every time i watch one of these wedge videos I feel like I'm watching a cirque de soleil for surfers and bodyboarders. i have a stupid question--do the surfers tend to not wear leashes to their board because the board or leash could snap back and injure them with that much wave power? Also I absolutely love that the bodyboarder guy tried standing up on his board with his fins on:)

I nearly broke my back surfing alone, I was a surf life saver had skills but you can't tame the power of a wave, it's equivalent to a mouse in a washing machine, even if u don't break bones the dumping from a wave will give sand rashes on the skin after sliding on the bottom.
I'm amazed by every wave made standing. That looks so hard!
The double front flip guy at 2 minutes in. That was a charging beast of a wave and he bossed that power like a master. Poet warrior in motion there.

1:33 to 1:47. Impressive ride. I think it says a lot for non-leash riding, at least by experts. In terms of front flips, even little ones can be fun. I caught a lifeguard coming in from visiting a family, riding a small broken wave. End of ride, front flip, landing on his feet, fins still on. Perfect. And yeah, high end surfing has become pretty gymnastic (and modern gymnastic evolved out of circus acts).
As far as Wedge waves go that was a mushy nothing it had some size but hardly any power.
