In this buyer's guide, we have Honda Civic 8th Gen (2012) and Honda Civic 9th Gen (2013) in Pakistan with us. We will be taking a deep look at their interior, exterior, performance and practicality.
Honda Civic 8th Gen was launched in 2006 and it was soon named Honda Civic Reborn. The name Reborn was given due to it’s futuristic interior and exterior, topped with a potent 1.8L i-VTEC (R18) engine. Honda Civic 8th gen remained in production for about 6 years, until it was replaced by the newer Honda Civic, 9th gen in 2012.
9th gen Civic was evolved from the 8th gen, which was instantly evident from it’s exterior and interior changes. Both cars have a lot of similarities, however, 9th gen Civic had some new features like LCD i-MID display, cruise control and Android based touch screen infotainment system.
Honda Civic 8th gen was the benchmark of performance in the Pakistani automotive industry. It’s i-VTEC 1.8 engine produced 140HP and 174 NM of Torque. Both generations of Honda Civic 1.8 were offered in 4 variants i.e. Hard-top Honda Civic with manual transmission, Hard-top Honda Civic with Prosmatec transmission. Honda Civic Oriel with manual transmission and Honda Civic Oriel with Prosmatec transmission.

Later on, with the introduction of 9th generation Honda Civic 1.8 2013, a few incremental changes were made in it’s interior and exterior. The main changes included:
1. Halogen Projection Headlights
2. LCD display for i-MID screen
3. Cruise Control
4. Android Navigation System
5. Front and Rear parking cameras
6. Lane Change indicator (3 Blinkers)
7. Dedicated Eco Button for fuel efficiency
8. Single Zone Digital Climate Control

Underrated as heck!!
I bought and kept 0 meter 2015 model 9th generation civic for 3 years and enjoyed the most comfort & luxurious experience of driving. Loved that car and really miss that car a lot.

one of the best reviews of both cars but you guys missed a few key features that were added in the 9th Generation which were NOT available in reborn.
1. 2 airbags
2. Retractable mirrors
3. cruise control
4. height adjustable driver seat
5. steering controls were standard accross all variants (which you mentioned)
6. Digital climate control which was not available in any other local car till 2016.
7. improvements in engine like you dont need to replace any timing belt or generator belt.
8. MOST IMPORTANT Immobilizer was standard accross all variants
Yes, we all love reborn but if you look at the features there is no comparison between these two cars. Reborn seems outdated while rebirth has features which are not even available in any car even now except civic x and grande.

You are right that reborn also had these features but they only offered it in the top of the line variants while these are standard in all variants of Rebirth.

8 months later.. the 8 gen goes for 20lac+ and the 9 gen goes for 25 lacs+sometime more 30lac

There is a difference of 1 hp between the engines of the two models (and also in the 10th generation as compared to that of 9th). The later model has a better tweaked engine. The transmission i believe is also different. I have kept both. The earlier was somewhat jerky.

Saadi Ullah it is essentially and basically the same engine with minor tweaks. The engine code is R18 while A and Z are the tweaks mentioned here n the review as well
