Zep was undoubtedly "the greatest rock band of all time" if you just ignore The Rolling Stones, The Who, Cream, Queen, The Beatles, and Deep Purple. Which is like saying India is the "Dark Continent" if you ignore Africa. This was true "Stadium Rock" ushered in by the legendary Yardbirds. Glam Metal was later with bands trying and failing to be Led Zeppelin. Perms, hair dye, shiity high notes, etc. These dudes simply looked this way, no makeup, bleach, or perms, just fucking monsters of the scene without equal because of talent and unique interpretations of world music.

Skynard, etc. My sister; Heart, Older brother John Denver, Eagles, acoustic masters. I absolutely love all that acid rock, hardrock, blues, prog rock. Ever experimental bands. All before 1987. More power to those who dare listen and learn.
A Julliard trained singer ought to know this is Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song. It is not Shrek’s song. Us Baby Boomers grew up watching cartoons that featured music by the great composers, but did not refer to such masterpieces as “Merry Melodies, Bugs Bunny or Wally Gator songs.”
By the time glam metal came around most of those bands were copying Van Halen more so than Led Zeppelin, though Zeppelin were a big influence on Van Halen of course.
The creativity and guts to compose a song like this is awe inspiring. A few bars of driving rhythm and then a frightening Viking howl. None other than Led Zeppelin.
Hands down, my favorite Zeppelin song. Definitely not "glam." That hair was VERY common in the 60's and 70s, not just among rock bands, but on the street as well.
Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" fit in the movie "Thor: Ragnarok" even better than it did in "Shrek the Third". I was a Zeppelin fan long before either movie. All of their albums were on rotation while I was in college. Awesome study music.
I took a year off after high school. During that time, it was either Deep Purple's Machine Head, or pick a Zeppelin album, any Zeppelin album (though HotH was the most recent at that time).
Not only study music, gaming music as well. Zep was in the rotation with Sabbath, Yes, Rush, ELP and others. A complete blast in the late '70's and early '80's.

Normally I prefer the studio version of a song because that’s what I heard first but this is one of the times the concert version is definitely better.
D Oberski, I agree this is my favorite version of The Immigrant Song, while I also love the studio version. I think Page's guitar solo is better in this live version than the studio.
Sometimes if you hear the live version first you end up preferring that to the studio version. But in general I treat live and studio as two different things and set my expectations accordingly. Listening to live rock or metal while driving is a thing.
My parents were big fans of Zeppelin. I remember listening to them as a kid. My dad still has all their albums and used to play stairway to heaven on his guitar for me
When I was in middle school, Black Dog hit the airwaves. A girl in my school danced to it on stage. White gogo boots, white hot pants, white blouse, waist length flaming red hair flying in all directions. That was the night I learned how to squeze my lemon.
Definitely do more Zeppelin. I'd like to recommend that you just start with album 1, track 1 and keep on going picking up live versions along the way of any song that you liked and want to see live, if you can find a live version. They didn't perform all their songs live so if you don't do studio versions, you'll be missing out on some incredible music. And Jimmy Page (guitarist) was a production genius in the studio so there's also that. ;) Enjoyed your reaction a lot and looking forward to more.

Oh it is real Maggie, and they have many tracks you'll love. I'm glad you did this song, one of my many favorites from Zeppelin. Going to California. Good times/Bad times, are two off the top of my head. Nice reaction Maggie.
I saw LZ live in 1972 when Stairway To Heaven was brand new and Immigrant Song was maybe a year old. Besides the singing and guitar playing, the bass playing is intense. If you're interested, there are some young bands with amazing performances.
LZ was the perfect melding of worldly talent. Probably the best lead guitarist alive at the time, with the best drummer alive, with the best vocalist alive.
They went to Steve Marriott, of the Small Faces first, but he turned them down, to form Humble Pie. Robert Plant was Page's second choice. Check out Humble Pie's "Black Coffee".
Great reaction. Zeppelin help create the heavy metal genre. As you go deeper into the Led Zep rabbit hole you notice references to the works of J.R. Tolkien. There are so many great song by them you need to check out.
We were all young once, and I had hair down to my rear when I was 20 in 1977. I have heard all the Zeppelin tunes since at least 1968, and I saw them in 1978 at the LA Forum.
Every LZ song is a completely different experience to the next. For some exquisite vocals I recommend The Battle of Evermore, which features a gorgeous duet with folk singer Sandy Denny. Magical.
Trent Reznor’s cover of this for the title sequence of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is very unique, and one of very few instances where someone doesn’t embarrass themselves trying to cover Zep
Heart's cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors to the surviving members of Led Zeppelin was excellent as well. Mind you they did have Jason Bonham on drums to help.
I'm so glad you did another Led Zeppelin song. If you're going to do more, I would recommend an epic version of Kashmir (Live at Knebworth 1979) (Official Video). Led Zeppelin never plays the same song in the same way. This version has by far the best and clearest vocals which will give you a lot to react to. Another good choice would be Since I've Been Loving You live at MSG 1973.
This whole reaction really, but 1:32 specifically got you this new sub. What fun energy you have! That was great and I can’t wait to see how you’ll feel about the rest of their stuff. Remember, it’s all right at fifty years old and they were all in their early to mid 20’s, so it makes it that much more incredible that they sounded the way that they did.
What a great live version. The reaction though - it's like the power of this kind of music - it's like it doesn't exist anymore. Perplexing. It's like people won't let themselves go enough to feel that intensity anymore - they're too controlled. She is so utterly in control of herself.
Hello Magee Renee, Led Zeppelin's first album pretty much establishes who they are. The recording quality shows how it should be done. We use to drive around with it playing on the 8 track, so it all seems like one song to me. A song that I recommend they first did on their third album, but I prefer the one done by Paige and Plant on their acoustic album of 1994 " No Quarter ". The song is titled " Gallows Pole " or more often " Gallis Pole ". This is a favorite. RUclips video: Robert Plant & Jimmy Page 'Gallows Pole' - Jools Holland Show 1994 BBC
The story behind this song is interesting. This song was written to honor the people of Iceland. They had a concert to play in Iceland but at the time there was some kind of labor strike and getting the place ready for the concert was looking doubtful , the people of Iceland came together and actually seeing did the work as volunteers so the show could be played . I don’t know the exact details of the event . That is the basic story of the inspiration for this song .
The song has been used in so many movies, that I can't keep count. It was also used in the Thor movies since it's basically about Valhalla and the Vikings. Thanks for the reaction. And, you actually know three Led Zeppelin songs. You did Kashmir, which you didn't like. Shame on you for that.😁
Correct me if I'm wrong but first movie that used this song was School of Rock. There's even a video of where JB is asking permission with the audience
I've loved this song since I first heard it in my early teen years (the late 70's), it's always fun to see people's reactions to music they heard in shows or movies and thought they were written for them. Robert Plant has had a long musical career after Led Zeppelin ended in 1980 and I like his more recent work with Alison Krauss. RIP Bonzo.
Glam rock was 100% around in the early 70’s. Bowie, T-Rex, Gary Glitter, Queen…. And she doesn’t even mention the glam rock in the video. All she says is they are rocking glam metal hair. Which is a fair comparison. Glam metal was an entirely different genre from the 80’s.
If you get a chance, listen to the whole Led Zep III. They have eight studio albums, four live albums, nine compilation albums, 16 singles, 16 music videos and eight music downloads. So you have allot more listening to go!~ Thanks for the video! Peace!~

The greatest rock band of all time in my opinion...
In millions of people's opinion include me 😁✌️
As a Rabid Van Halen fan I have Zero problems with this statement 🤷
The greatest! The Gods !!!
100%
Your opinion is right
for those of us who grew up in the 70s it ain't glam rock, it ain't classic rock, it is just rock and roll.
"I literally thought this song was written for Sherk." Oh my ... Well, bless your heart. :)
This song is just a force of nature. Led Zeppelin was incredible - ahead of their time, revolutionary and eternally relevant.
Must listen - Kashmir, Black Dog, Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On, Misty Mountain Hop, Dazed and Confused, Gallows Pole, Four Sticks, Battle of Evermore, Going to California, When the Levee Breaks - - - I could keep going but that is a good start! (If anyone wonders why I'm missing any songs - I grew up with II, III and IV in my cassette collection so they got a lot of play in my formative years)

Yep, what he said--though I'd explicitly add The Rain Song to the list.
And John Bonham singing it on The Voice of Ireland Blinds😄

Do more of these guys. You will not regret it. It's widely considered the greatest rock band of all time. This isn't just some random dudes here. These are THE legends of rock music.
@@stefan8405 That's a really uneducated take, that shows you don't understand the history of copyright disputes in music. Everyone did what they did, until they became so popular, that people started suing to get a piece of it. If they are plagiarists, then so is literally everyone in the entire music industry, excepting The Beatles, for all of human history prior to them. It was standard practice, until people decided they wanted that Zeppelin royalty.

Glam Metal was later with bands trying and failing to be Led Zeppelin. Perms, hair dye, shiity high notes, etc. These dudes simply looked this way, no makeup, bleach, or perms, just fucking monsters of the scene without equal because of talent and unique interpretations of world music.

By the time glam metal came around most of those bands were copying Van Halen more so than Led Zeppelin, though Zeppelin were a big influence on Van Halen of course.

Hands down, my favorite Zeppelin song. Definitely not "glam." That hair was VERY common in the 60's and 70s, not just among rock bands, but on the street as well.
And for Robert, this actually qualifies as a bad hair day. He sometimes had overwhelming locks.
I had long hair like that in the 70's.

Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" fit in the movie "Thor: Ragnarok" even better than it did in "Shrek the Third". I was a Zeppelin fan long before either movie. All of their albums were on rotation while I was in college. Awesome study music.
For me it was School Of Rock
I took a year off after high school. During that time, it was either Deep Purple's Machine Head, or pick a Zeppelin album, any Zeppelin album (though HotH was the most recent at that time).
Best part of Ragnarok

Led Zeppelin, the greatest and most sampled rock band in history. The amount of movies that use their amazingness is astounding! They aren’t glam metal.. this is almost 2 decades too early. They are the creators of real rock/metal and everything in between.
Perfect man. Zeppelin is one of creators of heavy or hard rock.

Normally I prefer the studio version of a song because that’s what I heard first but this is one of the times the concert version is definitely better.
Yeah, and a lot of live versions have slight modifications, so it is always good to start with studio to hear the song's authentic sound.

Ramble On is a must listen from Zeppelin. So is Black Dog
I second on Black Dog just for the vocals 👍
When I was in middle school, Black Dog hit the airwaves. A girl in my school danced to it on stage. White gogo boots, white hot pants, white blouse, waist length flaming red hair flying in all directions. That was the night I learned how to squeze my lemon.
If you're sadly out of coffee this will definitely get your day started. Heck Robert's vocals alone will make you want to tackle just about anything.
And Jimmy Page (guitarist) was a production genius in the studio so there's also that. ;)

Hello Magee Renee, Led Zeppelin's first album pretty much establishes who they are. The recording quality shows how it should be done. We use to drive around with it playing on the 8 track, so it all seems like one song to me.
