Lawrence. It's ok to speak up about domestic violence. I knew Cocopa would do this. I just knew it. She's too clingy and jealous of your hacking skills on other computers. Just say no. #MeToo
Entrepreneur News - You live up to your name. You bring the issues the people need to discuss, to the forefront. We also need to mention the fact that Cocopas were distributed world-wide. This is a global domestic violence issue.
It wasn't a hospital, it was an urgent care center. And the only reason it doesn't happen in other countries is because they're kept poor due to paying other people's medical bills through taxes.
As far as the fired GW2 writers story goes, it's pretty clear cut: she presents herself in her twitter as a GW2 writer, she was tweeting about her work, and she made it about gender issues when there was never anything about gender in Deroir's tweet, and used it to insult him. It wasn't something that happened while she was commenting on her family vacation photos, ffs. Seeing the tweets either in context or out of context, you see that she was highly disrespectful towards a community member (streamer or not), and it was absolutely unnecessary. Props to ANet's CEO for not only taking action against it, as well as debunking the shit reasons she is giving in her interviews about the firing in a post. She wants to be a dick, she's gonna be treated as a dick.
sPiN I don't know if this is relevant, but she also tweeted saying "the kindest thing I can say is 'I'm glad he's no longer around to keep doing harm.'" in relation to TotalBiscuit's passing.
We don't know though, she could have already been on thin ice because of what she said about John Bains death or something completely unrelated. I would be the last person to defend such behavior, but in my opinion they could just have her apologized. Maybe she refused to do so and got fired because of that. It could be the beginning of something good were people who want to work in certain fields have to stop being assholes or it could be something really bad where people get fired for looking not right n a profile picture.
FREEDOM OF SPEECH. It comes with consequences or no consequences at all. According to many edgelords. So it's time for them to DEFEND the shit out of this women. Hasn't happen yet.
Dear Lawrence, I hope you read this, because I feel the need to comment on the Jessica Price situation. I have done a bit of digging, and I feel the one thing you missed in your assessment was her response to Deroir when he attempted to clarify that he didn't mean any harm. Rather than backing off, she escalated the situation, playing the victim card and throwing hard political stance into the mix, accusing Deroir of 'mansplaining' and taking that angle to win the fight. Furthermore, she has previously been fired from another company (Paizo Inc.) for falsely accusing and harassing a competitor for other things, as well as once tweeting that she was glad that TotalBiscuit was dead. Given this information, and knowing a more complete story about it, we can only come to one conclusion: Cocopa needs her own show. When is she going to get her own show, Lawrence? When?
As a former Guild Wars 2 player and having quit relatively recently.(having a little over 11,000 hours played) Still keeping in contact with a lot of my former gw2 friends, i can tell you that no one in the gw2 community actually gives a hoot. The narrative that games media is pushing is rather disgusting. I'm fairly surprised that Kotaku of all outlets is taking prices side. In my mind and the minds of all of my fellow Guild Wars 2 players, she got what she deserved.
Every time FH talks about a serious social subject I hope they did their research and info sharing between each other right, took their time etc. Every time they skim the subject so are afraid to voice strong opinions cruising the middle ground. It's fine, but disappointing in a way.
Unknown Person Not even close. John was one of those reviewers who was always honest. If it was a shit game he would call it out. Devs hated him because he would not give good reviews for cash.
unknown person , I'm not sure why Price is glad but my best guess is his alleged involvement with gamergate. Basically he was critical of gaming journalism...and people saw it as him providing cover to harassment of a handful of women like zoe quinn or anita. he may have defended it as a movement meant to call out shitty ethics in gaming journalism while the gaming press(a handful of websites like kotaku, polygon etc..) made it about hating women and harassment. Take this with a grain of salt as I don't remember all the gory details. Ultimately what ended up happening of course is if you supported gamergate you hated women and it had nothing to do with the state of gaming journalism according to "them" the journalists. Convenient of course for the shitty journalists involved. Or he gave a bad review for one of her games maybe...?
The tip-toeing around the subject was painful to watch. No genuine feelings expressed, no interesting comments, just bland social commentary on the firing of a couple of stupid employees. They didn't deserve any sympathy, their conduct was childish and their excuses idiotic
Considering she danced over the grave of Total Biscuit when he died I'm going to go on a limb and say she is not a great person. It also appears that she is not very stable either considering just how explosive her rant was. What pisses me off the most is shit holes like polygon and kotaku are "patting her in the hear" saying just how big a victim she is.
Drewid you comment on every comment about Total Biscuit when in reality your a pretty shit person for saying it's good that a person has died of cancer
Jessica Price most likely had heat/backlash in the company already, considering she mocked Total biscuits death, so i fully believe she was a problem within the company and her firing is not only deserved, but not surprising. She went overboard on a friendly person who was guilty of only engaging in positive conversation. Not only that, she had to bring up "mansplaining" which is a cancerous concept in a dangerous ideology that no gaming company should want to have in its online/real life presence.
I don't know why everyone is so shocked that a gamedev got fired for tweeting after we have hundreds of cases of super popular people losing their jobs over dumb tweets.
The TB comment alone would be reason for her to be fired imo. Kudos to ArenaNet for tolerating her as much as they did. Shows that they are willing to give people the benefit of the doubt.
Pepi Popa people are shocked Price got fired 'cause she is a leftist SJW. The people that lose their jobs over dumb tweets are normally either men or not-leftist-enough women. SJWs and Leftists are supposed to be able to say whatever the fuck they want with no repercussion whatsoever.
Don't forget when she complained that Infinity War was racist and sexist for killing off POC and female characters and how it was a "poor allegory to the Holocaust". I'm surprised she lasted this long honestly.
you should have pointed out that she tweeted that shes glad that totalbiscuit died of cancer a day after his widow announced his passing, she is a very toxic asshat and should have been fired a few months ago already, her twitter history is and was full of very shitty stuff and most of it has already been deleted because of many backlashes she produced for being like this, i fully support arenanet here, she probably raised many more red flags in that company but we might never know how bad she really was, her online persona was tho, bad image for the company, rightous reason for getting fired
he was an asshole, he said so himself, the "cynical" part went bitter a lot of times, especially in the end and is the reason i stopped watching his stuff, but that doesnt mean its okay to celebrate someones death and mock his family like that, especially if you are a "Professional Game Developer" and represent a company... i dont think the world is better without him, even if i disliked what he became, his work was very helpful for the whole industry, especially journalism, but more so for the consumers... sad he got too much into all that stuff and gamergate, but he was one of the more reasonable voices there and the reason she hated him... still no reason to be such a cunt tho
Bringing up the sexism card really cheapens it for people who are victims of actual sexism, this was not, just an all round shit head who should not have a job in this industry unless she makes serious changes
She made his comment a matter of sexism, she played the victim card and used it to be hostile and that is not okay. There was nothing relating to sexism in his remarks and her targeting him is immature. Then, when the community rallied against her false remarks, she continued to be hostile and play the sexism card, when it had nothing to do with it. Using sexism, a serious issue, to justify your mistakes is plain wrong. She then refused to accept her mistakes in all of this and blamed the community and her boss for it. Her boss fired her for her being disrespectful to the community, not because he was siding with the community. She made posts about her being betrayed, when the only betrayal that happened was her own doing. She betrayed the trust of the company, the community, and everyone she hurt in the process. She deserved to lose her job.
The way I see it - Having 'Arenanet Narrative Designer' on your twitter profile is your online company uniform. Say... If I was working at mcdonalds and off the clock addressed a crowd of thousands of customers in my uniform and talked down to them in the most spiteful way I could manage infront of my boss? Well, I wouldn't expect to keep my job either.
I actually thought Deroir's criticism was overly polite, which is ironic. From all tweets that could have warranted that reaction, his deserved the least. I wonder if it was actually his politeness that was interpreted by Jessica as condescension.
well, there are several theories to that. He actually really thinks highly of Jessica, since he said it himself in a stream prior to the debacle. Plus, this guy is a very respected member of the GW community, which has an NPC merchant in the game named after him. Now, a guy with a caliber like that and has a deep relationship with ArenaNet would probably speak in the way he is portrayed in the community, avoiding any possible profanities or any action that could jeopardize his career. Some awareness that Mrs. Price apparently lacks.
The first thing to remember about employment is that even on your own time you still represent the face of the company to those who follow and observe you. Yes she has a right to an opinion on player base entitlement but she doesnt have a right as a company dev to snap and use language, however minor, to communicate her displeasure at the situation. Everyone needs to remember that discretion is the better part of valor and that thinking about what you say first is always a better option or sometimes not saying anything at all if you cant make it constructive or palatable by your employers standards.
"Butterfly Effect Man" is my favorite movie. Also, I want to say thank you for engaging in open dialogue as men and women in the gaming industry and approaching a lot of your topics in an engaging and unbiased way, while simultaneously giving people who watch your content regularly a somewhat comprehensive behind the scene break down of how you feel from both personal and professional standpoints, while encouraging us to do our own research. keeping these podcasts and movie reviews equally funny and engaging is sometimes a challenge, but that combined with the production value makes for great content.
Jessica Price is wrong. She chose to make her twitter posts public and open for response. Deroir respectfully gave his opinion in this open forum and she attacked him. She quote tweeted her response so it was directed at him. He has a history of showing respect and complimenting her work as a game dev. Actually calls her a God of AMA's because her answers are always so thorough and informative. She made it a gender issue and proceeded to slam him and escalate the situation. There was no mention of gender in any of Deroir's tweets. Should she have been fired for it? Not my decision. Could she have ignored him or at most said "that's your opinion", then moved on? Yes.
I don't comment often, but I fucking LOVE Lawrence. Its very rare that you see what he does at 11:30 ish on RUclips or even professional interviews. Such a professional lump of depression.
you gotta realize that if you had your life on a spotlight many people would call you a shithead for something you've done as well. I'd like to see ho much of a "saint" you'd be lol
sparrowhawke yeah, I personally don't enjoy his content, but he made a MASSIVELY positive impact on gaming. TB doesn't deserve people speaking like that about his death.
i love these kinds of "story time" podcasts !!! Its refreshing to hear stories about your lives instead of hearing the more news type stuff :D. I have listened to the "our worst podcast like 20 times just because its so different than the usual podcast you do. I do not watch all your guys' podcasts so if someone knows more "storytime" dude soups, could you pls tell me
Jessica Price's twitter bio mentions that she is a dev and doesn't say anything about being a personal account. She also used it to talk about her ama further connecting it to her job and not her personal life. Her twitter account was for her job, and she didn't seem to be fully aware of that.
Pretty much. I have an old acquaintance whose ex-girlfriend used that term a lot and acted just like Price. No one liked her. Even my friend didn't really like her that much, but put up with it because he was tired of being lonely.
I get what Lawrence is saying but I think he might be projecting a bit this wasn't her taking her stress out on someone If she was responding to a rude or sexist comment I would be on her side and I understand that kind of thing is something women face in this industry but her claiming that was the reason when it clearly wasn't cheapens the struggle of women who actually went through something like that all he offered was his opinion in a very kind way this guy in the past constantly praised her as a great writer during his streams and wasn't even disagreeing with her he agreed that writing characters in an MMO are difficult he just felt it was for a different reason.
this is honestly just a day in the life for Lawrence. On a side note, what happened to the comment videos? Id love to see a return, they're all hilarious
Adam calling out Elyses salt at Lawrence is why I think they're all still down too earth and friends. keeping eachother grounded and honest with eachother and no one taking sides. Could point out hundreds of each of them digging eachother but it never escalates and thats good to see to me :)
It's actually really funny hearing you guys talk about my home state. "It was 10:30 at night and the sun was beating down on us..." Yep. It's July. This is one of many natural defenses against tourists.
Couple things to consider about the Jessica Price fiasco that makes it A LOT MORE one sided against her: 1. For reference, in the past on her twitter she basically said she was glad Totalbiscuit had passed away. 2. On Kotaku and Polygon she went on to try to say Deroir and ArenaNet were sexist and she was really trying to play that card. To me, calling someone sexist is slander. That's fire-able. Also to me, knowing how she's behaved in the past and how being glad someone is dead TRULY says something about someones character, I believe she deserved to be fired quite a while ago. Oh did I mention she's trying to tell people she's gotten calls from recruiters telling her they aren't recruiting for ArenaNet anymore?
jamesgriffyn I think this comment is insensitive as Lawrence could have been seriously hurt or even killed. I wouldn't use this as a platform to boast that I reached level 50 in Battlefront 2. BEEEE-ATCH-ESSSSSSSSSSS!
Just got an actual phone that isn't normally available at an end cap in a Kroger, so I can use this sponsor link to download Marvel Puzzle Quest for the first time!
Great Podcast folks. Would recommend for the Funhaus team, or anyone watching, that if you're curious about your legal rights as an employee or employer you definitely do the research. State, federal (or provincial) employment and labour law vary slightly, but all follow a fairly similar path. As a sidenote to the gang: there is no such thing as "fireable". There is only termination for cause, or termination without cause. Keep in mind you can terminate employment for many, many reasons, it will just cost you (without cause). Termination for cause is much more complex, and generally require perpetual actions, or a pattern of actions, that fall within a number of (very spelled-out) criteria, such as dishonesty, violence in the workplace, willful negligence, etc. And no before people yell, I didn't Wiki this, I've been working in a senior HR capacity in large organizations for many years. I simply want to promote the importance of people knowing their rights in the workplace.
I really respect how Funhaus handles controversial articles reminding the audience to take everything with a grain of salt and not attack anyone involved. It’s nice to see creators understanding their influence.
Even if not originated by Dude Soup, I like the term, "Netiquette". This is a concept and skill that should have been taught the day after Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf (hey that is who the internet says) invented the internet. If nothing else, everyone should get the concept that contrary to that aged expression "Sticks and stones can break my bones (Lawrence remember this), but words can never hurt me." Not only can words hurt you, virtually they exist FOREVER on said internet.
1:14:10 - With the Jessica Price situation, there's likely build up. Odds are she was under the company's radar after her disgusting comment celebrating TotalBiscuit's death. Her co-worker defending her I'm a little more confused about. I'm guessing there's a ton more behind the curtain stuff that we've never seen (as opposed to Price who let all her dirt out in the open)
I was cringing all through Lawrence's story lmao. Really glad the injuries weren't worse. I've heard too many horror stories in first responder training and nursing school of folks ending up with permanent damage from doing a whole lost less. Glad you're okay my dude!!
Let me guess, Lawrence was up on that roof preparing for the sickest Google Trends Show entrance in the history of anime.

he is now in a better place surrounded by all his waifus
This is so sad alexa play country roads
I CAN'T BELIEVE LAWRENCE DIED!
#MeToo is much funnier when you remember that "#" is pound
I dont even care if you read that or not im just glad i will now forever read it like that.
"The roof is not my son but I will raise it."
Last memoir of Lawrence
The most American answer possible to "Is your hospital open?";
"What kind of insurance do you have?"
Its pretty damn sad
Yeah it's fucking disgusting.
That's the first thing your asked whether it's a Chiropractor, Dentist, Eye Doctor or any other health related thing.
Jesus, what a fucking system.
It wasn't a hospital, it was an urgent care center. And the only reason it doesn't happen in other countries is because they're kept poor due to paying other people's medical bills through taxes.
"rando asshat" - A dude who is apparently such a well known community member of the game, that he has his own NPC.

@Castitalus: He replied to Polygon's questions iirc.

James during Lawrence's roof story is the best thing in this podcast.
So... did Lawrence really fall off a roof or did he get punched in the eye for drunkenly trying to pick up Asian chicks at Anime Expo?
Matt punched him
I think both.He tried to kiss Asian girls and they push him off a roof. The only logical thing
yes.
now we are asking the real questions
That body pillow had a mean right hook
Dear Lawrence, I hope you read this, because I feel the need to comment on the Jessica Price situation.
I have done a bit of digging, and I feel the one thing you missed in your assessment was her response to Deroir when he attempted to clarify that he didn't mean any harm. Rather than backing off, she escalated the situation, playing the victim card and throwing hard political stance into the mix, accusing Deroir of 'mansplaining' and taking that angle to win the fight.

It’s kotaku price could have murdered 10 babies on live tv and they would try and spin it to be a man’s fault.
All these gaming outlets take sides, this nothing new.
Kotaku, Polygon and RP Shotgun is like CNN, MSNBC and Huffington Post.
Jessica Price also tweeted she was glad john bain(totalbiscuit) was dead. She's not exactly a great person.
Yeah, would really like to see Funhaus support TB. It's heartbreaking seeing Genna have to deal with this on top of mourning.

you gotta realize that if you had your life on a spotlight many people would call you a shithead for something you've done as well. I'd like to see ho much of a "saint" you'd be lol
Jessica Price deserved to get fired.. You guys forgot to mention that she tweeted about being happy that Totalbiscuit had died
Go woke Go broke
Agreed. I'm surprised it took this long for her to get fired. Hated her ever since she celebrated Totalbiscuit's death on Twitter.
sparrowhawke yeah, I personally don't enjoy his content, but he made a MASSIVELY positive impact on gaming.
TB doesn't deserve people speaking like that about his death.
Why was she happy about him dying? Only heard of him once he passed.
Kenny Keller she didn’t appreciate him reviewing games and then not liking it
Hope that poor *Roof* is ok :(
Glad Lawrence didn t die, but it was likely thle universe punishing him for wearing a romper.
Loving the new relaxed format of you guys just freeballing and not strictly debating hot topics

This one has weird topics. I like it.
God, I want to have James and Adam stream Marvel Puzzle Quest!
Jessica Price's twitter bio mentions that she is a dev and doesn't say anything about being a personal account. She also used it to talk about her ama further connecting it to her job and not her personal life. Her twitter account was for her job, and she didn't seem to be fully aware of that.
Oh boy the team brought the heat for this one, I was crying laughing from the start jeez!
Saying the word "manfeels" has got to be one of the fastest ways to make people want to avoid you.
Forgotten agreed I pretty much tuned out after he read that part lol
Pretty much. I have an old acquaintance whose ex-girlfriend used that term a lot and acted just like Price. No one liked her. Even my friend didn't really like her that much, but put up with it because he was tired of being lonely.
I get what Lawrence is saying but I think he might be projecting a bit this wasn't her taking her stress out on someone
If she was responding to a rude or sexist comment I would be on her side and I understand that kind of thing is something women face in this industry but her claiming that was the reason when it clearly wasn't cheapens the struggle of women who actually went through something like that all he offered was his opinion in a very kind way this guy in the past constantly praised her as a great writer during his streams and wasn't even disagreeing with her he agreed that writing characters in an MMO are difficult he just felt it was for a different reason.
Do you have any evidence that she had multiple warnings? Because all I have heard is speculation that she likely had been previously warned.
Technicasualty you're I was getting her mixed up with David Crooks the Bioware Employee who went on a rant after TB's death
this is honestly just a day in the life for Lawrence.
Finally got that Marvel Puzzle Quest money...congrats James
I really love these guys
Lawrence story made me physically and mentally exhausted lol
Since he is alright I'm just imagining Lawrence falling off that roof yelling his famous funny yelps
I just wanna say this is the best background video in history of this podcast
It's actually really funny hearing you guys talk about my home state. "It was 10:30 at night and the sun was beating down on us..." Yep. It's July. This is one of many natural defenses against tourists.
You can tell James is actually super stoked about the MPQ sponsorship. Lol
They finally did it guys! They got sponsored by Marvel Puzzle Quest!
EVERYONE TWEET AT ADAM!!! HE NEEDS OUR LOVE!!!
Literally nothing makes me happier than hearing the gang talk about their shitting and showering habits. I laughed so hard.
Huge shout-IN to Lawrence for mentioning Offspring!
Couple things to consider about the Jessica Price fiasco that makes it A LOT MORE one sided against her:
So much has happened to Funhaus in one week. What a channel.
I got Thanos in puzzle quest!! Hell yeah, thanks mr larry.
jamesgriffyn
I think this comment is insensitive as Lawrence could have been seriously hurt or even killed.
I wouldn't use this as a platform to boast that I reached level 50 in Battlefront 2.
BEEEE-ATCH-ESSSSSSSSSSS!
Team Australia, pew pew
Lawrence is the best story teller ever
How's it possible that I immediately laugh from a mere thumbnail and a title?
Oh, Lawrence.
I recommend you bring the whole family and friends, sit down and order a meal...just to listen to this podcast
Im so glad you guys came to Juneau. You are always welcome back
So Bruce and Peake finally tied the knot? I'm so happy for them
For those wondering the hentai Lawrence is talking about is called Energy Kyouka!! Episode1
Well done, Not all heros wear capes.
I have been playing MPQ while watching this. Love the game play every day.
Just got an actual phone that isn't normally available at an end cap in a Kroger, so I can use this sponsor link to download Marvel Puzzle Quest for the first time!
Oh hey, another podcast talking about Jessica Price getting fired and *not* mentioning her dancing on Totalbiscuit's grave.
Started watching this while eating some burritos. Boy, it got tough around the 4 minute mark.
I'm glad The Quintessential Gamer is okay.
Marvel Puzzle Quest?? Someone made some bank from that ad, hustle my boys and girls good on ya.
Super stoned adam hanging out with super stoned james is a pretty great show all on it's own
James unironically calling himself "the architect of the comedy" is the most James thing ever.
lawrence must have been trying to reenact workaholics
I like the longer banter during this DS
Funhaus has been talking about Marvel Puzzle Quest for a long time, now that they finally got sponsored, I'm going to try it out with the link !
The rewards didn't work for me let me. Is anyone else habing this issue?
That la Colombia coffee is so good
Price was being a toxic bully while identifying as an employee of the company. Being terminated was a logical response
James, consistently breaking down the 4th wall
The Cremation of Sam McGee is a classic! My dad read it to me as a kid but I'm from the Midwest
Omg! Yay! Congrats Matt Peake, I'm so happy for you.
James shoes give me flashbacks to the old high school wrestling days.
I’m so glad Lawrence is ok, i thought he got injured from falling off his motorcycle. Stay safe bro lol 😂
I like how Dude Soup started out as an hour long, but now it's creeping up on 2 consistently lol
"I am the puppet master, I just want a credit" Sounds like James is Jack Kirby and Josh is Stan Lee
"For the other three women watching..." xD
Elyse is great xD
anybody else think that meme in the background at 18:10 was a bit funnier because you couldn't see the rest of it lol??
Everybody's talking about Lawrence falling and here I am stoked they're sponsored by Marvel Puzzle Quest lol.
Video title: "Lawrence fell off a roof!"
Video content: "Let's talk about our taints!"
Sir LAW is actually a bad ass because he ACTUALLY got into a sick bar fight with 3 bikers and all he got was a minor scrap below his eye.
These are much better than the Sugar Pine ones no question.
Lawrence has a new place in my heart, now.
james was extra funny this podcast
I was cringing all through Lawrence's story lmao. Really glad the injuries weren't worse. I've heard too many horror stories in first responder training and nursing school of folks ending up with permanent damage from doing a whole lost less. Glad you're okay my dude!!
07:40 "What if it was the dad?" I lost it...
Im glad you're safe would have been tragic for funhaus to lose its best member 😏
I really liked this podcast 👌🏼
July 4th is hurting season. I went down on my motorcycle that day hahaha
I think Lawrence is the only guy to ever get a shiner by falling from a roof
