What a misfortune. Today I decided to quit WT, because I was pretty bad in this game for a last month and burned out completely. I can't have fun at all. Less than a couple of hours after deleting WT, I saw this vid and now I want to play my La-7 again
The La-7's supercharger is weird that you have very little powr between 3k-4k but after 4k, despite not having WEP, you still have quite a decent amount of power. I remember there was an old Adam 514 video where the engine output chart was shown and there was another peak around 4.5k
No, it's the same as every other plane, but when you don't have wep you lack of acceleration, that's what people are notice. You gotta go fast at higher altitude in order to get manifold pressure back.
I guess what makes it weird is that flying at higher speed increases supercharger gear switch altitude. So you can climb in the 2nd gear, but once you level out and pick up speed, you'll go back to first gear. This is true for all aircraft in War Thunder, but it is noticeable on the La-5FN and La-7 because WEP is only available on the first gear.
It's call ram air effect, the faster you go the supercharger have to work less and this make them more efficient but tbh if you reach max speed at 6km in La-7, game either end or 109 g6 will kill you first. So conclusion.... La-7 is fast at altitude in theory... But not so fast in actual gameplay. Supercharger will always rob some engine power regardless of type it is, because it's driven directly by crankshaft so parasitic lost is unavoidable.
I always loved playing the La5FN when I started to move up the russian air tree and when I got the La7 it was just a straight up upgrade, no more horrible compression at 400mph and those guns still clapped hard at that point. Glad to see it getting some more love, iirc I havent quite gotten the 7B yet since I've been playing the hell out of my US tree getting the F4E and going through that stock grind (painful) but now I have some decent missiles and equipment I've gotten the hang of it. Would love to see an F4E video at some point since you did the F4C recently.
This thing is one of my favourite aircrafts. Its just very good at handles very well. It was also the aircraft that i first had my proprer 7 kill games and a 2v4 (i recorded the replay to my YT channel for nostalgia) :D
This actually comes perfectly timed; today i played the La-5FN but i'm honestly struggling in it, like i struggle to get kills in it and half my games were also me getting absolutely screwed by the BS air-spawn planes (XP-50, B7A2, exc); and it makes me really angry at myself 'cause i know i'm better than this but... :( any tips? I am playing energy with it. (I also had a bit of trouble aiming the ShVAKs, but that's skill issue on my end) Also, about Real Shatter: YES, it's bugged again, tho it has already been reported and it's being investigated, afaik from the forum)
I'd advice you to be more aggressive. At that br, matches are hectic and people are inexperienced so you can use the knowledge you have about energy and all that stuff to your advantage. If you try to climb and wait you'll probably won't get any consistent result with the plane, but if you throw yourself against them, you'll refine what you know and make adjustments to improve. Just don't be afraid to lose (or die, in that matter) and focus on testing your limits and, ofc, having fun! (it's a game, after all).
I tried to play the La-5FN a lot of times because it was used in the middle of WW2 and I wanted to be historically accurate and nerdy stuff like that. But the La-7 is just better in every way and you get the same enemies as the La-5FN because the La-7 often gets downtiered. So it's just unfair. I grinded the La-7 with the normal La-5 beacuse it was less painful that way. That BR range with the FN just sucks (u always get uptiered to 4 - 4.7 where the La-7 is anyway) So use the La-5 That's the only tip I can give you because I struggled like you are.
LA-5FN Is great, I love it. Just play ad mid altitude and be aggressive ASF. The mentality "first in, last out" should apply when going for furballs. (At least that's what has worked for me and I get 3 kills per game routinely)
Climb at a lower angle and higher speed once you start to close in to where the airspawn planes are going to run into you. I personally try to stay around 280~kmh IAS because I can still climb relatively well and still have enough time to pick up energy to maneuver in case of an interceptor or something.
One prop you could maybe do a video on is the 3.0 A-36 Apache, i think it's virtually the earliest Mustang in the game, and has the option for gunpods giving it a total of 10x.50 cals, and it has an airspawn, i think it should be pretty interesting for a video
I have to say I have been watching for awhile and learning. I just don't have the instinct and patience Defyn has but I have learned a bunch and getting alot more kills and having more fun. I have purchased most of jets but staying in props until I get better.
usual cycle ingame, circa 10 Years ago i made a report in Tech Forum about a Bf109E-3 WEP bug, was confirmed as a bug by Gajin short time later, then they fixed the Bug, one or two years later the Bug came back again and they fixed it 2nd time. About Gunperformance, Overheat ect , i think they have two settings only "not enough/useless" and "too much" and from time to time someone in Gajins "Staff" turn this settings on and off!
I feel like my la7 is gonna go black out doing some of those maneuver, is that just because i have low crew skill? I feel like i overload in la7 so much more often than any other planes
DEFYN any advice on a plane with good climb and acceleration like the Ki 44 2 Hei? I like that one, but have trouble with wobble in dives or at high speeds. Anything 5.0 BR or below that would out accelerate it? No XP-50... I'm not that guy.
Depends on altitude but since most dogfights either happen at low alt or end up there after a higher merge, it's safe to say that without extending La-7 beats D-30. La-7 still outrates it, if not a by a lot, and this (together with stall which is better on D-30 because La-7 stall lol) are the only two things D-30 competes with La-7 in. Everything else it's not really close, so unless you merge, like, really high or La-7 guy is just bad I'm afraid D-30 has to extend.
I noticed playing the other day doing the history pages in GRB. I had to hose people down with the 20mms to get a kill. I get they were strong before the patch but gaijin spaghetti code has made them inconsistent again

Yak-3, Yak-3U, Yak-3 Vk107, yak-9u, la-7 La-9 if you want to get blasted in a head-on. Yak-15 is a 6.3 jet so watch out. I-225 is a rare Russian plane that works well at altitude.
Finally got my F-8E back to a kd of 3 and finished my f16 grind, i can at last quit air rb forever (until the f15 comes) and go back to tanks, the main gamemode of war thunder F-8E video when?
The J21s always got outturned by the XP-50. They always got outturned by nearly everything once they dropped below 270-280mph. The J21s really are 3.0-3.3 planes at best performance wise. They couldn't ever fight anything 4.0+ 1v1 and win if both planes have skilled pilots that know what they are doing.

It never was a "good" turning plane unless it was at a very narrow speed range of 300-360mph and even then it was never better than average, even at the 3.0 BR that it was introduced at. It was literally worse in every performance metric to the F4U-1a that sat at 2.7. The only thing it had over the F4U-1a was that it's 13.2s were the hardest hitting guns in the game for over a year. Combined with the fact that they otherwise behaved like US.50s and getting kills with those guns was laughably easy if you could get guns on a target. This factor alone caused it's BR to go up, by popular vote from the player base, from 3.0 to 4.3 where it currently is and was never capable of being competitive at performance wise.

A passive La-7 player is hard to kill in PM-1 because La-7 is just much faster (so it's hard to do anything vs him just extending) but on the other hand PM-1 is insanely annoying to face in La-7 in the same way a Spitfire is because you can't do anything besides extend. One such plane being in the match and keeping his altitude forces you to play very passive and that basically nullifies your game impact. In the other hand, if PM-1 player fully commits to just climbing on La-7's six and forcing it to extend forever he also sacrifices his own game impact and it's a stalemate
Isn't La-5FN almost identical but a whole 1.0 BR lower? Hopped into one last month for the first time in years and got 4 kills and an assist on Mozdok.
Almost same power to weight (same engine, La-7 is some ~120 kg lighter which is a small but notable difference), La-5FN is way draggier (50 kph top speed difference with similar power is pretty huge) and has slightly worse flaps. But most importantly, 5FN is among the most compressing planes in the game. Basically doesn't pull past like 600. La-7 has one of the best prop FM's at high speed (with the caveat of having fairly low rip speed so you can't go very fast, but until that 735 kph the FM is very good)

Its not about the total ammo its about the trigger time and the la-7 has more of it

I'm not a very good player but i have no problems dealing with La7s in the PM-1 Pyőrremyrsky whatsoever. Am i only facing dumb players then?

But most importantly, 5FN is among the most compressing planes in the game. Basically doesn't pull past like 600. La-7 has one of the best prop FM's at high speed (with the caveat of having fairly low rip speed so you can't go very fast, but until that 735 kph the FM is very good)
