Boom Arm Basics, everything you need to know.
In today’s episode of PhotoKitchen, we jump to the studio and talk about how to properly boom lights on photo or video sets.
From the simple boom possibilities of a c-stand, with a grip head and grip arm, to the more advanced, and heavier, combo stands with junior booms, this video covers it all.
It does need to be stress that this is not a safety/setup video, but rather an overview of what is possible, what should be done, and more importantly, avoided, when using booms on set or on location.
Please make sure to consult your products manual, manufactures notes on weight limitations, and proper steps with particular gear.
The PhotoKitchen is not responsible for improper use of booms, stands,...

    Very helpful video. As a note for next time, when you zoom into tools like at 2:56, keep the background the same brightness and unblurred. You want to point the focus on the sliders, but they are big enough, I see them, but it'd be very beneficial if we could see the actual changes the sliders are making.

    The integration of Generative AI into Lightroom's Remove Tool is nothing short of revolutionary. It's like having a digital artist embedded in your software, capable of flawlessly removing unwanted objects and seamlessly filling in the background with stunning accuracy. This technology not only saves time but also elevates the creative process, allowing photographers to focus on their artistic vision without being bogged down by tedious editing tasks. Great video, just wanted to chime in on the last bit at the end, although ignore me if you've figured it out since!😆 You *can* edit multiple images directly at once, but you have to use the "Speed Edit Keys", you can't just use the sliders. This caught me out for ages as you would think "Edit Selected" would do just that but it doesn't, which is silly I agree. But when you use the "Speed Edit Keys", by holding down the shortcut key (E for brightness for example) and *then* use the slider you want to adjust (or the arrow keys), you can adjust all the images you have selected at the same time. I don't know if it works on every adjustment, but it will with the ones that have keys assigned. The default keys for the "Speed Edit Keys" are in a sub-menu in the Keyboard Shortcuts menu. It still doesn't do everything that LR's Auto Sync does, like the metadata stuff, but you can at least multi-edit. C1 is kinda bad at telling you that this stuff even exists to be honest. p.s; in one of your other videos you talked about being able to set star ratings but not color ratings on multiple images at once, again if you use keyboard shortcuts for the colours it'll change all the photos you've got selected together. Clicking to change will only affect that one photo. I can see the logic as to why, but i wish it was a bit more obvious.

    • @PhotoKitchen425
      @PhotoKitchen425 19 дней назад

      Thank you for watching and the advice. I know about the "Speed Edit Keys", but I think it is a terrible work around. But you are 100% right that they work, as well as color label. I just want CP1 to be consistent in the interface. Say what you will about Adobe, and I have a list, they are super consistent in the design of LRC.

    A small note about the 35 being close to a 40 field of view but a little wider.... If you ever make prints in the old formats, 5x7, 8x10, the 35mm excels. The side cropping means the 35 performs like a 40 does in the 2x3 format of the sensor. Please don't take my 35mm away! You already took my Kodachrome!

    Did the same, but didn't go so far back in time. I picked up a used Pro-10 pack and a ProHead. Totally agree that the flat-face monolights are great for travel and work will with certain modifiers. But they're no match to a pack & head system across Profoto's full line of modifiers. Pack heads have an exposed flash tube that do a much better job filling larger modifiers. The flat-face units already have a built-in reflector that works well, but also limits its ability to fill a modifier larger than about 36-inches. Also a caveat on Profoto ProHeads... In 2023 Profoto changed the connector end on new ProHead production to meet EU requirements. The new connector still works with Pro-8 thru Pro-11 packs, but not with older packs. This also applies to old vs new ProHead extension cables.

    • @PhotoKitchen425
      @PhotoKitchen425 19 дней назад

    • @PhotoKitchen425
      @PhotoKitchen425 20 дней назад

      I am going to try to NOT sound like an arrogant photo snob when I say this, but I am not a crop sensor shooter, so I am not sure. The definition of crop sensor varies, but you might take the crop factor of your sensor and then find the 35 and 50mm equivalent. Sorry I can be of more help. Thank you for watching.

    • @kennygeorgeonline
      @kennygeorgeonline 19 дней назад

      There are some good technical notes about crop sensors on the web. I shot a 1.5x Nikon APC for a few years. A 24 becomes a 36... A 35 becomes a 52.5. For depth of field, they are not as shallow as on a full sized sensor. Meaning, a 1.4 lens on a crop sensor performs about like a 2.0. Therefore, if you want to separate the background, you have to get a really large aperture lens. But, because often a crop sensor camera is a lower priced camera, they don't make really big 1.0 aperture lenses to give you the 1.4 equivalent. I shot 4x5 back in the 70's. A 4.5 f number on that lens was super shallow. Google depth-of-field articles vs. sensor size and focal length. Aside from depth of field difference, all of the perspective discussion from the video work. Just do the math and use a 24 vs 35 for your photography. You'll have the same "perspective." Great video discussion.
