No disrespect or arrogance towards Pumas and English fans but my prediction is The All Blacks and The Springboks will win their respective Semi Finals. My reason is both NZ and South Africa have too much pace, power, skill and depth also key players peaking at the right time and injury free squads. All Blacks vs Springboks is a dream World Cup Final scenario, the story writes itself. Both Countries with 3 World Cups each and going for their fourth World Cup at a neutral venue in a neutral Country, it's box office rugby.

Love to see New Zealanders praising and recognising the importance of their team winning the defence..it was not that long ago that Fozzie was being put to sleep by watching a team that focuses on playing without the ball, dominating the gain line, making dominant tackles and kicking the ball back to the attack minded teams to see if they can do anything with the ball. Having said that , as a Bok fan, I was on my feet shouting for the magnificent all blacks ABs as theytold Ireland to sit back down. - hopefully see you in an all SH final. The boks scored tries from unstructured play cause they couldn't do it from structured play cause they weren't allowed to by ref. France were given leeway to do basically anything at breakdowns and playing the ball on ground. Listen, all credit to O Keeff he didn't allow french crowd to get the better of him at the end of game. I think that Ireland choking is not a fair assessment because they were still incredibly good. The problem for Ireland was that the AB's had the tactics 100% right to beat Ireland, but the AB's had to play at one of the highest levels they have ever played to beat Ireland ..... the defense at the end of the match won it. 30 plus phases without causing a penalty has probably never happened. If Ireland played the AB's again they would probably be able to prepare tactics to better compete. In this match they were surprised by the tactics and could not find a solution to the AB tactics during the game.

    • @billbobby461

What tactics? The same tactics they've always had, play the ref illegally slow the ball, cynical penalties to stop line breaks and as usual at world cups the refs let it go because they believe they are saving a spectacle! Jeez people are actually praising Ben O'Keefe for "letting the game flow" that's nonsense he just didn't penalise infringements 😂. Any ref could do that 😂😂

    • @SlowfingerJC

@@billbobby461 Ireland lost too many breakdowns because the AB's were flooding them, which should have the disadvantage of leaving space, but Ireland couldn't take advantage of it because the AB's kept coming up with the ball. Seeing Aaron Smith crying after Sam Whitelock got the turnover showed how much that win meant and how determined (and probably a bit scared) they were. Like it is for someone like Sexton, it would've been a shame for him and Whitelock to go out like that.
I really hope the ABs go into the ARG game knowing that they need to be just as switched on in order to win. ARG can beat us if we don't show up.

Springboks had to defend a lot more than NZ had to vs the French and conceded same amount of point. Not quite, I'd the '07 team wouldn't have gone on to such heights if it wasn't for that tragedy. That team learnt from that loss and now it's up to Ireland to do the same. They have the best infrastructure in the world atm for funneling new talent through to the national side so if they can instill the lessons from matches like this into the culture of the team the future is looking good. Ireland may go backwards in some areas just as we have since the McCaw era but like the All Blacks they know how to win and at the end of the day it's about the team not individual players.

Passionate Springbok here, well done with the game this weekend, it was one of the best ever. I've always said that what the Northern hemisphere lack, is they don't bring the dog to the fight. The Springboks will die for us and so will the all blacks for their support. We saw it this weekend. Nz came in as underdogs and the boks played against the home team and 80 000 crazy french fans but we brought the dog to the fight and that was the major difference.
We respect the AB's immensely and hope to play each other in the final. Dont worry about us against the English, against them it's personal. We wil bring whatever it takes, you'll see.

England need to do something rather than SA having to do something to win that game. SA will accumulate, and they have the threats.
One area France got crushed was bombs to the mid field/wing zone mid field. If England can have set play off the SA midfield bomb it will be interesting. I don't think Borthwick is smart enough however. *I think this is very exploitable because SA is comfortable not playing with the ball, but they stretch their big men by making them run around the field.
Of both the semis you'd give the English the best chance at an upset. Don't forget they are the only unbeaten team in the tournament now.
The most ironic situation is if both Argentina and England won. Then which side of the draw was actually the hardest?!?
All in all, if we get the same quality of rugby we got on the weekend, then all the fans are the winner.

SA may have dropped those tackles, but that is part and parcel of their defensive structure....the missed tackles are actually players shooting up past the ball carrier to close down opportunities for the ball carrier. Those are then counted as "missed" tackles. Even if France made 14 line breaks, SA use scramble defense like no one else, and it's also part of the plan if the rush defense slips up on occasion.

Most of the Irish commentary I listened to focused on this aspect, as if that more or less had to guarantee their progress through to the final. There also seems to have been no consideration that NZ may have adapted since their series loss to Ireland. I don’t know if this also impacted the Irish rugby team as well, but ultimately Ireland we’re taught the same painful lesson New Zealand had drummed home tournament after tournament between 1991 and 2011 - reputations and rankings mean nothing in knock-out rugby.

Consistency has been an issue for us over the last few years based mainly on not deciding players in key positions. Jordie Barret and Rieko changed the midfield. Lomax and degroot changed the forward power and at 6 we finally found a Jerome Kano replacement. If we remain fit, we have a very good chance of winning on Friday and the following Saturday.

I'm a big fan of this show and of James, but his comments about Sexton was utter nonsense. Sexton was not saying that Ireland were a sure thing for the final and looking beyond NZ. He was simply saying that is was incredible as an Irish player, looking at where we came from in the game, that we were being looked at as a genuine contender and the players felt they were, justifiably. That in no way was Sexton writing off NZ. I was disappointed in a lot of the NZ chatter in the build up. Gregopr Paul was writing nonsense in the NZ Heraland bout Ireland being unlikeable and how NZ didn't like Ireeland etc. I get it, you needed this to try and get you an edge, but it was ridiculous and a bit embarrassing to rely on that.

Has the "Match Official Team" system worked at this World Cup? In any sport a great game is always one where the officials go unnoticed and the players are given the freedom to express themselves and just play. As a TV viewer (like the vast majority of any audience), I have frequently found the reliance on and the involvement of the TMO a distraction which extended game time, disrupted the flow and allowed certain teams extended water breaks at crucial times. Some TMO's appeared to love centre stage and got involved for silly matters and then just did not "see" some obvious issues. The very best games were where the Ref "owned" the game and took control and made their own decisions - Barnes and Pyper are examples. Have refereeing standards been diluted by the seeming reliance / safety net of the TMO's? Touch Judges also appear to have become less important. When you select the officials for the Final - do you select the best Ref or the best TMO team? My point is that the TMO teams have become too prominent / dominant at the expense of good refereeing by the "man in charge", who should always get himself into the best position to make the best decisions, but also is in the best position to "read" the vibe of the game. Players want consistency, good communication and fairness from the "man in the middle" who needs to make real time decisions based on what he sees (with the assistance of the Touch Judges where relevant). Rugby has opened itself up to follow Footballers in rolling and screaming every time a hard hit is made in the hopes of attracting TMO attention to get the absolute best camera angle to milk a Penalty or a Red Card especially with the focus on Head Injuries. What happens at the lower levels where there are no or few cameras or TMO's" Focus needs to be on attracting, growing / developing and supporting referees, capable of managing a game to the best of their abilities.

The Irish were not ready to win that game. They were ahead of themselves. A classic error to make in knockout games. Furthermore, if that was a final, I think they would have been crushed by the event.

There was no expectation in Ireland that this would be a walkover. What utter nonsense. The difference for Ireland was that, for the first time ever in a world cup, they had a real chance of beating the ABs. The game was won, in the end, by Barrett's tremendous block when Ireland got the ball over the line in the 72nd minute.

That Ireland attack is something else. You have to be disciplined to not bite on the runners which means they are a high chance of breaking gain line every phase. ABs need to employ some rugby league minds into their attacking play. That set-up across the field will be a difference maker to unlock the defense

Irish and other team thinks, AB can not through the Semifinals, don’t forget, this is the World Cup, not the test as Irish beating AB in the past.

Ireland have shown that they are not the same team of 2019... I don't see that being Ireland's last scalp over the South

I’m not being over confident or arrogant…but I have the ABs just pipping the PUMAS……..and the same with the BOKs over ENG…..all TEAMS have experience, talent, skill, strength and heart….but I believe with all my heart it’s gonna be ABS vs BOKS final simply coz they the WC Kings
The hype over the northern hemisphere is real…and they are great teams…but are they finals TEAMS??????……Ireland particularly….chokers tag perhaps stays out of the fact they keep facing incredible TEAMS in the quarterfinals who simply just had enough to play the whole 80mins
Eng just got lucky against FIJI and capitalised on mistakes…nuff said
ABs and BOKs will be hard to beat….

Change the knockout finals phase to a NRL final series model. Keep the pool play and than the 8 teams that proceed to the finals are ranked on their current world rankings.
The finals series takes place over four weeks.
    Week one
The top 4 teams play qualifying finals (QF) (1 vs 4, 2 vs 3) and the bottom 4 play elimination finals (EF) (5 vs 8, 6 vs 7).
    Week two
    1st semi-final:
Loser of 1st QF v winner of 1st EF
    2nd semi-final:
Loser of 2nd QF v winner of 2nd EF
    Week three
    1st preliminary final:
Winner of 1st QF vs winner of 2nd SF.
    2nd preliminary final:
Winner of 2nd QF vs winner of 1st SF.
    Week four
    World Cup Final:
Winner of 1st PF meets winner of 2nd PF.
I feel this system rewards teams that have been performing consistently over the last RWC cycle and gives more high quality games for fans!

Hi guys, long time listener here. I’ve got a question from me and a few fellow fans of ARP, we all listen to your show religiously. Our question is regarding the option to kick the ball away inside the 75-80 minute mark when you are in front. I get that you can back your defence, but by holding on to the ball are you not prolonging the period of attack and therefore delaying the period you may have to defend for? Furthermore, why would you box kick 20-40m for a marginal contestable when you could hoof it down there and commit to defending in a better part of the field? Talk us through this, no doubt Rassy and Fozzy have crunched the numbers here and they have landed on the same conclusion. We are kiwis, I almost understood it when we kicked the ball to Ireland with 4/5 minutes to go, but then watching SA kick the ball to France with 2 minutes to go seemed crazy. If it’s tight in the final with -5 mins to go, would you expect the team leading to kick the ball away?

Who really care about this semifinals now? 🤔I mean, we've got 2 teams which should not be here: England and Argentina... Vs 2 teams who will easily win. France and Ireland heartbreaking defeats have killed the charm and the suspense of this competition. Stadiums will be empty, with french and irish fans enjoying life in terraces.

England carriers was not must making try's... they was able letting them defend. Fiji sadly was giving england winning with penalties and kicking goals 🥴
English kicking was most dangerous and winning elements?
Sadly england was holding off fijian with defence... sadly for fijian game was not quickly running, fijian line outs also loosed to many sadly sad
Next matches and world cup fijian having more discipline and less fouls they going far🙏
And official ruling pacifican same like another 🙏

You guys are twisting what was said, the coaching staff didn't call for the HIA. The coaching staff asked to check. And you don't ask why was there no slo-mo footage on the tackle on the head of the SA players? You cannot compliment the SA team and coaching staff, without reverting to form and stereotyping us as crooks and just physical brutes.

James, Who thought it was going to be a walkover? New Zealand may want to think that because it ties in better with the idea of revenge after the last few years, but I'd be fascinated to know who thought it would be a walkover.

As a Bok fan, I thought that one of the big reasons SA beat France was the ability to almost shut Aldritt out of the match. Vermeulen wasn't flashy but ne neutralized Aldritt massively which paid off over the match because he is pivotal to France's success.
On the Kwagga turnover, Nigel Owens reminded us that putting your hands on the floor is not in and of itself an infringement. It's only when you use your hands to hold your weight. You can use your hand- he only used one- to get your balance which he thought that Kwagga did.

No disrespect, but Im not interested at all to watch SA vs. NZ. Looking forward for England vs Argentina. As for Argentina, the goal is clear and they are determined, if not in this competition or future, they will lift that trophy.

I find it incredible that world rugby is given a New Zealand ref, the ability to decide who will face New Zealand in the final. If he decides that New Zealand has a better chance against England, he can subtly sabotage South Africa’s chances to ensure that England wins in the semi-final. This is such a blatant conflict of interest that it should never be allowed. I am surprised that The South African rugby authorities have not complained about this situation..
