- This is the Video Games Live Civilization IV segment written by Christopher Tin. We entitled this piece Civilization IV - Baba Yetu (Duet Version). It features original Baba Yetu singer Ron Ragin (on the right) who performs with us from time to time and was present for the world premiere of this piece at our 2nd Hollywood Bowl performance in 2006. It also showcases the vocal talents of Kendrew Heriveaux (on the left) whom we met performing for us during one of our shows in 2009 and sometimes performs with us as well.
Composer Christopher Tin put out his own CD entitled "Calling All Dawns" which featured the song Baba Yetu as well as other original material. Highly recommended. Игры
2023 still watching and listening! Fantastic song and performance! ❤
13 years later and I’m still coming back for more.
I love this rendition even all these years later
I love how the conductor smiles at both singers at 02:46 and when the crowd cheers after that. good times!
MAGNUM OPUS!
Worlds national anthem.
I remember watching this 12 years ago when I was in college on PBS... I just showed it to my 16 month old daughter and she was so entranced, she wouldn't blink and asked to play it again! This song is POWERFUL and everyone here performed it so well.
So wonderful you were able to share this with your daughter ❤️
I didn't realize there were 2 soloists in this. I went to my first Video games live concert and i have to say this song alone was worth buying the CD. I was driving home and it came on. It brought tears to my eyes. The passion you can hear in the singers voices touches my heart. They are amazing. This piece is amazing. Christopher Tin you are genius. These singers are genius. How the heck do i get to be part of the choir in VGL? I miss being in a choir.
This rendition makes all the hairs on my body go on alert. I love this song, I love Sid Meier, I love Christopher Tin, I love Civ IV....thank you.
still get chills. this maybe my favourite male duet ever.
I love the little move the director does right before the music comes back in. This is by far the best version of this song I can find on the internet. Listen to it. Now.
Did you see the smile on the conductor? He was positively beaming. That's what happens when people feel empowered by a group endeavor. It's fascinating seeing people's inherent group behavior.
what a masterpiece song it is.
This masterpiece gives me the shivers !!!
This....gave me so many chills. Combination of good music, huge live orchestra, and "Our Father" in Swahili.
One of my favourite VGL pieces.
Congratulations Christopher Tin on the Grammy nomination, really deserved.
Magical, absolutely magical
Congratulations to Christopher Tin and Video Games Live!!
this is the best song i have ever heard in a video game before. I used to sit and listen to the opening music over and over :)
I would have loved to have been there and seen that live, amazing performance!
i play this on piano its pretty cool
this has been on my ipod for years :)
Still the best version of this song IMO. Heriveaux and Ragin are magical together.
Beautiful
Totally awesome!
3:35 and on.....masterpiece
Since the first time i heard it i loved it ! Now i see why :)
After all these years.. Did not realize.. This account if truly real/Tommy Tallarico is one of the folks who created Video Games Live! Thank you! ❤
This is f**king awesome! Like the game so much!
The Lord's Prayer - definitely more beautiful in this language with this music than in English.
3:56 bromance~
@TommyTallarico Historical moment!! Very exciting! Congrats!!

@angelsgrace1 I don't believe VGL has a musical group themselves. Rather, wherever they travel, they select the region's musical group to perform the VGL music.
@dreammh they pick the orchestra/symphony of the area, when i saw it in NJ, it was the NJ symphony and the Hudson Choir, I forget who it was for the NY show at the beacon, but it was listed as MSG entertainment
this is nicely balanced, when i saw it in london the orchestra over powered the lead vocals
Are there any other live song recordings where the audience abrupts in spontanious applause mid song in this fashion? Incredibly rare!
their names are in the description of the video
@Provinceman It's "the lords prayer" translated into swahili i believe.
"Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil."
I like this version, if only for the fact that the solo part is much better than in the original.
Civilization III is one of my favorite games ever, I kinda prefer the 2d version of the civ franchise but., I hope you get the grammy! It's a wonderful song. Congratulations
@Provinceman It's the lords prayer
baba yetu mwans 'our father' in swahili :)
@PatriotIzzy it might be because different people have different opinions about songs -.-
baba yetu means 'our father' in swahili :)
@tishihara1994 I thought they were about to suddenly say "I love you man" and jump into eachothers embraces xD
@TommyTallarico
Did the duet version (this version) win the Grammy, or did the original version win it?
文明4開頭曲
Bromance at 4:50
the whole song is in swahili.
The singer on the left is really funny :P
I wish they didn't stare at each other like that lol
I wonder what they are singing translated to english.
The Lord's prayer
3:35
4:11
Swahili is just created for singing
@antdude The women never really pop out like they do on the studio recording. Whether that's them or it's the conductor, it still really takes away from the piece.
@antdude The soloists really do break in at the most dramatic part of the song and kind of bring it down, don't they. It sounds like they're trying to cover up a weak chorus.
How did this win? Not a big fan of this song.
It won an Grammy!
That is as the first EVER video/computer game ever! Happy?
Does anybody know the conductor's name?
