JetBlue creates luxury hotel for employees only

- JetBlue, one of the nation's biggest airlines, is taking hospitality to a new level -- but it's not in the sky. The carrier recently opened its own swanky boutique hotel near its training center in Orlando. As Kris Van Cleave reports, even the most loyal JetBlue customers won't be booking a room.
Just left the lodge a couple of days ago. It was awesome! JetBlue is a great company. They really take care of their employees.
XpLoiT671 are you a JetBlue employee? I just applied to be a flight attendant. Wish me luck.
Same
im going next month
Scale of 1-10 how would you rate it
Do you have to stay at the lodge while training for flight attendant?
JetBlue has some of the most comfortable and cheapest flights I've taken... The tv & WiFi take the cake!
Slow clap. They are cheap for flights. Have excellent service on the airplane. And they actually care about there employees. Excellent company!!
Infinity Boy true. Last year my family went this flight and they treated them and passenger like they were real customers.
WOW! That's awesome! JetBlue is one US Carrier that knows how to treat it's employees and they must-have copied Emirates,Etihad and Qatar how they take care of their employees and that helps morale and helps improve customer service as well. Some of these US Carriers need to take note.
it's= it is. its = possessive. its employees* namasté
Triple7Diehard4ever Emirates over works it’s employees
Triple7Diehard4ever it doesn’t mean it copied anyone. I could say that Emirates copies American airplanes
4:03 the lady with the white sweater seems pretty happy.
Good for them. Build employee loyalty, ease the stress of the career, reduce turnover, reduces training costs.
Congrats to Jerblue for this much needed initiative!
It would have been interesting to explain the poor accommodation situation of airline employees (crash pads and commuting) rather than spending half of the video sniveling because the facility isn't open to the general public.
I kinda feel most airlines should have their own facilities like these near major hubs. Yeah they could just have them rent hotel rooms but from watching other reports on how crew are treated where they need to chip in together for crashpads, it seems some sort of accommodation like this would go a long way.
AA has redone their lodge in DFW for employees . Its fully state of the art. UA is in the process of building there’s in IAH.
That is pretty cool more airlines need to do this
Respect to jet blue for thinking about the employee 👍🏽
Why is this video blowing up now? It is from 2015
This is an awesome strategy towards boosting employee morale... Best idea
Take care of your employees, and they will take care of you.
Delta: I am the best US airline
Jetblue: hold my experience
I love Jetblue so much..if they treat their employees this good imagine how they would treat us the passengers.. LoveJetblue...keep it up
wow never flew Jet Blue Before. Will Now
JetBlue is one of the best domestic airlines that I fly with. They have never disappointed me.
+mashed potato same, but it is the only airline I fly with
Wes Wesley v
Wes Wesley I always use jet blue to go from Florida to ny I don’t trust AA or spirit lol
still looks just like an office
Hospitality we have to be fantastic at it.thank u
The design looks quite corporate, it makes you feel you’re at the JetBlue HQ rather than a hotel where you’re supposed to relax.
Would be cool if JB eventually creates a program where exclusive JB customers can stay there only for a crazy deal! Would be super nice
Hooray! Wow! Awesome for them!
Companies like jetblue will stay alive due to their values and lack of greed. This has been shown with companies like in n out, chick fil a, etc
2:06 butterrr
Alberto Kanan Farca honestly was! It’s honestly kinda hard to butter an E195
Respect 🙌🏾
@CBS you could've delivered this in 2 minutes instead. The build up to the reveal, the elaborate narrative, repeat visuals - it's all seriously old school TV guys. Just why cable ain't popular anymore. Try keeping it more crisp like rest of RUclips.
They have time that needs to be filled. More time equates more commercial revenue. To make the video 2 minutes would be a financial disfavor to them. Why would you think you have more business savvy than a multi billion dollar network?
It's not a RUclips video it's a news piece from a major news network. The amount of money spent to do this piece alone doesn't justify a 2 min piece. I really don't get what your talking about but that's your opinion. I'm not gotta beat ya to death with mine.
I'll be there this month, I'm super excited
That's great and in long run going to save money for JetBlue in long term.
Thumbs Up for #JetBlueDiversity!!!!!
I don't think I have ever seen them go that long with out blaming Trump for something on that show it's a miracle praise the Lord !
Now this is a company that takes care of their own :)
Sure looks like it. Good for them
Tranformation investing in employees is the way of engagement and challenge , Congratulations CBS and JETBLUE
Visiting there today!!!
Happy employees, good services
Cool and nice idea
Can you please explain why many pilots are quitting and going to other major airlines?
can employees of the hotel stay at the hotel because they work for jetblue too
This just looks like a regular 3-4star hotel
For the record. Delta does have one in Atlanta at the training center but it's nothing to brag about. Crew members prefer the area hotels
Is this to all crew members or just the pilots and cabin crew
I'm sure it's for flight attendants too. They also have to endure extensive training.
It's for all crew members that work for jetBlue in any department 😊
It’s for EVERY CREW including aircraft technicians and engineers.
@@HighMaintenanceMinimalist Flight attendants are cabin crew.
Carlos P it’s for any jet blue employee who has to travel for their job so I doubt anyone who’s fixing aircraft will be staying here often
Cost savings disguised as employee appreciation. 6 weeks of hotels for pilot training costs $4200. Multiply that by dozens of pilots plus their regular employees, it actually makes sense to build your own dorm, I mean hotel.
dan McClaren it still helps the employees out regardless of if it saves them money plus the airlines get significant discounts on hotel rooms for their crews.
You could probably get in if your parents work in JetBlue and you tag along with.
I'm a new hire, about to head out to the Lodge. I'm excited, seems very nice.
Can you have someone visit and sleep there w you?
@@kervet6046 I do not believe so, no.
Wow this is great
Great idea
It's simple business, not to make their employees happier.
JetBlue claims it's "a communal space that would help further steep trainees in the company’s offbeat culture" and that they will actually be "losing $1 million a year" but I don't buy that...
A few points to consider:
-They say they currently spend $80 per guest per night at other hotels.
-Their hotel has 120 rooms.
-*The profit conversion for normal U.S. hotels averages 37.7% of total revenue. That accounts for 23% vacancies due to dips in travel/tourists.
JB doesn't have dips in tourists. JB has much lower property operation costs since they don't pay for (as many) room service personnel, customer acquisition costs, club management, online booking management, etc. which therefor increases their net profit. For discussion we'll increase it to 45% of total revenue*.
If you multiply $80 by 120 (rooms) by 365 (days) you get a whopping $3.5 Million per year revenue NOT spent on hotels = for normal hotels at 37.7% conversion that's $1.32M profit and for JB at 45% conversion that's $1.575M profit.
In 10 years that's $13.21M profit for normal hotels or $15.77 million PROFIT for JetBlue.

I am so exciting I'm traveling all the time with JetBlue
So can the employees stay there even when they visit MCO or is it just for the training?
Its just for training and recertification purposes, an employee cant just use it as their orlando hotel while on vacation.
So awesome
This hotel seems so basic, I’m genuinely confused why everyone is raving about it.
Eduardo Vargas it’s because it’s for employees only hotel that’s what makes it great!
chakur25 several months for training
Lol, the space where they said they designed it is literally a room with couches and a fridge, like wtf
@eduardo Vargas. Have at it with other airlines where they have to share a room at an actual hotel, with other random guests, and pay for outside food during their training. Not so convenient when you’re expected to train and study for 6 weeks. Jetblue gives daily allowance and then some for food at the cafeteria located on the premises and your own PRIVATE room. Employees only
Maybe this is a luxury dorm...? But this definitely isn’t a hotel that I would like to check in. HOWEVER, it does remind me of the Aventura hotel on the Universal Studios property. They seem to have the same simplistic hotel room design that focuses heavily on tech.
nice!
How nice.
Oooh! I'm so jealous 😊
This idea of employees not going home seems to be taking off amongst the bigger companies. Elon Musk was over heard saying "why do they need to go home"
AYYY They use X-Plane 11 in the simulators
now it can be said with surety Jet Blue is costing customers a "Mint"
I love Flying JetBlue
How much are these rooms for the employees?
Free. Well technically they are paid to be there.
Time for my company Lufthansa to do this
meals included ?
💙💙💙💙 cnt wait
Looks like a hospital 🏥
Kevin Calderon What wrong? You don’t like hospital? They save lives.
@@NoName-nf5xl hospitals dont save lives, doctors and nurses do.
True
@@megaman2127 They both save lives. An inanimate object can save a life. Without the hospital the doctors couldn't see as many patients per day they'd be going from house to house instead and people would die before they could be seen. Hospitals definitely save lives.
Winged Things there’s no hospitals in war zones, are we seriously debating this smh 🤦🏽♂️
I always fly JetBlue their # 1
They're *
luxury hotel thats right next to the highway? LMAO sure.
Haze doesn’t even look like a Luxury hotel. It looks brand lol. I would rate it a 3-4 star hotel at the max! Fact it looks like a office building with beds in rooms...
Have you seen where airline staff usually have to sleep? This is a true upgrade
Michelle A in a hotel?
puglover Really cheap budget motels. Usually a motel 6
@@James-rg1pp at least here they don't have to worry about their next room neighbor making meth in the bathroom
People are paying closer attention to who JetBlue is hiring for the hotel another businesses that they are in
very pretty for people visit be employ for the JETBLUE
Jetblue cancelled me and my family's flight and rebooked us for not next day, after next day and didn't give any incentive for this cancellation, while all other airlines were flying from Newark in August! No hurricane season, nothing at the weather. Gate agent's response was they don't have to tell exact reason, it is act of God! For two days, they didn't help with anything (I think I felt richer than an airline company during these two days) and they use the money they don't treat to their customers by building luxury hotels, I see! From this day forward, I strongly suggest all I know not to fly Jetblue, since in case of cancellation (they cancel a lot) you have to wait for next day or next day... As much as I am not a fan of big 4, I'll stick to fly with them, since time is money
Damn.
OMG I USE JETBLUE TERMINAL 5!!!!
IQ 1 - Being a normal boring airline
IQ 100,000,000,000,000 - HOW TO GET MORE STAFF
Make sure the it's n my name .I need a Industry of everything .keep buying n put it in my name
Should I become a JetBlue employee
Jet blue es bueno para viejar y hola a todo
The things that'll go on in there on off days!
I want resorts everywhere global .I want my employees to all the hotel out here has me on the list as owner n I stay free anytime I come in
I fly jet blue
time to get a job at jetblue
“A tech place”. What a way with words.
Yeah, ok, great, but can’t believe this was given 4.5 minutes of valuable TV time. Don’t see the big deal. They have probably dozens, maybe hundreds of employees in town every week. Just makes great business sense and the networking is great. And all the build up calling this a boutique hotel? Really? It looks fairly basic, sterile and functional to me. And no room service? Of course not. Guests are employees who are technically working while visiting the HQ. and since they’re not paying for the stay why would there be traditional services?
6 weeks pilot training ???? Wow.
Cross Ocean 6weeks but you must be a pilot and have no less the 1,500 hr of flight time and a ATP.
Now if they only added Boeing aircraft to their fleet.
At our expense
Make discount cards for them n dinner discounted .
Google eat your heart out
Meh, airlines and railway companies in Japan own hotels. Pretty common. Might as well earn more money off of the people using ur transportation services already.
An employee is NOT a customer 😑
I never watched CBS news, I don’t feel no energy,Gayl nop.
Sould invest more in autonomous pilots ,
Taking care of their employees before their customers...
I'm glad and disappointed at the same time?
Don't worry 😉, they are planning a longer this year on summer
Wtf only six weeks of pilot training?
Yes. It doesn’t take a year to learn how to fly a specific type of plane
KC Roeder this would be post license training- 6 weeks would be type training (Airbus in this case) and getting pilots used to the systems/procedures that airline use. To get an actual license takes much much longer

Flandersrobby, I don't disagree with what you said and have a respect for all cabin crew--and have praised then on many occasions. My Issue is with your increasingly super cramped flights for long distances , JB CEO is clearly interested in his investors solely and not his passengers as he cramps 15 (FIFTEEN) more seats into the A320, makes it a more miserable exp and then ,lies to us thru the PR folks who tell us they are offering a "choice "and that we will LUV all the new 'changes'. JB is saving a fortune on lower fuel prices so why are you fares going sky high. MY comment to all you pilots/flight crew who fly free most of the time is when is the last time you actually checked to see what charges your customers are paying for these rides ....they are subjected to very exp seats, ridiculous change fees for a one second computer stroke, baggage fees, food fees, etc. Look at how prices have skyrocketed for thinner cramped seats, and uncomfortable exp just to milk passengers for bucks . We want our pilots safe and rested but evidently the Company doesn't want its customers rested or treated better than cargo
Twelve more seats which is two more rows. The current layout is 150 passengers at 34 inches per row.
that's what happens when you fly on deregulated, non union airline. you get what you pay for, or rather, what you don't.
robb38111
Crew and employees don’t fly totally free. Still have to pay taxes, fuel charges, etc. Yes it is considerably cheaper than any full fare ticket but not entirely free. There are also limits on how many times you can fly and it has to be standby. Ever tried to get a standby seat on any large carrier? It is a more and more difficult to get a flight.
so what?
who else is tired of these stadia ads
Stadia sucks.
Elevator
Lol if they didn't want people to spend all their time in the hotel room don't put a TV in the room
You just KNOW that it's just going to be a sexathon in there....
awkward attempt at a joke by that dude....
Low key dumb because if they open it to employees and fill the rooms not being used with paying guest they would make more
They pay more housing employees off site during training periods. If they can operate The Lodge for less than the local accommodation on a per nightly basis it saves them money.
