This movie conveys one message that everyone should follow...
"Be excellent to each other."
Because "I know Kung Fu" ...
...and PARTY ON, DUDE!
ITS JUST BEEN REVOKED
STATION!!!!
Every rose has its thorn.
For the past 33 years I have been saying "strange things are afoot at the circle K" every time I see a Circle K.
Me: "EXCELLENT!!!"
Emily: "I give it a 6 out of 10."
Me: "BOGUS!!"
I gave this 69 out of 10 when it first came out while I was in Jr High. All of these years later and I still quote this film in everyday conversation.
Ok. Young Guns 1 & 2 need to be on the list since she missed the "I'll make you famous" line. 🤣
Absolutely
EXCELLENT suggestion 😎
That was funny how she looked, everybody else here are in sync😂
Bogus Journey is one of the best movie sequels to any comedy, because it doesn't just repeat the same gags from the first movie, like a lot of sequels do.
I do wish it kept the same tone and comedy style. I hard core hated it, but your point is valid.
I LOVE Bogus Journey because it really did come out of left field and I think the comedy really is amped up more.
Personally I think Bogus Journey is a superior film. I still love Excellent Adventure but the sequel far surpasses it. Mostly due to William Sadler if I’m being honest.
@@Sentient_ZeeI'm glad there's two because I realize I'm in the minority and it's cool they were able to expand their audience.
It's just my personal taste. I have the polar opposite feeling about his character. I didn't just dislike him, I hardcore hated his performance and the concept.
My main issue with the overall movie is the world changes. All the characters are real people in EA and the comedy comes from serious historical figures interacting within modern life and the chemistry between Bill & Ted.
BJ has way less Bill & Ted (I'm not counting their evil robot clones), all the secondary characters were conceptualized and the comedy went from clever/ stupid to slapstick/stupid. SO much of the movie was built around the death character, to where you had to enjoy him to enjoy the film.
"You Melvin'd Death?" 🤣👍
Both at once "Candy gram for Mongo" Marriage goals.
A phone booth used in Bogus Journey was given away in a contest presented by Nintendo Power magazine, to promote Bill & Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure. It was won by Kenneth Grayson of Mississippi.
The more you know! 😃
Yay Dude and woah!.

I sent an entry to that contest. Didn't win. 😔
The thing about "dumb movies" is that it's a genre. Within that genre there is a range of quality - some dumb-movies are better than others. Which then means there is such a thing as an "intelligently-made dumb-movie"
In that sense, this movie is genius. Consider how many dumb movies Hollywood makes, EVERY DAMN YEAR and then consider how many of them are still relevant 30 years later.
And how many dumb movies are secretly smarter than people realise, especially when you look back at them. I mean, Demolition Man basically predicted Woke Culture, Robocop is about the nature of identity and what makes one a human being, Total Recall questions your reality and if our memories are what make us who we are ect.
I generally put movies in one of two categories:
1) Friday night movies (at the end of a week of work, there isn't much brain power left, so movies where you don't have to think too much)
2) Saturday night movies (the brain has started to recharge, so movies where you need to think instead of just watching the pretty explosions)
Like Bud Spencer and Terence Hill movies , you can see those are from 1970s , those just are silly entertainment , every movie follows the same formula , but why change something that gave revenue from dozens of movies .
Well said
@@weldonwin Idiocracy!
Love the scene where Rufus makes an appearance and Bill asks,
"Hey man, could tell us when the Mongolians invaded China?"
Rufus says, "Gee, I don't know. Why don't we go ask them ourselves, boys?"
And the adventure begins!
Joan of Arc taking over the aerobics class is always hilarious. She was going off 🤣
Played by Jane Weidlin of the Go-Gos.
1:55 To be fair, Sean Penn played a character very similar to Bill & Ted a few years earlier in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".
Yes I assume she was mixing him up with Spicoli
Yep, she was definitely thinking of Spicoli.
I saw this in the theater when I was 10. Loved it then, love it even more now. The Sigmund Freud jokes alone have me in tears even today. I also started watching George Carlin do stand up as a result. I just recognized Rufus telling jokes on HBO and it changed my entire life. So much of my sense of humor has been shaped by this one movie.
Another not-so-subtle subtle part that I always liked:
"Where is Napoleon?"
"Waterloo!"
The Bill & Ted franchise is most non heinous! Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!!
No wayy
Keanu was almost right. Ted was the role he was most remembered for, despite being in several other high-profile films. Until he showed up in some weird little movie in '99.
"I AM AN EFF BEE EYE AGENT!!!!"
There's a bomb on the bus.
He was in some other well known movies before The Matrix;
Speed (1994)
Johnny Mnemonic (1995)
Chain Reaction (1996)
And the devils advocate with Pacino
@@DP-hy4vh he's great in Parenthood as well.. also Point Break.
As a Phoenix native who was 17 when this came out, this was my favorite movie. The high school scenes were shot at Phoenix College, and the mall scenes were shot at the mall I hung out in
The outdoor scenes where Missy comes to pick them up were filmed at Coronado High in Scottsdale, my old high school.
Emily: “to hell, if you don’t act right”
*Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey has entered the chat*
I love that usually Matthew is *so* good at keeping a straight face when she goes WAY off-track on what Emily (thinks she) knows on a movie beforehand, but she got to "Sean Penn" and it's just ".... WH-AT?" It really says something when a person can turn "what" into two whole syllables!
Emily was clearly thinking of Spicolli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Stop teasing her.
Fun fact: the gal who played Joan of Arc was a founding member of the Go-Go's
And fortunately, she didn’t get shot after one line like she did in Clue… :)
I still cannot drive past a Circle K without thinking, "strange things are afoot."
"You rhymed time with time! I'm so angry!" LOL!!!
Please tell my you're going to react to the entire trilogy! Let's go!!!
Yes.
Yes! Now do Bogus Journey and Face the Music!
William Sadler is not to be missed.
So-crates Johnson is my favorite character. Watching him and Herman the Kid trying to pick up chicks at the mall was awesome.
"Strange things are afoot at the Circle K". Lol man, that term was immediately applied to any wierd situation I happened to come across after seeing this movie.
The Mall Rampage is a delight, even if Billy's casual gunplay is less enjoyable in today's world. Joan commandeering the aerobicize class, Beethoven berserking on the keyboards, Genghis running wild in the sports shop--even if it isn't all belly laughs it still brings joy. PIPPIN IS ADORABLE
One of the sadder things you can say about this movie is that this is one of the last roles, including the only sequel that exists, where Keanu shows so much animation in his performance.
Then multiple tragedies struck his life, and his acting became more stiff, as if he was afraid to emote too much anymore.
I will say, it is strange, seeing the young Keanu vs the Post John Wick Keanu and especially the Post Johnny Silverhand Keanu
I think it’s more he just thought being grown up was being wooden
Yeah, he was a corpse in the new Bill & Ted.
@RiptideRambo It was probably Botox more than tragedy. His face is frozen.
You guys sound like the jealous ugly chicks who make snide comments about the pretty, popular girl.
To this day, I still occasionally say whenever unusual things are happening, "Strange things are afoot at the Circle K."
They have the most Excellent Adventure, "put them in the iron Maiden" 😂
Emily made 2 different references to the movie that I think explain why she didn't like it much. She said it wasn't her favorite silly movie (don't remember if that was the word she used) and mentioned Airplane. Later she said she had an "Awww" reaction to the future scene. I think she was expecting a different movie. I don't see this as being in the same category as Airplane at all and the "Awww" is closer to what it was trying. I'd more likely put it in the same category as something like Goonies. There are goofy parts, but the core is "that's us, dude".
Yeah I mean it’s literally as clever and complicated as bill and ted
It’s like they thought they were doing an American monty python but they definitely didn’t
Totally agree. This is not aw, cute or silly. It's hilarious, brilliant and stupid all at the same time.
I think you might like the sequel more. William Sadler as Death alone makes it worth watching.
"See you real soon!"
I can't stand the sequel. I'm confused that it's so beloved by other fans.
@@MrParkerman6 Sounds like you're taking this way to personally. Apparently you attack people with different opinions, of course hiding behind your keyboard.
@@jkhoover don't agree with your opinion on the sequel. But have an upvote for calling out rude comments.
@@richardb6260 I rewatch it every five years or so, hoping my opinion will change, but it never does. It just doesn't have the magic of the first one, IMO, and thank you for disagreeing in a reasonable manner.
Favourite quote: "Even the dirt - It's clean!".
Solid 10/10 for me! I first watched this movie at the perfect age (I was about 10 or so) and I've loved it ever since. It never fails to put a smile on my face, and that's the most important thing!
Emily's rating of course makes go "Are you crazy?!" but I can totally understand it. I'm just glad that someone's finally reacted to it!
Oh, and fun fact - this movie sat on the shelf for more than a year before getting released, after the company that made it went bankrupt. All the references to what year it was set in had to be redubbed.
SAM DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULES
Nobody can listen to the song, "Do You Wanna Play" by Extreme, and not think of this film.
Saw the title and my teenage years flashed before my eyes... and it was EXCELLENT :D
"How's it going, royal ugly dudes? I am the Earl of Preston."
"And I am the Duke of Ted."
"Put them in the Iron Maiden."
"Iron Maiden? EXCELLENT!"
When Rufus played the guitar, that was really Eddie VanHalen....
One of my favorite things about the third movie is that they leaned into 'so you were told 30 years ago your work would save the world, and the world is decidedly Not Saved - what now?'
Little strange that either Bill or Ted failed to warn Lincoln about his next theatre experience
09:32
Your cat suddenly saw in to our world and saw this massive screen sitting above it 🐱
😂😂😂😆
Matthew's smirk at 9:20 when he anticipates Emily seeing the second film.
I was married in 91. Our best man's speech was simply "Be excellent to each other".
Alex Winter played Bill to Keanu Reeves Ted. He also played a member of The Vampire Gang in The Lost Boys
I would rate this movie as excellent. Saw this as a teen in the 80's and I had a big crush on Bill's step mom
My son and his friends wore out a VHS tape playing this over and over and over. They knew every line. Every weekend 8 to 12 boys ranging in age from 16 to 18 years old crowed in my son's room playing Dungeons and Dragons. On another thought, it was kind of like real-life Stanger Things.
Sean Penn did seem ridiculous until you remember that he played Spicoli.
We are..Wild Stallions.. I never realized how as a kid how many innuendos they slipped into this movie..like that corndog lol.
Not trying to be pedantic, but it’s…

I've always loved this movie. It's just fun. I'd rate it an 8. Really hope you watch the sequel 'Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey'. I love them both but 'Bogus Journey' is my favorite. One of the rare time the sequel is better then the original.
I haven't seen the 3rd one so my sequel comment is just for the second one, 'Bogus Journey'
I was surprised that it's genuinely good. I gave it a 7.
I gave bogus journey a 6. It's not as good, but it's worth seeing if you liked the first, and definitely gets wackier.
I gave face the music a 4. That means I recommend never watching it. It's not good.
Face the Music fits in to the series, it enjoyable, just isn't as good
@@Ashwgun Strongly disagree on all counts.
@@seigeengine you are welcome to, I stand by what I said
I love this movie, and I can watch it on a loop. Bogus Journey I can't stand.
"Put them in the Iron Maiden!" "Iron Maiden?!" Bill & Ted do their guitar thing. 😄
I was 9 when I saw this in theaters. To me this is the most ideal future ever shown in film. A future based on excellent music, higher education, being excellent to each other and to party!
I lived in the most excellent city of San Dimas when this movie came out.😁
After 13 years of living there, I think it IS a most excellent city!
What's funny is that I can actually kind of imagine a young Sean Penn playing Bill.
Can't wait now for the reaction to Bogus Journey with it's GOAT soundtrack, Alex winter granny, William Sadler and an appearance by my favourite band of all time during the Battle of the Bands playing my favourite song by them...Primus - Tommy the cat.
I also highly recommend Freaked! Written and starring Winter with Reeves (and Sadler/Grim reaper) in small roles.
Went in expecting very little and really enjoyed it.
Might just be a Primus and Alex Winter mark though...so I may be bias.
That was a Young Guns reference there with Billy the Kid wasn't it?
Ya'll should watch THAT on the channel. Absolute classic
Fun bit of trivia, the Ziggy Piggy waiters who serve the ice cream to Napoleon and the kids are the scriptwriters of the movie, they insisted on doing cameos as part of the movie deal.
The movie was completed two years before it's release in the US, but was not released because the original studio who made it went bankrupt and was released after the assets were purchased by Orion Pictures.
Now you've got to see Bogus Journey, since it's one of these rare instances when the sequel is better than the original
Not better I would say, but that is just my personal opinion. I will say though, that it IS as good as the original and serves successfully to continue the story and expand the universe it is set in
I thought it ruined everything good about Bill & Ted, but to each their own.
@@MrKeychange
I'll respectfully disagree on that 🧐
It was a cute, silly movie and I'm glad Emily had a giggle.
My city's very first Circle K will be built soon. My best friend and I are still trying to track down our Bill & Ted ensembles.
My favorite line of that movie is “You want a Twinkie Genghis Khan?”. I don’t know why but I crack up every time I hear it.
This movie and back to the future are my favorite two movies from this era. I’ll give this one a 9.
The best part, I think, is that with the exception of one of them, all of the people they travel back in time to grab died in manners that COULD have been prevented [the exception is Genghis and that is because it is unknown how he died]
Keanu debuted in Youngbloods, a hockey movie, 3 years earlier in 1986.
RIP George Carlin and Clarence Clemmons, Bruce Springsteen's sax player and future excellent person.
I saw it on cable in 1987.
It is possible that I and other friends have shouted out, "San Dimas High School football rules!" On more than one occasion.
To this day I still say So-crates in my head when I see the word Socrates 🤣. Party on dudes became a popular saying after this movie. 🤣. The only other movie I have seen Alex Winter in was “Lost Boys”. A movie y’all need to react too. 😜
You should see "Freaked" which he also directed.. Keanu has a cameo as Ortiz.
I agree with Emily that, ironically, their vocab is quite colorful.
Lincoln's voice is typically portrayed as a booming baritone, but by all contemporary accounts it was described as having a nasally high pitch.
I said "Candygram for mongo" in unison with you guys. That was so great.
For years when my dad was about to eat roast pork, bacon, or pork chops, me, my sister, and brother would poke him with our fingers and tell him, _"Eat the pig! Eat the pig! Ziggy, Ziggy, Ziggy, Zig!"_ 😂😂😂
These movies are probably the most expressive acting that Keanu has done. Ever.
My text ringtone is "Excellent! [guitar lick]" and every time I get a text I do the air guitar strum. Love this movie!
Another good one for messing with your speech patterns is “Strange Brew.” I love movies with fun talking. My fav part is the mall montage. You gotta do Buckaroo Banzai soon!
Always loved this movie. Shout out to kitty. Your cat really shined in this video.
The guy who plays the principal (Bernie Casey) is also in the movie "Spies like us"
Which is another great film :-)
Also in Revenge of the Nerds as UN Jefferson. Such an amazing presence as an actor.
I’m Gonna Git You Sucka!
@@trevertravis8963 "She could do this thing with her mouth... Your momma was a fine woman." Lol
"to hell if you don't act right" no that's the sequel.
the 2 guys that served the ice cream was the original Bill and Ted. they are the guys that came up with the characters when in college and developed the movie. they had this cameo in the film. Originally it was a 3 man thing a 3rd member of the band and friend named Bob but the guy that played him wanted nothing to do with the act anymore. originally Keanu auditioned for Bill and Alex auditioned for Ted... but the casting crew switched their characters when hired. I rate the movie 7 out of 10 as well. this was part of the golden age of 80's movies and is one that helped define the era.
Love this movie! Love the soundtrack even more. This movie came out while I was in college and I had a radio show at the time and wore out the tape. Then got a job at an amusement park on a ride that had lights and music and wore out another tape. Extreme, Shark Island, Big Pig, awesome no names at the time.
Sounds like Young Guns needs to be on your list.
I second that
As much as I love Young Guns, feel like people don't quite get the 80s-ness of it these days. It's not really a "serious" western.
He's obviously seen it since he quoted it. "I'll make ya famous."
@@barbarapacker5722 He’s seen most of these movies. She’s the movie virgin on these.
The history dudes are the real stars of the movie. Love it.
5:54 "Bill, range things are afoot at the Circle K." :D
Anyone else noticed the striking similarities to Back to The Future? Especially the opening scene.
Cuckoo clocks, guitars causing explosions, being late for school. This was written before BTTF. Interesting.
First off greetings from Winston Salem NC!Another fun reaction as always!!
I think Emily was on point when she said that if she had seen this movie when she was younger, it would've meant more to her. I thought that was a good assessment.
I saw this movie in the theater when I was a junior in high school and went back a couple of times, I freakin' love it!!!
Genghis Khan, Billy the Kid and Socrates are my favorites in the movie.
The soundtrack is good too, I've got it on CD.
Keep up the great work and many blessings to you and yours.
“Put them in the Iron Maiden”…”Excellent”
I remember reading somewhere that, after seeing the film, Eddie Van Halen did say if Bill and Ted had asked, he would've played with them.
Emily: Is it Sean Penn?
Matt: ...what
Me: No, it is not Spicoli.
Oh, if Emily hasn’t seen them, I’d suggest Twister and The Color Purple.
Both of them in unison: "Candy-gram for Mongo!"
Me: Relationship goals!
An Angry Video Game Nerd reference… that just made my day, what were they thinking!!
Lol “ how is he famous he’ll make you famous”. “ uh what”….”nothing”. It cracks me up that she doesn’t get any of these references LOL
Lmao "Candygram for Mongol". Shes learniiiiing!!
That was also Clarence Clemons, saxophonist of the E-Street Band, who played the middle wise dude in the future.
Now on to my favorite. Bill and Teds Bogus Journey 😂
Considering that it takes help from another person with a screwdriver to suit someone in full plate armor, Bill and Ted were most likely only loosely dressed in those suits.
Having the suit fall off on impact is actually realistic.
I love Matthew's Young Guns comment about Billy The Kid!
I hope "I'll make you famous" is on the list. I'd like to see that reaction.
Keanu did several films before this, but they've mostly been forgotten. They were mostly comedies! I still have trouble accepting him as a morose action star, because he was so much fun in those early movies and was so good at being innocent and goofy.
I remember watching the 90’s Dracula which Keanu stars and I spent the whole movie expecting him to go “Woah, vampires”
Love your reaction. One of my favorite movies.
Parts of this movie were filmed in my home town of Phoenix, AZ.
The mall scenes were filmed at The Metro Center, once the larges mall in the US. It was that place to be back then. Sadly hey are tearing the mall down. But before they do, they will be screening this movie on an outdoor screen. This will most likely happen on May 21st. The Circle K used in this movie had a screening of Bill and Ted in 2022, before they permanently closed it. Many of the Arizona locations are now closed
Notice the Rufus never tells Bill and Ted his name. They learn it from their future selves who learned it from their future selves and so on.😋
Oh, and your cat Pippen is so stinkin adorable.
This came out when I was 14-15 and I love it. You just can't take it seriously.
The main "future dude" was Clarence "The Big Man" Clemons (RIP) from the E Street Band.
Alex P. Winter does look a lot like Sean Penn's less well known brother Christopher did in _The Wild Life,_ so it's not entirely silly to think that Sean Penn is in it.
Bill & Ted is one of those films that put Keanu Reeves on the map, cool reaction as always, take care Emily & Matthew
The Sean Penn mistake was 100% understandable as he plays Jeff Spicoli in Fast times at ridgemont high as the quintessential Cal, 80s, stoner, surfer dude along with Bill & Ted and the Teenage mutant ninja turtles.
Woah, radical dude!
