    Thanks for the helpful comparison. I recently used a traditional beauty dish for an on location shoot. Carrying it under my arm, along with 2 stands and a 20lb sandbag in my other hand was not fun. I like the compact nature of these folding modifiers and ability to retain the beauty dish light quality. Definitely going to be worth the investment for me.

      I still like the traditional beauty dish, and in a studio location, it is ideal. The only down side is if the mount for your strobe is not great, or you are working with weaker stands or booms, the weight could be an issue. But the minute you leave the space of the studio, it becomes a real pain to transport. What brand are you looking to purchase Greg?

      @@PhotoKitchen425 Either a speedring mount portable beauty dish or the Godox/3rd Party Ad-S7 which mounts directly to the AD200 barebulb. The AD-S7 collapses down more than the large speedring hexapop type softbox/beauty dishes.

    I found the Chimera super cheap used years ago. The quality is light years ahead of the cheaper brands. I'd be shocked if it didn't last another 20 years.

      The quality of Chimera's products is amazing, and I agree with you about it lasting another 20 years. There are brands you know that if here taken care of at a minimal level, are fantastic buys in the used market. Chimera is at the top of the list.

    Can you review Bowens mount beauty dishes?

    • @PhotoKitchen425
      @PhotoKitchen425  2 года назад

      Great question. Outside of the Profoto OCF beauty dish, all of these dishes are generic and can fit/adapt to Bowens mount. I think if you are not traveling, a metal beauty dish is great, and for value the Impact is hard to beat. Chimera is pricey, but probably going to last the longest in a travel situation.

      @@PhotoKitchen425 I’m not quite sure if that’s going to work. I’m using a PCB Einstein and I’m already using an adapter for that light to go onto a Bowens mount.

    • @PhotoKitchen425
      @PhotoKitchen425  2 года назад

      Three of these dishes are generic, so you would go with any of the three and get them in a Bowens mount, or even go back to a PCB mount @@quanishamoody7770 .

      @@quanishamoody7770 Many of the generic beauty dishes and soft box speed rings take 'inserts' (6" standard). You are likely using one right now, which you call your adapter. But look up inserts and understand that whatever generic mount or speed ring you use there should be a Bowens option.

    The traditional beauty dish is used for group shots and full body shots a ton now. Lots of photographers don't only use them for Beauty headshots but for a host of other things like swimwear photography and other forms of portraiture. Also, I will never use rod assembly modifiers in life again. On location, rods are not time friendly and are just extremely annoying.

    Nice dog. Why not a silver one?

    • @PhotoKitchen425
      @PhotoKitchen425  3 месяца назад +1

      I just didn't have one on hand. But the silver one would give you a bit more power to be sure, and increase contrast. In working with other photographers, I have seen them all lean to the white rather than silver because it doesn't create as much highlights/hot spots on the face.
      Thank you for watching!

      @@PhotoKitchen425 I think for beauty shors better to have silver, cause model use a lots of cosmetic products to make skin precise, it give you more flexibility, if you need soft, you just adding the sox on beauty dish and get like small octobox with wider angles of spiting light.
