I brought this pattern but was feeling a little lost! I’m definitely a visual learner and your video help me to succeed in making this dress. Thanks so much for your work!
I appreciate this video SO MUCH. I've made this pattern four times now and am planning out my fifth, I watch this every time to make sure I'm doing everything correctly (and I really like your method of attaching the sleeves so much better). I could never have made this dress the first time without this video, it's invaluable to me!
Your kind words mean a lo to me! It’s awesome to hear that my video has been a useful guide for you as you make this pattern repeatedly! Let’s keep sewing those beautiful dresses out there and enjoy the process! 🤍
I am so excited about your process. Congratulations! It's so amazing that you've created many garments using your zero waste cutting and sewing of the fabrics. Actually, I made my very first garment-- a gathered waist skirt when I was 8 years old. Your process has given me the tools to make sewing better than ever. Thank you for sharing!
One word!💕❤️❤️. AMAZING! I love the the dress and your CLEAR, CONCISE, and HUMBLE spirit with your viewers. I a new subscribe and will be a life long fan.! 😍😊💕🥰
I recently learn about Birgitta Helmersson's designs and then this video came up in my feed 😍 It was so much fun to follow the process of you making this dress! I have been curious about making & designing zero waste clothing for a while but it has been a bit overwhelming how to do it & know where to start. However, I recently tried out making a zero waste refashion which really pushed myself creatively as I had to reuse everything in the garment.
I'm glad you've found my video helpful! I was fascinated by its design and also loved the concept behind it! (zero waste) I enjoyed every step of making this dress! Thanks for watching! 💕
What I love about your work is that you finish the seams on your garments. It really bothers me when people don't finish the seams on clothing. Good job 😊. Thinking of doing that dress. I would make the bodice smaller though because I don't like it being that big. I either sew with organza ribbon on the seam or a strip of fusible interfacing to give the out pocket more structure and prevent gaposis.
Your channel is amazing!! I have learnt so much from you. I have been following your sew along and made several items. Thank you and please don't stop making these videos ❤️
Thanks so much for your comment! Yes I couldn't agree more! Even for me the one from 58" fabric was huge so I had to adjust the width. But other than that, I really love how this dress eventually looks like and how comfy it is! 😊 Using less wider fabric (depends on your body circumference) might help! (You will need some experiments before finding the right size for you though!)
@@SewingTherapy true that! I will definitely try this again with some adjustments because i love the style of the dress and i wanna wear it 😄🙌 will also definitely watch the video along sewing again. Congrats again. Your channel name could not be more fitting
@@SewingTherapy Actually, I found a post on the pattern website that explained it. "I guess technically speaking you could say these don’t have a ‘purpose’ , but it actually depends on how you look at it. They are attached in such a way that you do end up covering a little of your side seam and it makes the garment look lovely and finished on the inside, and also it does add a little more weight here into the hem, as well a design detail with the triangular stitch line." 👍
new subscribed and can't wait to tackle this pattern. I'm a relatively new sewer and was wondering if there is a way to turn the pattern into a button down version like buttons all the way down the dress so you can wear it open as a long over shirt/coat. do you have any suggestions for me or even consider making a video tutorial?
Unfortunately there's no plan to do another sewalong with this pattern! 😅 you can simply attach bodice and skirts together first and attach the neck binding(placket) at the end.
Sara!! This video is so incredibly helpful! If I’m doing buttons all down the front, will I need to wait to do the neck binding until after I’ve attached the skirt?
I want to use French seams to be sure my linen doesn't fray. I'm having lots of trouble at the underarm's right angle even though I set in the sleeves using the method indicated by the pattern. Should I use a different seam finish along the tiny bodice side seam? Thank you for your instruction!
Hi I don't like French seams especially for the underarms as it makes that area bulky! I recommend you to serge the area as nobody can actually look! 😊
Hmmmm... I'm accustomed to curved seams, especially at necklines and sleeves, but this is definitely interesting. One thing I'm not understanding: what is the purpose of the facing near the hemline? I like the idea of no waste. Even when I cut my fabric closely there are always scraps.
I love the concept of this zero waste pattern so much and it's so easier to apply the pattern to any size of fabric remnants! There's no purpose for that facing other than reducing scraps. You can skip that part, of course! 😊
I make a jumper using a traditional Russian folk pattern., from 3 yards 45 inch fabric. Depending on the length I want there is very little waist. The leftover pieces becomes a matching hand bag and hair scrunchies..
Hi Sara. I was wondering how you finish your serge ends? I'm new to serving and have been trying to pull it back through. But do you use fray check or anything? I wish serging had a lock option 😂
Hi, most of serging stitches are locked by another sering stitch so you don't need to worry, but the hem! I usually just cut it short as the main stitch will lock it not to fray! If you like a professional look, leave the tail of serging stitches long and slip it into folded hem when you sew the last stitch. That's what I sometimes do! Hope this makes sense! 😊
Hello, I have watched this video like hundred times and decided to sew it at home. But I have an issue with the link that you shared in the description. I have tried from many device and I could not access the dimensions of the fabric(pdf) . It shows *404 error not found* can we find a way to reach the dimensions? Thank you💕💕💕💕

I don’t quite get the zero waste concept. That pattern looks like it uses a lot of fabric. So if you have to use more fabric, why is that better? Isn’t that wasteful? My grandmother would have though so.
We waste 15% of the fabric when we make a garment and the concept of Zero Waste garment is to reduce that ratio! You can apply this pattern to the smaller fabrics if it works for your size and preference. IMHO the pattern is genius!

Love the philosophy of zero waste. I have made this dress 3 times! It's the perfect house dress. Also, it would make a great maternity dress.
Totally agreed!

Sounds great!👍🥰
Sara, would be possible for you to show how to do the Japanese no tie apron? to measure and make our own pattern? Thanks.
Actually I have a Crossback Apron tutorial in my mind for Apron series! I might be using a free pattern, though! 😊
I have got this pattern but got in such a muddle with the zw coat that I haven’t attempted the dress. But you give me confidence to try. Thank you

I have a video about "how to serge without a serger" I'll leave a link down below. Hope it helps!

The original pattern features button plackets that extend all the way to the bottom.☺️
@@SewingTherapy thank you thank you! I didn't realize that. Can't wait to give this a shot and can't wait to follow along for more content from you :)
what is side seam 's aim?
Will you be doing a video on the button down variation of this sewing pattern? Just purchased it and super lost on how to construct it
Unfortunately there's no plan to do another sewalong with this pattern! 😅 you can simply attach bodice and skirts together first and attach the neck binding(placket) at the end.
What kind of fabric you usually use. Thanks.
It depends but I love sewing linen fabric the most!
Could you do de zw coat by Birgitta Helmersson as well?
Just letting you know itt's on my list! 😘

Exactly! 😊 Thanks for watching! And let me know if you have any other questions!
How long the fabric to provided this dress??
It depends on your preferred length!
I love your videos. Thank you so much! What is the music playing, please? I’m a musician as well as a sewist. 😀 🎶🎵
I used several music here, and the first one is Beginning by Megan Wofford! :)
Thanks for watching my video!
@@SewingTherapy thank you! You have good taste in music!
I give credit to my hubby! 😊
hello Sara, question: when doing the gathers for the sleeve this is done inside the seam allowance right?
Hi Julia
Yes that would be perfect if it's done onto the seam allowance. When it's not, you can easily unpick the basting stitches for gathers!
Can I please ask what the side seam placket is for? Is it just for looks or function? Thanks
Haha Yes it’s just for a look!
I want to use French seams to be sure my linen doesn't fray. I'm having lots of trouble at the underarm's right angle even though I set in the sleeves using the method indicated by the pattern. Should I use a different seam finish along the tiny bodice side seam? Thank you for your instruction!

Can I use chiffon fabric? It can replace a sweater under a coat over a dress.
I think it would make a great layer item!
I love it
Thank you!
Sooo cuteee ❤
Thank you a lot 😊 but dress pattren link is not working.
thanks for letting me know! fixed!
I'm all for zero waste, but wondered why you serge the seam allowances (creating waste) instead of a simple zigzag finish (no waste).
I didn’t want to waste my serger! 😆
Love
When you show the fabric with the two front bodice pieces, the back and the two skirt? pieces, where are the sleeves please?
Beside the front pieces!

Hair scrunchies are great scrap buster project! 🙂
I love this video ❤️❤️
How many yards of fabric to make this dress?
Please check the pattern! It will tell you the fabric requirements! 😊
Whats the point of the side seam facing? is it just to use up fabric?
I think so! You can skip the part!

Dear Sara, measurements for dress 57"x102" is it for whole fabric (1 dress)?
Yes it is. There's almost no waste as it's a Zero Waste garment pattern.

How is this zero waste? You used an excessive amount of fabric for your size imo
You can use any size of rectangular piece even though the pattern suggest that much for the oversized look.
