If actors aren't drawing audiences anymore, they don't deserve big paychecks. Maybe that would bring the budgets down.
Lee Majors looked like a tough guy. Ryan Gosling does not.
Exactly! This movie was gay AF!
what? but ..but some memers said that Ryan was "literally them" and they could not even save the movie lol
Do you think it basically comes down to something as simple as, "Eh, it looks decent, but I'll just wait until it comes out on streaming" vs paying $15 a ticket plus concessions?
I seem to remember that there was a movie quite awhile back where the premise of it was that a director was deliberately trying to get a stuntman killed. Can't remember the name of it. Update. Found it. "The Stuntman" with Steve Railsback and Pete O'Toole.
I think the problem was that is was put out as a remake. I think people have gotten tired of "a reboot kicking a face forever."
Well, my local movie theater closed up a couple of years ago. First time I live in a town without a movie theater. So it has to be a really big movie for me to go out of town and spend $45 to see a movie when I could just wait a couple of months and watch it for free.
This. Haven’t gone back to the theaters since 2019 and I see zero reason to go back. I don’t miss the crowds. I don’t miss the prices. I do however love having seemingly endless content to watch at home.
Movies are available at home in a matter of weeks now. I loved going to the movies as a kid but there were better movies then. Last one I saw in the theatre was Logan. I can wait for streaming or whatever. Not even going to see Deadpool vs Wolverine.
1) big budget, the downfall of all modern movies
2) minimal marketing. Nobody seemed to hear about this movie until it released.
3) nobody cares. There is zero draw for people to go see this movie.
I thought this was to draw the "literally us" memers? guess they couldn't even save this flick lol
The budgets are hurting the movies. The fall guy has made 100 million so far worldwide. . If it didnt cost 130 million there would be no worries
There are no worries.
It just missed its arbitrary expectations. It will make plenty of money. If not box office, streaming.
I was asking someone the other day (don't yell at me) would they be willing to take a pay cut to make a great film? Instead of $1million, can you take $30,000? "I'd lose my mansion and cars!" Okay...
Agree.. 130 million is an insane budget and we need to realize this
Plus promotion and publicity cost like 60 million alone!
Yra, you're wrong @@TimMurphy41
Have no interest in it. Enjoyed the series back in the 80's, however, Hollywood needs courage and originality. Resurrecting old tv shows is not courageous or original.
It really didn't have any tie to the tv show other than a post credit cameo.
My wife has a "Movie Purse". It's oversized and we cram bottled drinks and snacks in it when we go to the theater.
Everyone I know that saw this movie liked it. The film was ok, but the marketing was pretty bad, they advertised it as a stupid action movie (Fast & Furios?) while it was a more down to earth almost a rom com type of movie.
My friend put it like this, "the trailer promised fun but the film gave you feelings instead".
Yeah the trailers didn't give a good idea of what the film even was, not just tone but even the story. I was almost surprised by the story simply because I thought it was something else by what the trailer showed.
Every John Wick film is honoring stunt people.
Certainly isn't honoring writers or good scripts.
@@denroy3
Keanu, cars, motorcycles, knives, and guns!?
Who needs writers or scripts?!
Fall guy is billed as an action-comedy, and although there is plenty good action, it doesn't deliver at all in the comedy side. It was lighthearted and amusing in places but just not funny. I couldn't hate this film but I could easily forget it. Its attempts to be meta were weak, I get the impression that people in the industry find this film funnier than the general public.
Charismatic Hollywood tough guys currently available??? Hollywood could use a good dose of Burt Reynolds, Steve McQueen, Bruce Willis. Not strictly action hero so much but the cool funny dude.
what? but they keep saying that Ryan Gosling is "literally us" and couldn't even support the movie lol
None of them were actual "tough guys" though.
Speaking as a gigantic fan of the original series, there was nothing - absolutely nothing - about the trailer that said “The Fall Guy” to me. I didn’t see the movie, and I never will. Hollywood is not ruining another classic favorite for me. If Seavers isn’t an established bounty hunter, it isn’t The Fall Guy. It’s that simple. The original series was far more about the bounties than his stunt work - the character’s “real job” as a stunt man just made what he was willing to do to catch the bad guys more believable because he did even crazier shit for a living. I also think the film was horribly cast. Ryan Gosling, as popular as he is with some, is not - and never will be - The Six Million Dollar Man. Emily Blunt, on her best day, is no Heather Thomas. And where’s Doug Barr? If there is a Howie character in the film, it sure wasn’t evident in the trailers; and Howie was absolutely imperative to the team dynamic and comedic flow of the original series. It was a hard pass for me from the beginning.
You're right, why go to a theater when the movie hits steaming 2-4 weeks after launch?
I haven't even seen any advertising for this movie...
They always expect these type of movies to perform despite the lack of advertising. The industry has it wrong. It's not the big franchises that need the bigger marketing budgets. It's the new films that need them because people aren't aware of what they are. I think at this point everybody knows about Planet of The Apes or John Wick. They don't know anything about The Fall Guy, especially if they're under 50 years old.
Well that's just you. I've seen an annoying trailer that played Journey's "Any Way You Want It" on TV countless times.
The economy stinks, that's why it flopped. It doesn't have anything to do with the movie. Also my TV is the 72 inches and everyone can afford it. So the economy and home theaters are to blame. Not the film.
Uhhh, it's the movie. If you have no interest, it's definitely the movie.
The reason “everyone can afford a home theater” is because the economy doesn’t “stink.” Unemployment is still at historic lows. The stock market has continued to go up steadily and is currently at historic highs. Look at China, Japan, Europe and Canada for quick comparisons. The US economy is the envy of the world right now. Your complaints about a bad US economy don’t line up with the facts.
Nobody can afford $50-60 to take their family to the movies anymore when it'll be on streaming in three months if that. The last time I went to a movie theater was to see *Steel Magnolias* for that Fathom reissue.
@@jim9685769stop gaslighting and stop ignoring the reality on the ground. Gas is overpriced, food is overpriced, rent is overpriced, and the US dollar is worth less than toilet paper.
Maybe it failed because the lead is a terrible excuse for a real man and all the scripts are written by committee?
They might as well get 1000 monkeys.
I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up yet or not? But, maybe the film should have leaned more into what the television series was about.
I remember watching "The Fall Guy" back in the day and if memory serves me correctly, the show's main character Colt Sever was a bounty hunter in his spare time. So when he wasn't performing stunts, Colt was hunting down dangerous criminals.
From what I gather from the trailer, he is sort of placed in the position of a bounty hunter by having to locate a missing actor, but it's not the same as actively going after dangerous criminals.
That sounds like a better premise
It seems to just be a setup to him becoming a bounty hunter in the future, like an origin story but not exactly that.
Because people don't go to movie theaters anymore. What's so hard to understand about that?
The apes movie made 60 million this weekend. That's good.
@@tomh1593how much of that 60 mil you getting?
@@christiandunbar532 Someone points out that people don't go to movie theatres anymore. Someone else replies that some movie did well, to counter that statement... and you come in with some completely irrelevant response that has nothing to do with the topic and doesn't make sense... Bravo.
The Apes movie is fantastic ! Great story ! I loved it
@@tomh1593 Now there’s a movie I likely won’t be seeing in theaters or at home.
I'm online a ton and never saw any ads for this movie. My wife would probably enjoy it and she doesn't know it exists. Like this guest tho, invite him back.
Respect my guy had no issue picking up the slack when he was put on the spot…..
I legitimately read that as “FULL GAY FAIL”
I actually think Barbie harmed Fall Guy with the bait and switch last time, Barbie sold itself as a fun movie and turned out the way it did. I think Hollywood has made audiences much more cautious and with money being tight, makes it easy to skip a $40 trip to the theater.
This is payback for all the propaganda related to that crappy movie. He stole an Oscar that should have gone to Keegan-Michael Key as the voice of Toad. Or rather somebody stole it on his behalf.
This movie failed because it was a very niche-limited, personal project made by a writer-director-stuntman, disguised as a romantic comedy. In reality, the target audience for this film was the two or three people in the world whose favorite movie when they were growing up was "Hooper" and whose favorite TV show was "The Fall Guy".
People back then had the same issue with Bruce Willis, when he was known mostly for the 80s tv-series Moonlighting.
I wouldn't write Ryan completely off as action star. He might grow into it.
Cinema is truly dead 💀 I guess.
O promise me
That someday
You and I...
@@Attmay😂💯
i believe that people has many options and the bar is too high with the availabality of streaming, people wants to watch quality stories, the godfather type, or 2005 pride and prejudice, to watch an average story they got netflix, and by the way we need to watch more beautyful people like in the 80's
We saw it today. We both loved it. It was a great date night movie. I never saw any promos for it. I only knew to look for it was from FNT.
Ryan Gosling wanted to combine his talents in comedy, romance and action. That's why the movie is vague.
Fall guy? I call it Ball guy 😆🤣
I saw Fall Guy over the weekend and it was okay. Honestly, I never cared for the original series, so there was no sense of nostalgia for me. The one scene with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt airing their relationship conflicts on set via megaphone was pretty hilarious but that was the only memorable scene for me.
Like MI: Dead Reckoning I enjoyed it. Sadly it seems it's not for most people. Too bad.
Because it is nothing like the TV show it is based on. Why not just make a movie with no tv tie-in?
I immediately thought of the TV show, which I’d rather liked in its original run. I was 20 when that began. I usually don’t like movies based on TV shows, which if they’re good usually aren’t good in the same way the shows were. Usually they’re not good.
I didn't even know there was a TV Show. Thanks.
It was released way too soon after Barbie
Another reason to question all the pro-Barfbie propaganda and gaslighting if the male lead's follow-up film is a failure, too. How anybody could believe that this bleach-blond wimp is any match for Lee Majors is beyond me.
And if Emily Blunt is in it, then they managed to link two of the worst movies of all time if she was in a sequel to the movie that enabled Julie Andrews to have a film career and kill movie musicals in the process. Movies are dead, musicals or otherwise. *Barfbie* was the act of murder itself. This is their funeral. Too bad Julie can't sing "O Promise Me" anymore like she did at the end of that movie where she exposed herself. Seth MacFarlane will have to do it for her.
What is he talking about? I don’t understand what he was even trying to say here. “There’s bait…. Word word mumble”. What?
Went and saw this film a couple of days ago. I actually thought the movie was better than it was going to be. I haven’t seen one bad review of this film thus far. lol
The movie is too complex and makes no sense,it is trying to be everything but the fall guy.
It’s a chick flick.
The only point I agree with you on is the budget. The budget needed to be leaner even though it was an awesome film. That said the other guy’s epic hair is only matched by Alan’s big d energy. :p
When I want to watch The Fall Guy I go online & watch The Fall Guy. Not a cheap knock off. Gosling is cool. But Lee Majors he ain't. Hard pass.
Bad marketing. Not an event movie. Will blow up HUGE on streaming. It’s a chick flick dressed up as an action movie but it is a great date night movie. Maybe they should asked Ryan Reynolds how to market this puppy as he is the master. It’s a romantic adventure but NOT in a jungle like Romancing the Stone or The Lost City. Needed to be more quirky like Bullet Train. Ryan Gosling is a romantic lead and it’s not his brand. Ken does action ? Hmmm. Great movie ! Good story. It’s funny and lots of action. Strongly recommend it as it’s FUN
Sorry that the Fall Guy failed.
I am not. I will break open a bottle of champagne if Margot Robbie's next movie is a failure.
Mike nails it, this is a "wait for streaming" movie. And that's a big problem for stunt performers, because you _can't_ do big stunts on the cheap - the rule for that are written in blood. It might just be volumes and AI from here.
That is why exactly I moved my ass to the cinema
It's another "by name only" movie that has nothing to do with the original. That's why we not watched it. With another name ok. But i do not support such reboots without any respect for the original🤷♂️
Curiously, I've listened to yall discuss this movie twice and i still have no clue what it's about. By the way, Gosling is a woke weinie.
That's why I don't appreciate heterosexual Canadians lecturing gay Americans about the way we do things here.
Hello guys. Film lover from Melbourne over here. There is nothing I love more than watching a film at the cinema, being immersed only in the story on the screen. So in that sense, I am biased, however. I went to see this movie yesterday because I heard a review that prompted my curiosity, My mum and I go to the movies often, a mixed bag. The title really did not grab me, I think that was a bit of a fail, because it does not make sense until you watch the movie. I did not see any ads for this movie here at all, so it was that we were going to the movies already and generally we make a last minute choice. Saying all that - we both loved it. The stunts were amazing and I loved that it showed the behind of what it takes to make a movie. The message that stunt people are not outwardly appreciated, maybe because then the stars will look like weaklings (sorry) - for me was very much at the front and centre of this film. It was fun, it was a romantic comedy and a soft action movie. I think like you said, a perfect date movie, where I think both parties would be satisfied. I get Ryan Gosling is not thought of as an action hero, but maybe this story needed to have a soft character for the love story to work. You could have used Keanu because he plays both types of roles but you could not have say some one like Charles Bronson, because the association would not work. And I agree it is primarily a 'chick flick' so you need to cater to the female audience. Sorry this is way too long. I hope people through word of mouth will go see the film at the cinema. The stunts, especially the one on the garbage truck and on in the bay need to be seen on the big screen. A great fun afternoon.
What's a Melbourne?
Never liked the original series, and never even heard of this movie until after it failed.
Cause film is pretty much dead and they made everyone hate them
The apes movie made 60 million this weekend.
Because it had no substance and was horribad. One villain had a Diet Coke addiction, for 💩's sake.
This was an awesome movie, sad to see it fail
Didn't fail. Made $100m opening weekend. They were taking about arbitrary expectations.
"The Fail Guy".
He cried twice over a girl. Nobody wants to see that.
Guest seems to be suggesting it's a good movie cuz it promotes stunt men; that is not film criticism.
I am proud of American actors and directors and am tired of seeing foreign actors and directors taking jobs away from American artists. Last year's movie about an American icon was
Barbie, whose two main leads were Australian and Canadian.
This year's potential box office hit movie May be Deadpool and Wolverine, whose two main leads are again Australian and Canadian.
Hollywood needs to make American movies with American actors and directors. If not, it's a hard pass for me and I will watch it for free on the high seas.
That's just it bruh almost all american actors' star have fizzled out lol
I think it would have been a more interesting movie if they swapped Emily Blunt's and Ryan Gosling's roles. She is better known for action than he is.
Definitely agreed about Emily Blunt and the perfect dynamic of this came in Edge of Tomorrow. But I'm not going to see another Ryan Gosling cuck to Hollywood women film where he smirks like a little boy showing the classes bug collection for 2 hours and then industry critics call it good acting.
Emily Blunt is an automatic pass for me.
Harsh 😮
I'd rather smoke a "blunt" then pay to see a "Blunt".
Why's that? She's pretty and personable and claims to reject scripts that start with "Strong, confident woman".
@@rogerborg she is a beneficiary of privilege if she can have John Krasinski and I can't.
Drive, The Place Beyond the Pines, Bladerunner 2049? Your recency bias is showing Alan.
I'm Gen X and this is just another 80s rip off.......come up with new ideas instead of ruining the legacy of the original. Stop trying to squeeze every last penny of every 80s idea. Makes me sick.
A shite reimagining of an 80’s TV show has no draw. Gosling is a talented actor but his draw is La La Land and Ken.
Then he is drawing blanks.
I am A list and I really use it. Don’t know if I will keep it going for too long but it seems like it pays for itself and it gets me pumped to see more than just the big releases. I’ve gone to movies so much more in 2024 than I did the last few years because I joined that.
If feels as if all those woke sjw people decided to boycott this movie, because it is about a white guy that gets the white girl in the end
So how come you "literally us" memers didn't support the movie?
@@arvinjay336 I WENT TO SEE THE MOVIE. What are you talking about?
11:44 Henry Cavil?? lol No. He's less of a movie star than Gosling is lol. Hell The Fall Guy is a flop but it's going to make more $$ than both of Henry's last 2 movies combined lol.
My wife, 16 year old son and I loved it. It was fun, the stunts were cool
I didn't know that "The Fall Guy", was a TV show a long time ago.
I thought it was a fun movie. We took 3 generations of family and we all had a good time
Comments are missing the mark completely. Didn't "fail." Just didn't meet *_arbitrary_* expectations.
Yeah they're so arbitrary, those expectations of creating an roi that will keep people in their jobs. These main line Hollywood films in the summer need to be making at least 3:1 after expenses.
Breaking even is an entirely objective measure.
@@destinypirate As they said, they were discussing "expectations," not "break even."
@@rogerborg Agreed.
@@TimMurphy41 and as I noted, success is not breaking even, that capital and time needs to be working, the actual goal is 5:1
Emily Blunt is a good actress, but in this movie she was pretty naggy and mean against a guy that broke his back and didnt call. Its understandable that the girlfriends feels abandoned or left out for 1,5 years and is pissed at him for that, BUT me as a viewer got tired of her nagging and being mean at him when it dragged on for more than an hour. Made me feel like the girl thought that her broken heart was more important than his broken back and mind, therefore almost unlikeable.
Also, she bragged about sleeping with tons of guys after he didnt call when he was injured, just to get back at him IN PUBLIC, which came over as petty and mean. Also makes it less appealing to get her back cuz she devalues herself imho.
Ryan Gosling is just hard to watch. Pure cringe.
You're wrong. Gosling is a legend because he is LITERALLY ME...!
😢Stunt people getting replaced by AI. Not a reason for me to go to see a movie. 2 hours of stunts. Who f’ing cares? I want to be entertained. Not served up a movie worshipping them that runs too long. Where’s the meat? This is a movie of bland sides that ran too long. 2 hours of salad and potatoes. Where’s the beef?
The beef is there when Mario's mother makes spaghetti and meatballs.
Well I mean if you don’t like action comedies go watch it it will entertain you
If not don’t that simple you don’t have to go on a rant about stuntmen
