- Composed by Christopher Tin, Baba Yetu is a piece written in Swahili and was used as the theme song to the video game Civilization IV. This song has been a staple in the Videogames Live Tour and was one of the many pieces featured in the LIVE PBS Special filmed in New Orleans, LA. The show will be released in November on CD, DVD and Blu- Ray but is currently available through PBS. Featured soloist in this video is Kendrew A. Herivueax (www.kendrewamir.com) and Ron Ragin with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jack Wall.
Still the most awesome version of Baba Yetu ever sung. Ragin and Kendrew, I love this version best. Legends forever. I played Civ 4 (as sirmole) pirated (oops!) before it came out in 2003 until its ultimate dissolution from Gamespy. We need to revitalize this game. This song is what gave it heart. Thank you, Kendrew and Ron!
The first game of my life where I spent more time in the Main Menu than playing the Civilization. This video explains why. :)
Kendrew is my cousin. Hey cuz’! Such an amazing talent and beautiful person. I still come back here.
The applause break at 2:56 is both genuine and awesome.
You are amazing in this performance. I still come back to it ❤
There a fxcking thousand versions of this on the Internet. This and ONLY this, now and forever, is and shall ALWAYS be the definitive version of this song. - - Christopher Tin, Kendrew Heriveaux, Ron Ragin. -- original singers, Civ 4 truists must concede, so awesome to see you perform.. a whole decade of my life culminated in this song.
+sirmolio I like the original version in Civ 4 better.
+SamVision Np but the original is polished in studio, comparable to the 1000+ versions out there, this one leaves them in the dust
i love this song n love ron ragin voice too...
This is literally the most beautiful thing I have ever heard in my life.
Your voice is really amazing! 👏🏻
This song... the feeling I first got in the game in the main menu. You see the sun rise above the earth showing the dawn of manking and then it goes down to show a dark earth that gradually lights up with civilization and this song plays in the background practicly explainning by itself the journey that is mankind, the hardships we faced, our modern and advance present and our uncertain futur which promises to be bright.
3:35 - 4:07 Never in my LIFE have I been so inspired, especially with such foreign words (yes, I know it is the Lord's Prayer, but nobody knows what they are singing at any given time :) Such a magical enrapturement you thrust us into..
FANTASTIC
Both guys are wonderful with the amazing choir. Congrats goes to the composer. It was thoughtful idea.
one of the few pieces of music which brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it
JUST as good as the "Calling All Dawns" original version. I like the subtle and yet powerful changes. Simply Beautiful. Thanks be to God for gifting us with these amazingly talented people.
The 2 lead voices complement each other so nicely.
Not at ALL how I pictured Christopher Tin at all! :) A fantastic composer indeed.
ikr.
+Garrett Steinbrink B/c you're shallow.
+sirmolio Oh, sorry. Thanks for correcting MY personality when you don't know me. But no. You're right.
Man. I got chills. I got chills!
can't hear the basses in most versions, this one shows us what we're missing out on!
I've actually put Civ4 behind me but after hearing this. I will probably, against my better knowing, be playing all weekend!
Kendrew is a fantastic singer, ron is pretty good too
Ingenious. Amazing. Simply Amazing. I could not take my eyes off it.
Amazing performance from both of you and the orchestra, and the song is amazing. Was shocked when i learned what baba yetu meant since im an atheist, but i still love this song :D
Oh I saw this performance a few weeks ago in Toronto. So amazing.
This song still moves and inspires me.
Blessed be the Most High God, our Father, and let us all unite in love and compassion for each other.
muzyczny majstersztyk !!!
Kendrew is an amazing singer!
And this is why it won a grammy.
omg ... goosebumps
wow this is beutiful
Kendrew is amazing !
From France.
This is incredibly amazingly beautiful!
amazing!! This song touches my heart is too perfect!
PBS wins a cultural victory!
Awesome job, Kendrew, you are the master and inspiration of all those who endeavor to mimic you. Thanks for the timelessly talented performance.. Was blown away the first day I opened Civ 4 and heard your voice in 2005, still comparably affected.. subscribed.
also nice harmony at 2:49
I don't think it much matters if it has religious overtones/meaning or not...I think what matters is Christopher Tin is an amazing and talented composer who created a beautiful masterpiece that can be enjoyed by anyone.
I have listened to 1000 versions of this song. Kendrew is by far the best (no, not related.. in fact I'm white, bitches) .. no wonder he was selected to feat w Ragin. Amazingly talented phenomenon.. both of you, no scrib
+sirmolio Thank you so much! I really appreciate everyones positive feedback!
No prob and thank you for this pinnacle vocal, my man.. I grew up playing this game (Civ IV) so this song holds such nostalgia and I've heard every version out there on RUclips (and there are many). Yet I'm hooked on your beautiful voice and listen to you at least once a week for therapy. It helps in this stressful world! Thanks again, man. Will look toward supporting you and your career in the future.
Exactly my opinion
@AlfonzNobody Haha, i use to do the same thing in WoW, when i found a zone with a brilliant piece of music, I would just stop whatever I was doing and listen to it on repeat :)
Can't wait for our choir to sing this song! (We won't sound as amazing though)
wouldn't be surprised if Tommy start shedding on his sweet spider-man guitar during the middle of this....................................
I forgot to say that Christopher Tin conducted the whole show :)
Totally agree, i dislike the religious overtones, but there is simply no deny what an awesome arrangement this is. I choose to just ignore the meaning, and enjoy the journey!
Aint religious copium inhaled*😂
@Trengar You ofcourse refer to Vanilla WoW. The intro song was captivating, the expansions were just like Oblivion and Skyrim: cool, but just not it. :)
RON MF-NNNN' RAGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@minsov lol, you are on his channel.
The choir is REALLY off in this one. Shocking, because the choir is awesome the entire rest of that concert.
+sirmolio Around 3:05 the male section gets a bit flat. The women in the choir don't sound bad at all here, but on this song (at least after the opening) the men kind of bring it down. By the way, I myself am a musician; on my other account by the same name I have several piano arrangements of game and movie music, and I also have perfect pitch (the ability to instantly identify a note by hearing it). Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Besides, as I said, the choir in the rest of the concert was brilliant.
+sirmolio well, I guess it's just a bit more noticeable to me than it would be to someone without perfect pitch. That's one of the drawbacks to it-- when something is just slightly out of pitch, it sounds REALLY out of pitch to me. :(
I'm looking for more songs by Ron Ragin, but cant find anything. Can anyone link me to some other songs of his?
Who is the conductor? He looks so badass
+Max Han Oh sorry, didn't realize he's been introduced in the description.
cool!! What language is it?
Swahiili
Miguel Angel Valdivia thanks!
+HAN Swahili, Pater Noster, you already know it.. come on man .. baba yetu
+HAN Swahili per Peter Noster, you KNOW IT! spread to your friends........ damn
With a voice like that if you keep going with singing you could even rival the great Luciano Paverotti
баба накупенда :D
oh! crap my bad, :S

didnt know adebayor could sing
NO DISLIKES BITCHEEEES :D
