Finally I found a channel that does explain everything perfectly and precisely. I am a beginner, like really beginner, I'm currently learning how to use the sewing machine. But I'm determined to make a dress by myself and I will
In case anyone is attempting to recreate this dress, April's tip about being aware of the width of your fabric is very important. Both of the fabrics she used here are in the range of 50-60" wide which is why she has so much fabric to work with. If you try this with a 45" wide fabric, you're going to need to buy more. So for example for that width of fabric she used 1 yd each, but in a shorter width she would need approx. 1.5 yd to yield the same amount of fabric. Hope this helps! (Source: have worked at the big green fabric and craft store I'm pretty sure she bought these from for 5+ years)
as someone who works currently at the big green fabric store thank you 🤭 u know someone is gonna come in with this video and expect us to make the width longer
I attempted to make this today as my first ever piece of clothing (I've made some bags and small things, but I'm definitely an amateur). I definitely recommend making sure the fabric is wide enough based on your size. It definitely came out like an amateur made it (and a bit undersized due to my fabric size, so it wasn't as wide and flowy), but the steps were super easy to follow along with. Saving this to try again with the new knowledge I've learned! :)
Im 14, when i was little i used to hand sew clothes for my dolls, and now i have a machine! Its good to find a nice begginer project that doesnt use a lot of fabric, because my parents dont give me a lot of money and fabric is kinda expensive for my wallet. Thanks a bunch!
I really appreciated this video I used to watch all of your old videos it felt like you changed a lot in your comfort of making clothes I think or maybe you were just dealing with other things but this was a great refresher and you definitely seemed happier than the last couple videos almost felt like you were back to the way you used to be
Love the blue one.....I drafted my own pattern just before I saw your u tube video ... mine had longer sleeves and I put bust darts in for better fit ...I love you tutorials... and this dress is great for adults...not necessarily a dress for pregnant people or children ...
@@DD-hf7vh I think they understood your use of the word. I'm also curious as to why you don't think this dress is NECESSARILY good for someone who is pregnant, because I was considering making it for myself as a maternity dress.
How cute! April: thank you for taking the time to step through the instructions. I know this is a lot more time for you to work on editing, but the details are very helpful especially for us beginners! PS> I see no "hospital vibe" on the blue one. Keep up the good work!
I'm glad to see this dress idea. I graduated from high school in 1967. We were wearing baby doll dresses then. Cutsie little flower prints. Just about as short as these, too.
I love this! I think I’ll try to make it as a maternity dress since none of my trousers fit comfortably anymore lol Nice to know it doesn’t need much fabric since most projects I’ve been looking at to make require at least another yard and I don’t want to spent too much $$ since I’m kinda broke and just saving for the baby lol.
You know so many of the zero waste patterns are boxy, frumpy and I think not very pretty but this one is fabulous! I don't know how I'd look as an older woman in a baby doll dress but I might give it a try!
I love your videos! I just got a mini sewing machine to hem a couple MAXI dresses that I had bought...and you give me new dress ideas! I am plus size though!
Also I think I would put side pockets since I’m a little too old for pockets on the outside like that. There’s so many variations thank you very much for this lovely video
Really nice and simple idea! Love that it is zero waiste! I still hold on to all my left over scraps because sometines I use some if it again but it is so much. This is just so good!
I feel like I'm learning a lot about how to make dresses from your tutorial, more than most of the tutorials I've watched so far and I've watched quite a few 😜
I’m gonna make this! As soon as I don’t have any medical appointments so it could be a while 😅😅 I have several sheets I’ve collected that I’m gonna use
I wouldn't have thought about the hospital gown at all but now that you mentioned it I can't unsee it, though that shape would be so much cuter imagine all the patients rocking their cute ruffle sleeves💃😂
I love it April, the first time I watch your video was the one you did your beautiful little niece of yours the beauty and the beast in or the princess gown. I'm gonna try make this one O doll dress. Tysm You Rock ❤️ and very talented.
the fact that this is zero-waste is amazing! and fashionable 😉
RUclips what are you doing here?!? Please bring back the dislike! 🤗☺️
How has this not blown up???
@@its_navami Ikr its really shocking because its been a year since they posted that comment and they only have 28 likes...

Hope you try it out!
You can do it! Once you get going it's a breeze!
Hey how did you go with trying to make a dress by yourself?!
I'm in the same boat! I've never really used a sewing machine but I really want to make this style dress with a bed sheet I don't need anymore!!
@@sarahweseen8209 that’s so cool!🤩
I generally watch these without any intent to make, but this time, I think I will! Love this :)
You can do it.
I'm gunna try to make it to! Even tho I'm kinda new to sewing

Thanks, that's very good information to have in mind before buying the fabric!
as someone who works currently at the big green fabric store thank you 🤭 u know someone is gonna come in with this video and expect us to make the width longer
Sorry, i am confuse because i am not good at patterns :(, so how much would be in centimeters? thank you
I measured out 60" but that was on the folded piece so instead of a dress I made a potato sack.
Thank u

This is the perfect dress that I've been looking for for my granddaughter. Thank you for the indepth tutorial.
You’re welcome :)
This is super cute, out can be worn as a maternity dress as well.
That’s what I was thinking. I’m currently pregnant so this would be perfect.
That's a great gift idea too!

Why would it not be good for children or pregnant ppl? I think it is great for any size or age
I said 'necessarily' ..please look this up in the 'english oxford dictionary' ..as it would appear that you do not know what it this word means!!

Three things I love! Cute dresses, zero waste and easy sewing projects!

Yes no hospital vibe at all. It’s previous
I do feel the beige one though lays better on you.
I've been following for years and April is the reason I got into thrifting and sewing.
Awwwwww 🥺❤️
Super cute. My girls will love this! My hubby is the tailor in our house so I'll be showing this video to him!!! Thanks, April!

Hi April. These babydoll dresses are really cute! .I love the tan, checked fabric. You do such beautiful work.
It’s so cute! You’re so good at sewing without a pattern and creating your own! So cool!
I’m seriously impressed with this. You look lovely. Thanks again.
This is the cutest zero waste design I've seen!
I love it! Such a clever use of material for the pockets. Thank you so much for sharing, you have great ideas and talent 😁♥️

That is brilliant. I will be making these for my granddaughters.
I loved hearing the sound of the scissors cutting through the fabric 1:17
SO PRECIOUS!!!! I LOVE babydoll style … great dress style… hides my hips …☺️. So want to try this for this fall!!!
It should be a staple in everyone’s closet 😍
So how do I determine how much fabric I need … I’m currently a size 16/18 but losing weight too…☺️🙏
Did you use cotton as the fabric? Also is that a preferred fabric for this kind of dress?
Dress, for kids, on up to a top for elders with a thick waistline. Great cool dress for summer in lightweight cotton.
I love that blue one the best!
Omg April you're amazing this will be perfect to make for my 13 year old x
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I’m a beginner. It helped me out a lot
You are so talented! How cool it would be to make your own clothes. These are adorable, too!
Love the new hairdo, grey looks great on you
You did an awesome job for a zero waste project! The end results are so cute 😍 can't wait to try it especially for little ones

I like the checkered dress with the looser gathering better really cute. These are also called skater dresses
Also I think I would put side pockets since I’m a little too old for pockets on the outside like that. There’s so many variations thank you very much for this lovely video
Thank you! I'm new to sewing clothes and this is very helpful. Dresses are my goal, especially dresses that are NOT jersey knit.
Really nice and simple idea! Love that it is zero waiste! I still hold on to all my left over scraps because sometines I use some if it again but it is so much. This is just so good!

Blue one is my favorite 🤩
It’s really cute. Didn’t give me Hospital vibes but maybe a little bit of an 80’s Strawberry Shortcake doll character dress.
