my kite but I don't want to work that out, because a patent can be very expensive and time consuming to make. And there's still no absolute safety that a large manufacturer pays for your patent rights, because the engineers probably find ways to overcome your function principle by construction rules or produce in a country where your patent isn't registered (I'm studying engineering). I also don't know why no one made it already?
