      @@vision821k4Haha. Brutal. For me Super Street fighter 2 Turbo X is my favourite!

    • @vision821k4
      @vision821k4 Год назад +1

      @@LFiers You can literally feel how smooth Turbo is compared to the other versions when you do your inputs, it's quite astonishing once you notice it. I appreciate all versions and find them interesting to compare, but without a doubt, I agree with you it is the best version hands down easily. The Hyper Anniversary Edition arcade is technically my favorite since you get a taste of all the older versions, but it's obviously quite unbalanced, at least when you play CPU they all use super characters.

    • @LFiers
      @LFiers Год назад

      @@vision821k4 Yeah, I loved them all but Super Turbo blew my mind. I'll never forget when I first seen it. And yeah, all the inputs definitely much smoother and more fluent to do. I love them all time but S2 Turbo was lighting In a bottle. What a time in gaming they was.

    I’m about 15 years older than you and started with pinball before Pong showed up in the poolroom/barber shop-no arcades yet! You younger guys have so much more knowledge on the wiring. My first home arcade was The Odyssey (collectors must know it). It was Pong! You had these overlays that stuck to your HUGE 25 inch tv via static. So you’d put up static hockey rink and play pong hoping the ball would find the net. When Donkey Kong and Pac-Man showed up in the local pizza joint we were in heaven. Then when the arcade was born with high power graphics killers like frogger we still had no clue what was coming! So when I watch Ralph turn these older cabs into game room gems I’m totally jealous. How much did you pay for that beast? I know when you’re done it’s going to look great. Everyone needs to score their favorite arcade machine from the 80’s,90’s,00’s any newer probably gotta go emulator. Look forward to seeing that Street Fighter looking like new!

    Pure happiness. SF2CE is definitely my favorite of the classic Street Fighter games. I bought the PCB as well and am playing it on a supergun, but nothing beats the original cab with CRT and original controls. Heck, even the artwork is classic. I still remember playing this at my local doughnut shop...
    Thanks for the in-depth look.

    Congrats, a true legend when it comes to the 90s arcade scene. There's a lot you can do with that cabinet; from the Darksoft CPS loadable games to adding a CPS1 to CPS2 kick harness for the CPS2 A + B boards. Ohhhhh, if you do, get the updated fans, those old ones are LOUD. LOL. Yes, first thing address the monitor, make sure the power supply is clean, be happy with the bat sticks or change them for new ones and I would say art is the last thing. But it is your baby.

    Emulator driven multicades are nice relatively easily built arcade machines, but nothing's sexier than the real thing. It's the difference between a high quality print of the Mona Lisa and the actual Davinci-painted canvas.

    My friend Josh and I would go to the Burger King at Thunderbird and 19th Ave. in Phoenix and play this game every day at lunch. There was a hole in the fence at Thunderbird HS that would lead right to it. A whole group of students would go and down 2 Whoppers for 99 cents and play SFII. (And, Mortal Kombat/NBA JAM). I feel this way about Hydro Thunder,. I cannot wait until I can get my hands on a real cab for that.

    A full restore would be gratifying. because of it's age, a cap kit for the monitor would be necessary. I'm no expert but I've seen enough of "John's arcade" to know that's something I'd do. As far as the cabinet, sand, paint, bondo body fill the lock down bar holes after you remove them for home use, and artwork is time and a little money but all worth it in the end, not too mention clean up of the control panel. You'll have a nice arcade piece after a restore!

    It looks great man! This is the kind of project cab I like, they usually hit a sweet spot on price but aren't a total mess. I've been wanting a Z-back for a while to put my Champion Edition board into myself. For now I've just been popping it into my Astro City. Just an FYI, you can also swap two ROM chips on the Champion Edition board and convert it to Turbo if you want a change of pace. I prefer CE as that's what I will always remember as the real peak for SF2 at the arcades, but Turbo is a guilty pleasure from time to time.

    The color pots are known to go bad, or the color transistors. Hopefully it is as simple as a cold solder joint, but usually when a color is missing, a transistor or pot is bad.
    I highly recommend doing a cap kit to the monitor as well. It'll future proof the monitor from going dim in the future, and that could also resolve your color issue.

They kind of always go to fast assuming you kind of know what you are doing.

If I had the money, and a strong enough foundation, and enough power to feed them, and enough money extra money to repair, and maintain them, I'd love to have actual commercial arcade machines. But, I don't so, I have to live with the reality of settling for Arcade1up, and Toyshock machines, filling up my home, like a slowly growing colony of mold. LOL Thanks for the video. :)

    The cab only ever had one speaker. You can do a mod to get dual mono off the board but this never had true stereo. Lemme know if you need more help with the mod. I did a full Z-Back restore on KLOV.

    • @RetroRalph
      @RetroRalph  4 года назад

      There's a connector on the PCB to make it kinda "stereo"... I'm not sure if it's true stereo but the option is there. Do you know anything about that?

    • @justsayin4632
      @justsayin4632 4 года назад

      Retro Ralph yea its the CN5 connector. I’ve experimented with it eight ways from Sunday. Trust me it’s dual mono. You just have to make sure you desolder the volume pot on the board before using that connector👍🏼

    • @justsayin4632
      @justsayin4632 4 года назад

      Retro Ralph I should also mention the CN5 connector only puts out line level audio. Meaning you’ll have to use some sort of an external amp like one of the small Lepai’s. Makes it sound great tho! And if you mount it behind the coin door you won’t have to lower the control panel every time you want to change the volume.

    • @RetroRalph

    Great find, are you going to shoot more for the real thing now? Or are you still going to buy Arcade1Ups? Seeing you open the control panel reminded me of when I found an NBA Jam in a hotel. I pulled up on the joysticks..just being a bored kid and the whole thing lifted up. I was so excited to see inside but right as it came up a crazy loud alarm went off and scared the shit out of me. I ran like hell haha.

      🤣🤣🤣 It will be a mix of both but I plan to do some full size for the channel as well. I have a cool Street Fighter original that I’m going to do some cool things with. 👍🏻. Thanks for watching bud!

    Why am I the only person who never played fighting games in the arcade.
    I was way too into Tempest, Defender, Stargate etc…
    I miss those days.

  • @djcasl

    That is so awesome, that is how arcade gameplay should be. Hope you can get it to resemble it's former glory. First 2 days look like you have to get all the dust out. Are you going to remove the lock hinges and fill up the holes in de the front as well?

    • @RetroRalph
      @RetroRalph  4 года назад

      Yeah it's a bit dusty, it also has that nice old wood scent inside... haha. I'm going to do a full overhaul of the outside to get it as close to original as possible. I plan to document the process on the channel the best I can. I might need some outside help on a few things such as a good method to bondo those holes after I remove the lock hinges. ;-) Thanks for watching man, I really appreciate it!

    I have a guy that I have purchased some arcades from and he has one like your for sale. Excellent condition. What is a reasonable price I should pay for it? Thank you for your time. Great video!!!

    • @RetroRalph
      @RetroRalph  Год назад +1

      Depending on condition I would say anywhere from $700-$1200 is reasonable. Although location does play a factor on pricing. But I think right now it’s a buyers market so you should be able to get a decent deal. Thanks so much for watching!

    • @RetroRalph
      @RetroRalph  4 года назад +1

      I picked it up last year, I meant to do a video on it around Christmas time and never got around to it. It was an arcade owners personal game so it's never been on an arcade floor, it's in almost perfect shape! It was a total score and it was one of those (right place / right time) situations. I will do a video on it soon :-) Thanks for watching!

    Taking old cabs and either restoring them
    or gutting them and putting in your own hardware is the way to go. you can get a much more quality cab cheaper on the used market and put good parts in it. it also makes sense to know how to work on the stuff if you’re going to own it, and no better way than diy
